When the Games are turned back on... What then????
Will all of my games be due in the middle of the night or something? Will i go cd if i am not here when it happens? Will there be a (at least) 12 hour lull to give us time to get our orders in?

Almost everyone seems to be online
Are they waiting for orders to be processed or is it part of the bug?

Everyone Note - The ADMIN has turned off processing
Perhaps my other thread was confusing.

Kestas, the owner of this site, has turned off the processing of all games while he looks into a problem. There is no need to keep opening new threads mentioning your game is messed up, or that your game is not processing.

You can post questions here.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Oh, wait, you meant questions related to the processing of games. Never mind....
mksmoke (260 D)

Since processing is turned off, will people be able to submit moves even if it is past the due time?
mb (549 D)
07 Jan 09 UTC
Yes it seems this is possible. At least I can still un-finalize. I don't dare to actually press it.

But if that is indeed possible, it should be disabled. Would be pretty unfair otherwise.
Centurian (3257 D)

Well the Gamemaster has saved me from missing my moves in one of my games. Hurray!. But now they practically all my games are on due now so I keep checking back desperately looking to see what happened.
Draugnar (0 DX)
07 Jan 09 UTC
When you does resume processing, does this mean that all current games with the same spacing will run on the same day and time (until they get out of sync for whatever reason)? Or will Kestas stagger processing on resumption to spread the load across a variety of times?
Draugnar (0 DX)
07 Jan 09 UTC
Oops, when HE does...
flashman (2274 D(G))

Kestas usually adds in extra time after an enforced interruption, so those due games might suddenly turn up with 24 more hours to go...
Draugnar (0 DX)
07 Jan 09 UTC
I was more thinking about the load on the server... My orders are all in on my games, just waiting for them to run.
stratagos (3269 D(S))
07 Jan 09 UTC
flashman, this isn't really an interruption; I would assume he'd let things run...
Akroma (967 D)
07 Jan 09 UTC
but if it stops processing, and I haven't entered my moves yet, am I not screwed ?
DonXavier (1341 D)
07 Jan 09 UTC
I believe this is in fact an interruption... what do you think the definition of interruption is...?

break: an act of delaying or interrupting the continuity; "it was presented without commercial breaks"; "there was a gap in his account"

some abrupt occurrence that interrupts an ongoing activity; "the telephone is an annoying interruption"; "there was a break in the action when a player was hurt"

pause: a time interval during which there is a temporary cessation of something
Akroma (967 D)
07 Jan 09 UTC
oh hey, I just tried, and I could enter my orders just fine
finalizing and unfinalizing worked good as well

all that is fucked up is the display of who is online, as far as I can tell
Dexter.Morgan (135 D)

Centurian:
"Well the Gamemaster has saved me from missing my moves in one of my games."
---
Well, if I remember correctly, after someone hacked of all of our point totals to 99999 - when Kestas reset the server everyone was crying that we should act as if nothing had happened (entering the same moves). Well, in that spirit I suggest that you should undo all of your moves in that game... after all, if the server hadn't crashed you would have missed your turn... therefore you should voluntarily miss your turn in the spirit of recreating what "should have" happened. It's only fair. Your (non)orders are your (non)orders. It is crooked to change them now. No one should take advantage of the server problems... it subverts the whole spirit of Diplomacy. /snark

My first game on this site. I realise the forum itself is a topic of some debate. I don't have too much of a problem with it except that there doesn't appear to be any obvious forum for the Devs to update the community about downtime etc. The FAQ also seems a bit half-assed ;D I already know how to play diplomacy so the quick breexe through the rules isn't a problem, but there is very little information available as to how the site is actually run. I'm looking forward to getting started in my first game (despite the fact that one of the players hasn't logged in since it became full - ah well: They are Germany, I am France :~)) but would like to know when that might be etc. etc. anyway - keep up the good work

This would be easier if Kestas (or whoever) could post a notice at the top of the page informing about what was going on. Took me hours to figure it out--I don't generally go to the forum.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
07 Jan 09 UTC
Obviously I'm not Kestas, so I can't answer definitively, but I'll do my best to help...
Interruption: previous interruptions have stopped people accessing the site at all, rather than this which is just the gamemaster being turned off. Thus I would suggest everyone input their orders as normal - I don't know how it will be resumed.

Dexter.Morgan - I'm not sure, but I didn't think it was Kestas who said play on as before, I think that was a community view. Anyway, its down to your games how you do it.

Doug - Wow, that's a slamming report! The main issue with this problem is that it has come completely unexpectedly. The problem started on Monday and has grown since then. It was believed to have been solved and then resurfaced. Kestas found out about this because he checked in before work (that's dedication!) and so to keep problems to a minimum the gamemaster was stopped. We had a very minor case of this issue quite some time ago, but it stopped before it could be diagnosed. This is the first time it has really been an issue so how long it will take to solve is rather unkown.
Still, that's a good point about the site-top notice

I don't make a habit of bumping threads, but as there is no official notice atm, I'm posting here to keep it up.

Kestas usually does put a notice when he's turned the gamemaster off. I'm surprised he didn't this time. He must be busy with his own life.

Yes, the pausing was only a last minute thing before he went off to work this morning.

Man I was sooo pissed, all my games are fast pace so I check in twice a day and they all kept saying due now due now but none were going to the next round. I dont normally go to the forum but someone suggest that topic was being discussed.

Anywho, could it possibly be that someone tried hacking again and accidently created the problem?

Daniel-san, being banned (yay!) has left a reasonable sized nation in this game, is anyone interested? We have the game on pause atm, that plus the downed GameMaster means you should have some time to communicate before the next turn starts.

Just ignore Diplomat1824’s posts, for crying out loud!
For the last month or so I’ve watched with amazement as this forum has been hijacked by Diplomat1824. Somehow this immature brat has managed to incense otherwise reasonable users of this site and his mind-numbingly obnoxious posts continue to draw the attention of a surprisingly large number of intelligent people who - no offense - really should know better.

Do unfinalized orders get processed when the time limit expires?
Because I had assumed they don't and made some questionable decisions based on little red Xs appearing next to countries with minutes left to go.

Now I'm thinking that they do get processed. The FAQ is silent on the matter.

Mods - please ban the player ...
that requested for GameMaster to be banned. I think he pissed him off! I can't find the thread anymore (wonder why ... GameMaster ...?) but I'm pretty sure it was one of the usual troublemakers - Dingle, figgle, alamothe, aoe3, friendly, someone like that. Perhaps you should ban them all and maybe GameMaster will come back to play ...
