How does one resign a game?
I notice that many games list some of their players as having resigned. However, the interface doesn't appear to have a "resign" button anywhere. So how do people resign games?

Post costumes and other shenanigans pictures here. Or just describe what you're doing. Whatever works.

So here's the game. When you post, pick the costume you think the PREVIOUS POSTER would be wearing. Repeat posting is allowed, as is naming a repeat costume for the same poster.

Go!

Bunch of dicks and point whores exploiting CD's pretty much sums up this game.

Wasted two fucking hours because people care more about their super duper virtual points than actually having a fun, fair game.

Yes.

Can buying out Lucas bring a little credit to the series? Or will Disney bring even more muppet nonsense to the series?

Only he who can destroy the spice controls it.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Oct 12 UTC
Not completely true. He who controls the spice's movement and distribution can control it. If the spacing guild chooses to embargo Arrakis and only allow spice to move off planet if they get a 20% cut off the raw or refined spice, then they control it. If they get greedy and decide 20% isn't enough, then whoever controls Arrakis still has to use them to ship it and has to pay the extored rate or the spice will not flow.

Why would they want the Duke's *son* killed?
Octavious (2802 D)

I have a tub of allspice in the cupboard that's not been touched since the last millenium. If a taste of that doesn't have a profound effect on the human mind I don't know what will.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
30 Oct 12 UTC
I disagree, Draug.

As Paul-Maud'Dib showed, the Guild is irrelevant if those on Arrakis know how to control the Spice. They had the Guild by the balls and through the Guild, the entire Empire.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Oct 12 UTC
True, abge, but had Paul not been the Quisatz Hadderak (sp?) he would not have had the power to control and kill with a word alone and could never have commanded the worms as he did. Paul was unique and effectively all powerful while on Arrakis.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
30 Oct 12 UTC
Kwisatz Haderach

True, but I'm not sure he was the only one who could have done it. Remember, Liet-Kynes already had the Fremen working on converting the surface of Arrakis. It's realistic to assume that had Kynes not died, they could have done so without their prophet.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Oct 12 UTC
In time maybe, but their conversion was very small in scale and to make it greater would have gotten the attention of the Emperor and the Baron. It took them being organized into a force to be reckoned with to make that dream a reality. It took Paul-Muad'Dib.

Octavious (2802 D)

Spice is irrelevant. There is nothing that spice can do that can't be done better by thinking machines.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
30 Oct 12 UTC
Not true. Back before the Guild, the Machines were restricted to Newtonian travel. It took 1,000s of years to communicate between some of the furthest machine planets.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Oct 12 UTC
As abgemacht points out, space could not be folded before the Spice Melange.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
31 Oct 12 UTC
Well to be fair, the Holtzman generators fold space, which I'm sure the Machines could make. The real issue is not crashing into a sun or planet or debris when you fold space, which requires a Navigator.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Oct 12 UTC
I often wonder though if the Mentat's might not be able to compute all the interations quickly enough to fulfill a Navigator's job.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
31 Oct 12 UTC
I think many mentats could be trained to be Navigators, but on their own, I doubt it. The limited Prescience obtained from massive amounts of Spice is what allows the Navigators to see through Fold-Space, as far as I understand.

Have you read any of Brian Herbert's prequels?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Yes, all of them, I believe.
Draugnar (0 DX)

I did House Atriedes and was working on House Harkonnen when I got distracted by Les Miserables. I need to get back to them. I have House Corrino, Butlerian Jihad and Machine Crusade. I need to pick up the thrid from the early history trilogy and there are 6 other books by him as well. He published twice as many books as his father.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
31 Oct 12 UTC
Twice as many Dune books? Frank wrote a bunch of other books as well

I thought the prequels were OK. It was smart thinking teaming up with Anderson.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Oct 12 UTC
I meant int he series. Frank did 6, Brian and company did 12.

I never did finish Chapterhouse. One of these days I need to go back and try again.

I actually like the Prequels and Legends more than most of the original series.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
31 Oct 12 UTC
I'm actually rereading Dune right now, but it's been a while since I read the others. If I had to rate them, I think it would go:

Dune
God Emperor
Heretics
Chapterhouse
Children
Messiah

I liked the first prequel trilogy (with Leto), but I'm not sure they were necessary. We really didn't learn anything that you didn't learn from the appendices in Dune.

The Butlerian prequels were much more interesting. I wonder how much was based off of Frank's notes.

I am particularly fond of the Tleilaxu, which are featured more prominently in the later books.
