Wow! What devotion!
Alcoholic father has gotten drunk at everyone of his son's baseball games since little league, and will continue to do so after his draft in the MLB
The inspiring story of a little boy who only ever wanted to play in the big leagues, and of a father whose inner demons could only be subdued by alcohol. It's a story many can relate to, but for a kid who's actually made it to the big time it's amazing to see just how alike we all are.
"I remember that when I was trying out for my high school team, I was really nervous and I struck out my first time up to bat. But my dad had shown up to cheer me on, and I was on fire for the rest of the day. I remember after tryouts, running up to him, and I'll never forget the pride in his words to me,
'son, I know you've worked hard today, and I'm sure you're tired *hic* but you're going to have to drive us home.' "
Wow. These are the memories that stick with you for a lifetime. I may have never made it in sports, and my dad's kidneys may have not made it past 50, but there's a great lesson to learn here. And maybe one day this lucky kid will be able to get shit-faced at his son's games.
