To Americans
Learn from this mistake. When given a chance to elect someone like Bernie again, do it. Don't go for the person that's a part of the establishment. It could've been Bernie getting ready for his victory speech now. You threw that chance away when you LET the establishment decide Bernie wouldn't win. Learn from this mistake so that you don't make it again. Better luck next time.

Polarization Self-Assessment Thread
Politics has changed A LOT in the past ten years ago. In this thread, I'd like to encourage you all to think about your past political views and how greatly you've polarized over time. What issues do you care about today vs then? Why? Any original ideas or do you rely on the media for cues? Interested to hear some real self-assessment here! :)

Live Game Discussion
Why is it that all (or most rather) live games are gunboat these days? I miss playing a fast game where people actually communicate and work together like how most of the games on here are played. Any idea why? D:

Democratic Elector refuses to back Clinton
A Democratic Elector in the Electoral College refuses to vote for Clinton. This means that Clinton now needs 271 electoral votes to win!

Obviously this is huge news because it means that Clinton now needs an extra electoral vote to win the White House.

There is historical precedent for electors not voting for the candidate that wins the popular vote.

Discuss!

of course Hitllery can ask to have the elector replaced as it is before the election.
ND (879 D)

Well it isn't good news if Hitlerly can really ask the elector to be replaced.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)

how do you think the electors are chosen? the candidates put forth a slate to choose from for the states.

Do you really expect anyone to take you seriously when you are calling her Hitlery?
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
05 Nov 16 UTC
since it is before the election there can be changes
ND (879 D)
05 Nov 16 UTC
sure, but i thought that was locked in now.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
05 Nov 16 UTC
I don't think there is much seriousness in this election by anybody.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
05 Nov 16 UTC
and if you think that what i call her is out of line look up what McClellan called Lincoln who was at the time his commander in chief and later the Democrat candidate. Boy we could use Lincoln to spank the Democrats now!
ND (879 D)
05 Nov 16 UTC
Anyway, if this guy stays on the elector slate then Clinton loses an electoral vote. That is good news for America.

ND, you complain about how rigged you think the elections are and loudly support the electoral college as a process when it comes up, but you jump for joy at the thought that someone explicitly appointed to reflect the will of the people would choose not to reflect the will of the people?
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
05 Nov 16 UTC
Electors do not reflect the will of the people. they reflect the will of the states
CAPT Brad (40 DX)

states are free to choose electors in any manner they choose. the legislature could choose them and have in the past

This article is uninteresting. This thread is just more political filler. We have enough political threads. Muted.
ND (879 D)
05 Nov 16 UTC
Ghug, the electors reflect the will of the states, but they still have their own private conscious. I can't imagine the horror those poor people will have to endure if they are forced to cast an electoral vote to someone under FBI criminal investigation.

Hopefully more of them say they can't do it. It's sad, but no one should have to cast an electoral vote for someone under FBI criminal investigation.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
05 Nov 16 UTC
Actually, the only process of binding electors comes from state law from the state they come from. and no one has ever been charges much less prosecuted from not voting for the candidate that chose them. There is no Federal requirement for the elector to choose the candidate they are pledged to

What is the point of the "Electoral College"?

Why not just count the number of votes for Trump, and the number of votes for Clinton, as voted for by the voters themselves, and whoever has the most votes.... is the winner?

Viable Strategies for Austria
Whenever I play Austria I feel like I'm strategically forced to attack Turkey. I think that if Turkey isn't killed in the early game, he is basically forced based to go through Austria if he wants to reach the rest of the world. I know that this can't be the case, but I don't see the other strategies.
I would love to learn of some other options for Austria so I don't do the same thing every time I get it.
