im playing with a friend using the actual board. we got a used copy from the internet and the instructions and rules werent there. i told him but he wouldnt believe me so i have to post it here to get confirmations for you all

I assume this is the motto of Diplomacy. I further assume that this is why there aren't many female players: it is hard to castrate those.

Any player of a board game who would not believe your statement that the armies would simply swap places (independent of seeing written confirmation) could not POSSIBLY be intelligent to play against.

I feel it necessary to point out that it IS possible to switch places of 2 units in diplomacy in one move...
If one of the units moves with a convoy, it would become an exchanged places move (this is why you have to put 'via convoy' or 'via land' in your orders... so an enemy doesn't "trick" you into a convoy).
In your example, both areas are landlocked, so this isn't feasible, but here's an example:
France has:
F MAO
A Spa

England has:
A Por

If england moves A Por->Spa and france moves A Spa-Por (via convoy) and F MAO convoy A Spa-Por, then england and france would swap Por and Spa. Make sense?

True, and since the example given is landlocked it is moot. But I wanted to say that it IS possible, just not in the current example... just for general knowledge (I didn't want people to say you can never switch 2 units places).

Alternatively, anyone with these types of questions could download RealPolitik, set up the board the way it is, and run it on their adjudicator. Just a thought...Also, I'm sure there are places on the web to get a free copy of the game rules (updated versions even).
