Your a tolerant chap Dipbro Brainbomb, if anyone called the divinely beautiful Princess Estelle, or the fire breathing MemSahib, Her Indoors on a sofa eating cake, a whore I don't think I could laugh it off. If it was said to them in person I would have to demand an apology. When I was a chipper young lad a long time ago, it was considered witty and clever to remark that a gentleman should treat a whore like a lady and a lady like a whore in the bedroom and both like ladies in public.
The essential truth in the witticism is that a gentleman treats all women as ladies. Eliza Doolittle knows that Colonel Pickering regards her as a lady because he always treats her as a lady, whereas Professor Higgins always treats her as the dishevelled flower girl he first met...characters in My Fair Lady.
I think I'd be equally incensed, angry if some blighter called either Princess Estelle or the fire breathing MemSahib a whore to their face. Now I just cannot imagine anyone being so foolish as to call the fire breathing MemSahib a whore to her face, particularly if the MemSahib was armed with bag of knitting kit, or polished Purdey. I'm also reasonably.confident the fire breathing MemSahib would beat me on the draw and fire first in some way. The woman's tongue is a lethal weapon in it's own right.
I can't see Princess Estelle taking it kindly either, but as beautiful as Estelle is she simply doesn't have the weaponry & combat experience at her disposal as the fire breathing MemSahib.
So as a hypothetical question, I'd think it probable that I would act to protect Princess Estelle. How would depend on the specific individual who had caused the offence. The ignorant red neck, ruffian type of characters, young thug types, I suppose, hypothetically I could delegate the task of "getting the apology" to some young cousin and their oldest lads who have persuasive talents in the pugilistic line, but I'm sure their powers in the verbal persuasion line and the hint of their pugilistic prowess is all that is ever required.
A person with power of their own or powerful family or with powerful allies in society, they are a different rat to trap. That's an opponent you have to study carefully before making any move.
Well I had better go an attend to other matters. I'll have to tell you about my battered lime tree and the other citrus trees another day. But the battered one has received attention from the gardener at my direction so there is still.hope
