The Great Filter
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Filter

In short the great filter theory suggests that we have not encountered intelligent life yet because there is a "great filter" that prevents planetary life from reaching advanced intelligence necessary for galactic expansion.

Is a single mod or admkn over 30?
Is the site management ageist? Do they really represent the membership of the site.

Who said they'd be representative? You don't need to be representative to enforce the site rules.

I don't care if we represent the membership as long as we do our job correctly. Multi life time is down, and we're catching them faster then ever. Not sure what else you want.

Someone over 40. And no, not me.

Why? What benefit would we gain that you feel we're lacking now?

I bet we could get a discount on the server if one of the mods had an AARP membership.

Oh, and btw, Draug, the answer is yes.

So yo admit the site management is ageist... Good to know.

The answer to your title question, Draug. Multiple mods are over 30.

The benefit is older is wiser.

Good to know, abge. I thought most were in their late 20s.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))

My guesses on staff ages:

zultar: ~30
jmo: ~25
Eden: ~20
2WL: ~25
damian: ~20
bo: ~16 (pretty sure about this one)

Draug, the average age of the mods has steadily been increasing since this website was created. The mods are getting older, not younger.

@Chaqa, you forgot TMOW.

Except 18 year old Bo just brought it down, guaranteed. I know CF was 30 or 31. But she retired as did abge.

The entire original mod team was 18, you twat!
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
25 Jul 14 UTC
Since when did average age remotely matter anyway? Mods are good based on how well they moderate games, and to a lesser extent the forums. Not whether they grew up listening to The Beatles, Abba, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Spice Girls or Coldplay.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
25 Jul 14 UTC
Oh yeah, TMOW. He's probably like 30.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Jul 14 UTC
@abge - That doesn't change the fact that the team just took a set back with an immature braggart who has been living a silver spoon life and is about to start college.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
25 Jul 14 UTC
So, because you dislike bo_sox, nobody under 30 should be a mod? Okay.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
25 Jul 14 UTC
People in college tend to have more time on their hands than those out of college. More time equals more time spent on cases and cases being resolved earlier. Age doesn't seem to be a problem to me.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Jul 14 UTC
@Hellenic - Thanks for twisting but I said no such thing. I said we should have at least one mod over 40. The mod clique is ageist.

@Tom - If college students have so much time, they aren't doing college right. I don't want a lawyer or physician who spent his time.modding a site instead of studying law or biology.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
25 Jul 14 UTC
@Draug: shouldn't who becomes a mod not be based on age but merit?

From personal experience I can tell you I was a better mod (I use to be a mod over at vdip) when I was 16 then when I was 19, as one of the main factors in determining how good a mod is is how much effort he is willing to put into it.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Jul 14 UTC

The only person being ageist here is you, Draug.

The mods pick mods because they think they'll be good at the job. You want them to pick someone just because they are old.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
25 Jul 14 UTC
Saying that modding one 18 year old is "a step back" seems to imply that. Modding someone just because they're over 40, rather than because they'd make a good moderator, also seems counter-productive. As for ageism in a small group on a small website, I think you're rather exaggerating there.
I'm sorry, but..... ageist? Really? How is that a legitimate complaint, exactly?
Fasces349 (0 DX)
25 Jul 14 UTC
I think the main irony here is that given Draug is a conservative, the arguments we're using about why he is being ageist is probably the same arguments he has used in the past when arguing that affirmative action is racist (I am of course assuming that Draug is like most conservatives in their opinions of AA, but I could be wrong.)
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Jul 14 UTC
From a practical sense, younger mods do make more sense because they have much more time, as others have said. We've had older (late 30's, maybe early 40's) mods before. They've been great, but they couldn't do nearly as much and they didn't last as long. Families, careers, midlife crises are all killers for mods.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
25 Jul 14 UTC
I think draug is just uncomfortable with the fact that the ruling class in a community he is active in is mostly filled with people who are less than half his age.
Lol, Draugnar point me to one over-40 qualified player who's actually applied

Allies vs Axis Yes or No and a new map
basically WW2 map with teams Free France GB Russia USA vs Germany Italy Japan Vichy France. If a teammate gets taken over your team can liberate your teammates territory which would bring him back but its only the territories he started out with. you can also move through your teammates territories and help defend them if a team dominates the map it would asked them to continue if all 4 players say yes this reverts back to the old diplomacy game type as a free for all.

Banned by a moderator: moron
I'm glad that the mods banned 'Peyton is back,' userID=63701, for his annoying spamming, but I dislike the fact that they cited such a childish-sounding reason. 'Banned by a moderator: spamming' would be a much more appropriate and 'adult' reason. I guess I'm just disappointed that the moderators would demean themselves and their reputation by acting so deplorably.

Why do we tolerate people within our society like obiwan?
I sometimes agree with these kind of people, that if we locked them all in a prison and killed them, we could free the world of ignorance and hatred within a week. Maybe the last war of man will be between the progressives and the ones holding us back.

Why are we so stubborn?
So I have a quick question why are diplomacy players so stubborn. Even in the event where you are offering a deal that equally benefits us and you why are we just so stubborn? Any ideas? Does this stubbornness hinder or help with achieving solos?

Hamas Rejects ANOTHER Ceasefire
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4549051,00.html "Speaking in Qatar, political chief Khaled Mashal demands Israel lift blockade, says Gaza-based group will never agree to disarm." I post another thread to specifically call attention to this...once AGAIN Hamas rejects a ceasefire. Demands met or no...surely if they're a people of peace they should allow for a ceasefire, right? But they've rejected it...again...but this is really Israel perpetuating the war. NEVER Hamas.
