Realpolitik Diplomacy-sign ups
Realpolitik diplomacy is diplomacy with a twist, unlike the standard game, this game will be played with a internal politics mechanism. Instead of playing as a country, you play as a political party within that country, vying not only to be the dominant force on the board, but also to command the loyalties of your electorate. See in side for the rules.

Realpolitik is taking the traditional diplomacy game and adding a democratic/political twist. All 7 countries in this game are democracies, working under a Parliamentary system. Every land province on the board has a certain number of seats (Capital cities (except Russias) have 4 seats; home supply centers have 3, 2 for non-home supply centers and 1 for non-supply center territories).
Each territory differs on political ideology, and have a number of issues on their mind:
For example, the people of Brest support a naval expansion, and constantly fear an English attack, whereas the people of Burgundy detest the Germans. During election-time parties will campaign in an attempt to win as many votes as possible.

Local elections are held every year for newly acquired territories. Regular elections can happen in one of four ways:
Firstly, when the current government term of 5 years expires.
Secondly, when the current government calls for an early election.
Thirdly, when the opposition leader calls for a vote of confidence; if a majority of MPs oppose the current government, a general election is launched.
Lastly, if the current government fails to submit orders.
During an election (and even without an election), the public’s opinions are influenced by good roleplaying on behalf of the players. Always remember the priorities of your voters.

After we have around 20 sign-ups (If we don’t have sufficient sign-ups then I’ll change the map to the ancient med.) I’ll randomly assign a country to each player (keeping in mind there will be multiple players in each country). Each player is to create a party centered around an ideology (Socialism, Centrism, Nationalism, Conservatism or Liberalism) keeping in mind the views of your electorate and also that this is 1901, so we’re using the classical definitions of the ideologies.

Each phase will last 2 days.

If you guys have any questions feel free to ask below.

How are you going to determine who is actually playing the game?
Fasces349 (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
This wont be a game on this site (unless you guys are ok with me making 7 multi-accounts and playing the game).

Orders will be submitted to me via PM and I'll be posting a picture of the map in the forum whenever the phase advances.

It sounds like it could be a good way to use the Dummy accounts. Fasces, can you give us more details here on how this will work because we have created a set of 7 Dummy accounts that could be used for special games like these?
ssorenn (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
is this not essentially the same as our dummy game?
Fasces349 (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
I guess we could use the dummy accounts, what as the dummy game?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
30 Jun 14 UTC
Its different. In our current game, everyone can enter and change moves at will. In this one, people are elected into power and for that time, only they can make orders.
ssorenn (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
so each sub-division of a country has its own vote within that individual country, and whoever is currently in control of the country makes a vote for that particular country... correct?
so if france loses burgundy to germany, than the burgudy vote goes to german PM for the next move, yes?
Fasces349 (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Burgundy would vote in the next German election and whomever wins that election would enter the orders for Germany.

sounds great, are 48 hours enough per turn

I think 48 hours will be enough, if most people disagree then I could increase it to 3 days.

how many different provinces are there on the diplomacy board(never really counted), and wouldnt you require at least 1 for each?

I play as the general public, you guys play as the political parties vying for votes.

Why do I have a feeling this will all boil down to the Krellin Party vs the Putin Party? With the rest of the general public wondering why some reasonable third party doesnt form up with sensible policies?
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
How many players does this actually need? I mean, surely Germany alone would need 6 players (one for each province) ??
Fasces349 (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
No Jamiet, we only need 2-3 players per country, remember you're not a voter but a party leader.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
I thought that was pretty clear, but I guess it wasn't, since more then one person has gotten this wrong.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Um.... I'm still confused. How is it decided how each province votes?
Fasces349 (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
The Game Master (in this case me) decides.

Each province has different political views, and how they vote will be based on the roleplaying of the players, their own views and partially based on a RNG.
ssorenn (0 DX)

Jamie I'm with you. :))

"Each province has different political views, and how they vote will be based on the roleplaying of the players, their own views and partially based on a RNG."

I'd need more information on how the mechanics of that actually work before I could agree to participate. What exactly is the mechanic for deciding the voting? I presume you have one worked out?
Fasces349 (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Example of an election: Being unoriginal this will be an election between the Labour Party and the Conservative Party, and to keep it simple the local election will be taking place in York.

York is anti-German and votes traditionally conservative. Initial Voter Impressions (I'll be posting these for all provinces when the game actually starts:
Conservative: 35
Labour: 30

During the campaign the labour party's campaign focuses on Anti-German sentiment in the area, while meanwhile the conservatives have started a war on France making it unlikely that they will be attacking Germany.

Labour gets a campaign bonus of +11 (arbitrarily decided by me based mostly on roleplaying of the respective players)
Conservatives get a campaign penalty of -3 (being pro-German)

The RNG (rolling a 1 D20):
Role for the Conservatives: 9
Role for the Labour: 1

Total votes:
Conservatives (35-3+9): 41
Labor (30+11+1): 42

Labour win the election and get the seat.

@fasces
In spite of the questions I put below and others I might have for clarification later, I agree with ILN: this is a FABULOUS idea.

1. campaign bonus is "arbitrarily decided by me based mostly on roleplaying of the respective players)" Based on any particular criteria? And will pandering = more votes (and broken promises from the last time = fewer)?
2. "Thirdly, when the opposition leader calls for a vote of confidence; if a majority of MPs oppose the current government, a general election is launched." Who counts as the opposition leader? And do parties have the option of forming coalition governments? I would hope/assume yes to the latter question, but I just want to be sure.
3. "Firstly, when the current government term of 5 years expires." This is just a suggestion, but knock it down to 4 years (ignoring the Belgians' recent decision to go the other way). That makes it possible for governments (and therefore PMs and players) to switch around a little more often. Allowing for a little more turnover might make the game more lively for the players.
4. How does the number of MPs elected get determined? Does each province give all its seats to the party that wins it? I'd assume so (and I approve; it's certainly the easiest way to go), but again, I'm just asking for clarification.

Once again, GREAT idea.

You Say You Wanna 2nd American Revolution? Brits vs. Yanks Game!
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=144210 As we play "Fireworks or Gunshot?" here on July 4th in the States, why not join the ranks of your countrymen and start the whole damn bloody business over again? Brits (and Canadians, assuming the Brits agree) will fight on one side, Yanks on the other...winners get the pot (or I suppose can fall to fighting amongst themselves) AND have to adopt the other side's linguistic customs for one week after the loss--for Crown or Colonies, go!

When a country misses a move during build phase that it needs to disband in, what order are the units disbanded in? Is it totally random? Or does it have to do with the timeline in which the units were built?
