Meta Diplomacy - Third commentary thread
The second thread fell off the board. As Linda Richman would say...

Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic. The Meta Diplomacy game is neither Meta nor Diplomacy. Discuss.

But then how can it be "Meta Diplomacy"?
trip (696 D(B))
02 Jun 09 UTC
giving something a name doesn't mean you've described it.

its not meta becuase there is no cross game alliances, and its not diplomacy because the players aren't corresponding with each other.

@centurian - now would be the time for germany to strike at france, if he's inclined to do so.

Aw, shucks, just when I posted a huge EoG statement...that I didn't save...

I have read the EoG, nice ,hope i will remember all the important moments, Hope I will remember to move :))

i read it too, great statement thanks frelock.
Centurian (3257 D)

Lets keep the statements for the actual end game. That said, sorry I missed it.

yeah, it was a good window to your in-game thoughts. thanks frelock.
djbent (2572 D(S))
02 Jun 09 UTC
however, Centurian is right, EOG statements are generally reserved for the *end* of the game - not for when an individual player is knocked off.

Bump. The forums are moving quite fast today.

alright, new moves in
djbent (2572 D(S))
03 Jun 09 UTC
the F/G alliance seems solid as a rock (cue the music) at this point. but we may be looking at three way. still, i think G and F maybe be able to pul it off to knock down T.G should be able to hold on to vie and take ukr, but it's a toss up b/c depending on the specific moves crucial positions at alb, vie, or tri could be lost. the state of things makes me think that turkey missed the change to keep make a stalemate, but i suppose it's possible.smart move by italy tus - very good defensive move.
Centurian (3257 D)
03 Jun 09 UTC
The problem with actually eliminating Turkey is towards the end of the game it becomes inpractical to do the 17-17 and someone usually has an opportunity to stab. Especially if there is no communication.

If the intention is to draw the game, then draw with Turkey.
djbent (2572 D(S))
03 Jun 09 UTC
fair enough. if the intention is to draw with turkey, enough with the foolishness (it's not about silly points is it?) and draw now with italy too. he's put up a good fight and deserves it. even if he was a buffoon to attack AH in the first place =P (jk...kinda)
Centurian (3257 D)
03 Jun 09 UTC
Nah, you should probably just kill Italy
djbent (2572 D(S))
03 Jun 09 UTC
but why? for two points?
djbent (2572 D(S))
03 Jun 09 UTC
and, in fact, G and F can kill T while allowing italy to grow, and he can be the third wheel to the draw.but perhaps better to call it a day, especially since we have like 2, maybe 3 commentators now!
Centurian (3257 D)
03 Jun 09 UTC
Well defeating him will improve your ghost-rating for one, because he is highly ranked. But I think that the less people that are involved in the draw the better, and thus no one should be in a draw who doesn't have to be. I got really frustrated after being forced into a five way today with some smaller powers. But its up to everyone else. But it only takes one player to agree with me to put a hold on the draw.
djbent (2572 D(S))
03 Jun 09 UTC
but see how italy plays a crucial role - if F moves against him, he risks letting T take ion, and going for the break-away, and maybe (likely?) getting G to join him. nobody joined this game for G-rating, and i hope not for points, but rather to try out an experiment. it's gone well, and for G/F/T right now, winning, with a draw, is looking pretty good. no reason to keep italy out of it, except for out of spite or some other poorly looked upon reason. let the man be, i say. end of game = F/G/T/I draw (which is not what i predicted, btw). suggestions otherwise are coming from the "i'm a mean-spirited bitch" school of dip ;D

Bump.

03 Jun 09 UTC
if italy was in a position where he was critical to defending a stalemate line then i'd agree with you that taking him out would be a bad call. i see nothing wrong with the major players taking out a lesser nation before drawing.

...and after what italy did to aut, i don't think you can use spite or mean-spiritedness to defend him.

Sorry , just to express I made a mistake , second after not moving one turn :(

I will not tell, but anyone can see. I did not want that I just hurried to enter move and scroll not enough.

So always double check your orders or you can lose a game :))
Centurian (3257 D)
03 Jun 09 UTC
Just on the draw thing, If eliminating excess players is just out of spite then good natured players should just go for 7 way draws all the time. In a draw you become more of winner by how many losers there are.
Centurian (3257 D)
03 Jun 09 UTC
Oh and you should abandon Ukraine Turkey
trim101 (363 D)
03 Jun 09 UTC
dont worry mave iv made a couple of misorders in the last couple of turns
djbent (2572 D(S))
03 Jun 09 UTC
difference of opinion, both with valid reasons i'd say. since playing the game is the point, good natured players don't go for 7 way draws. ;)

if the game has reached the point where it's about to be stalemated/drawn, and i'm in the mix as a larger power, my general sentiment is to include that person in the draw. to me it doesn't make a difference really. that would not be case, obviously, if that player was on the wrong side of a two or three power alliance.

clearly other people have a different approach. and that's a beautiful thing ;)

Non Fiction Adventure books
Anyone have any good suggestions? Two of my favorites are 'In the Heart of the Sea' by Nathianiel Philbrick and a book about Shackleton (unfortunately there are many of them and I can't remember which I read). I like reading about explorers and any book where people end up eating each other ;)

If English Channel -> Brest does this brake the support of Brests to (Paris-> Gascony)
