Game question
If a unit attempts to capture territory and it would successfully do so otherwise, but that unit must be destroyed because that player loses supply centres that phase, will the territory it attempts to move into be captured?

EoG- Final Game 1
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=75338#votebar

Given that my other 'final game' didn't finish, this really did turn out to be my last on the site. It would have been nice to have soloed, and frustratingly I think I missed a couple of decent opportunities, but I'm still very pleased with the result, especially given my weak start! More later!!

Why is it that...
Everyone seems to think that the sole Biblical source outlawing gay marriage rests in Leviticus? I've seen this in my conversations with friends and classmates and also on this forum here. There are in fact a number of different places where the Bible outlaws gay marriage.

I'm not trying to argue for whether it is right or wrong in this thread. I just am curious as to why there is so much misinformation floating around.

It's mission-the efficient, egalitarian, utilitarian way to double world GDP.
I would have told them to replace "double world GDP" with cut poverty in half so that brain dead socialists would use worn out rhetoric to attack it.

multiple breeds of sharks are getting together to have massive orgies leading to frightening hybrids! on a related note, global warming must be real because dc cherry blossoms came out a bit early, nevermind that snow in the sahara for the first time ever... or wait, maybe that snow proves global warming as well.

good video?
a youtube video that really rings true for me. particularly the part that says school sucks and the part that compares obama to hitler. only problem is that it sounds vaguely poetic, and poetry is gay.

Failure of Obama's Housing Market Policy
Why are home prices still falling in 2012 four years after their initial collapse?
Because the government wasted hundreds of billions if not a trillion dollars on futile attempts to manipulate the market and keep home prices up. What foolishness. The market can't be denied people- finger in the dike stuff.

Not my words but an interesting viewpoint
We should look to the antics of our own war addicted leaders with their mockery of democracy before we get involved in any other country. The West holds no moral high ground, while this state of enslavement to the economy of us, the people, exists, to interfere with other systems of rule. The veneer of legitimacy of our own goverments these days is no thicker than that of the Taliban

Legislating a Faith..
After reading some of the comments in the gay marriage debate I have come to wonder why certain faiths feel the need to legislate their morals. Do they feel that their way is the only way or is it just a method to control everything?

Pacifist Variant
Lets decide on fool-proof rules so Draug and nefarious people like him cannot ruin another pacifism game.
NikeFlash (140 D)
15 Mar 12 UTC
These are the failed set of rules. Feel free to use them as a starting point, or as a lesson on what not to do.

"Here are the rules that we can amend and we must agree on by simple majority (half plus one, so 7/2 +1=4.5 we cannot have less so the minimum is 5):
1) Since we are all playing the role of the diehard pacifist, NO MOVES! [failed moves DO count as moves]
2) The last person not in CD wins. (After all this is pacifist survivor. Outlast. Outlast. Outlast.)
3) Any person that does decide to be a dick and break the rules has 1 chance to move back to their original SC's. If it happens twice (total, not per person) then the game is cancelled. If the move results in ANY gain (including neutral SC and non-SC spaces) then the game will be cancelled.
4) No pauses. If something terrible happens, look at this game as an outlet. If it starts to feel like a job and you do not like it, quit (one less person to wait it out with me).

If you find these terms agreeable, understand them fully, and are determined to stay true to them in ALL circumstances PM me."
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

There is no such thing as a fool-proof set of rules that people won't break, especially when they subconsciously want to break them.
The best you can do is to provide guidelines with perhaps a few points of non-negotiable rules and appeal to the best in people.

For example, it would be nearly impossible for bullshoi, KA, D33 and the likes to play this variant.

I posted this in the other thread so:
#1 We're all pacifists so no moving units allowed, all players are to save/finalize holds.
#2 Should someone move a unit out of his sc, he is warned and has to move back, should this movement take a territory not originally controlled by him, he is to be eliminated via coordination from the other 6 players (or mod intervention)
#3 6 hour phases, this is to ensure that people have to check in multiple times per day.
#4 It will be full press, so that we can cordinate properly in eliminating cheaters.
#5 Once you have left the game, don't rejoin after (you can rejoin games you cd if noone takes over). Again, a mod will hopefully enforce this.

NikeFlash (140 D)

Maybe for you. But I did not break the rules, and I was having a blast. Also, the "law-laying" was clearly needs after game one. Are you actually commending Draug for his actions? (that is how your post reads)
dubmdell (556 D)
15 Mar 12 UTC
Fasces, that's a good start. I have rewritten your rules 1 and 5 into harder rules with less ambiguity. I have added what Nike had that you omitted.
#1 No 'move' orders allowed for any reason. 'Hold' and 'support' orders are acceptable.
#2 No rejoining after CD for any reason.
#3 The last person not in CD wins.
#4 No pauses, not even for Rosh Hashanah.

Your rule 2 is a consequence of rule 1. As abgemacht said, we do not need to list punishments in the rules. It can be assumed/ stated outside the rules that violations will result in mod team notification.

Your rules 3 and 4 are game conditions, which I have rewritten for clarity and because I disagree about the press:
*) Phase length will be 6 hours, this is to ensure that people have to check in multiple times per day.
*) It will be /public/ press, so that the community can enjoy the show as much as they players.

Oh, game condition #3, all punishments will be determined by Octavious ;)
yebellz (729 D(G))
16 Mar 12 UTC
Here's an interesting idea for a punishment for ordering a move (successful or not):

The offending player(s) will be force CDed and the game will be immediately force drawn, resulting in a resign on that player's record.

Further, anyone other CDed players who had not broken a rule in that game will be allowed to rejoin before the game is force drawn. This ensures that only the cheating player(s) will be punished with a resign.
