When the Games are turned back on... What then????
Will all of my games be due in the middle of the night or something? Will i go cd if i am not here when it happens? Will there be a (at least) 12 hour lull to give us time to get our orders in?
Kestas, the owner of this site, has turned off the processing of all games while he looks into a problem. There is no need to keep opening new threads mentioning your game is messed up, or that your game is not processing.
Well the Gamemaster has saved me from missing my moves in one of my games. Hurray!. But now they practically all my games are on due now so I keep checking back desperately looking to see what happened.
When you does resume processing, does this mean that all current games with the same spacing will run on the same day and time (until they get out of sync for whatever reason)? Or will Kestas stagger processing on resumption to spread the load across a variety of times?
I believe this is in fact an interruption... what do you think the definition of interruption is...?
break: an act of delaying or interrupting the continuity; "it was presented without commercial breaks"; "there was a gap in his account"
some abrupt occurrence that interrupts an ongoing activity; "the telephone is an annoying interruption"; "there was a break in the action when a player was hurt"
pause: a time interval during which there is a temporary cessation of something
Centurian: "Well the Gamemaster has saved me from missing my moves in one of my games." --- Well, if I remember correctly, after someone hacked of all of our point totals to 99999 - when Kestas reset the server everyone was crying that we should act as if nothing had happened (entering the same moves). Well, in that spirit I suggest that you should undo all of your moves in that game... after all, if the server hadn't crashed you would have missed your turn... therefore you should voluntarily miss your turn in the spirit of recreating what "should have" happened. It's only fair. Your (non)orders are your (non)orders. It is crooked to change them now. No one should take advantage of the server problems... it subverts the whole spirit of Diplomacy. /snark
My first game on this site. I realise the forum itself is a topic of some debate. I don't have too much of a problem with it except that there doesn't appear to be any obvious forum for the Devs to update the community about downtime etc. The FAQ also seems a bit half-assed ;D I already know how to play diplomacy so the quick breexe through the rules isn't a problem, but there is very little information available as to how the site is actually run. I'm looking forward to getting started in my first game (despite the fact that one of the players hasn't logged in since it became full - ah well: They are Germany, I am France :~)) but would like to know when that might be etc. etc. anyway - keep up the good work
This would be easier if Kestas (or whoever) could post a notice at the top of the page informing about what was going on. Took me hours to figure it out--I don't generally go to the forum.
Obviously I'm not Kestas, so I can't answer definitively, but I'll do my best to help... Interruption: previous interruptions have stopped people accessing the site at all, rather than this which is just the gamemaster being turned off. Thus I would suggest everyone input their orders as normal - I don't know how it will be resumed.
Dexter.Morgan - I'm not sure, but I didn't think it was Kestas who said play on as before, I think that was a community view. Anyway, its down to your games how you do it.
Doug - Wow, that's a slamming report! The main issue with this problem is that it has come completely unexpectedly. The problem started on Monday and has grown since then. It was believed to have been solved and then resurfaced. Kestas found out about this because he checked in before work (that's dedication!) and so to keep problems to a minimum the gamemaster was stopped. We had a very minor case of this issue quite some time ago, but it stopped before it could be diagnosed. This is the first time it has really been an issue so how long it will take to solve is rather unkown. Still, that's a good point about the site-top notice
Yes keep bumping, its VERY anoying that at a time when we all want to be informed about whats going on, poeple's biased opinions on Gaza or wish lists for new year keep appearing at the top of the forum PLEASE!!
Man I was sooo pissed, all my games are fast pace so I check in twice a day and they all kept saying due now due now but none were going to the next round. I dont normally go to the forum but someone suggest that topic was being discussed.
Anywho, could it possibly be that someone tried hacking again and accidently created the problem?
lol why do you guys bump this? this is just useless spam worse even then diplofools posts, seriously... and you guys talking about " enhancing the site" when all you do is make topics like these... pathetic
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7422 Daniel-san, being banned (yay!) has left a reasonable sized nation in this game, is anyone interested? We have the game on pause atm, that plus the downed GameMaster means you should have some time to communicate before the next turn starts.

"Looks like there are a lot of problems to be sorted out and this wasnt just a one off thing, when I get back in ~10 hours Ill figure out what's going on
Until then Ive disabled the gamemaster so games wont move forward until I've sorted this all out"
My games notably, http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7722&msgCountry=Global, are not concluding. One of them have been in the ´due now´ phase for around ten hours. What is going on? Thank you for replying.
Just ignore Diplomat1824’s posts, for crying out loud!
For the last month or so I’ve watched with amazement as this forum has been hijacked by Diplomat1824. Somehow this immature brat has managed to incense otherwise reasonable users of this site and his mind-numbingly obnoxious posts continue to draw the attention of a surprisingly large number of intelligent people who - no offense - really should know better.
i got into the website before a few hours and saw that half of my games are ending "dew now". Now i got into the website again and it still says that they are ending "dew now". is that my problem or the website's problem?
I havent been on the site in a while and I dont remember a whole lot, is there anyway to PM someone through the site? or do you have to publicly or in a game ask for an email?
Can moderators unpause this game or get rid of where is chick?
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7642 This game has been paused since before it began because whereischick was banned. Can we start it or just remove whereischick so that we can get the game going? Cheers Dr. J
In this game I am Italy and he is Austria, and this is the dialog that took place between us (on the first message). This is totally not only disgusting, but unprofessional and should not be allowed. Will a moderator please look into this? Thanks. http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7797
that requested for GameMaster to be banned. I think he pissed him off! I can't find the thread anymore (wonder why ... GameMaster ...?) but I'm pretty sure it was one of the usual troublemakers - Dingle, figgle, alamothe, aoe3, friendly, someone like that. Perhaps you should ban them all and maybe GameMaster will come back to play ...
The New Years' Ghost-rating list is ready. The PPSC formula has been changed, to make it much more accurate. In particular the fallacy of expected result>18/34 has been resolved. And..... We now have a new number 1!
