seriously... i mean i can appreciate a game that takes 4 months to finish but why no one wants to sit and play a live game?

Actually to tell you the truth its not that famous. Once you know about it, it seems like it was always there but not that many people have actually heard of it.

Personally, after playing online I find that playing in real life is just not as fun. I love seeing the map

I would guess the 7 player requirement is a big factor.

Even in college it was hard to get seven guys together for 7 hours. We usually didn't start most of our games until about 11pm.

I am of the opinion the map here is very nice to look at, aswell as the colors.
But it is still more awesome to have a nice big real life map!

I never play face-to-face because its impractical to find the numbers and the time.

well another reason nerds don't play it is they are stuck on some game called risk. since its like the most amazing game ever. you get to take over the world! diplomacy is just Europe. plus risk has dice! Sarcasm was hopefully caught

I've only ever had the chance to play a couple FtF games, and while online is certainly more convenient, nothing beats table trash talk and getting to see your freshly-stabbed neighbor's face. I would like to play a game through post sometime, though, just to say I did.

The map colours are the same as in the British version of the game, that is why England is pink and not blue.

Diplomacy > Axis & Allies

I play Axis & Allies about 1 a 2 times in a year with my brother. I've bought the board game Diplomacy 4/5 months ago, but I haven't had the time to play it with some friends,... Though we'll probably play it with 6 players instead of 7.....
My fear is.... That it will be a one time experiment, just because most friends won't love the game....

Diplomacy is a tough game to play with friends. You have to make allies to win, and generally you have to stab someone to live. Not all people can take that kind of thing impersonally. Finding 7 is just that much harder.

Yes I know, but I've got a board game group with about 6 a 7 players. But not all of them like Strategy games. But because of that, we are a little bit used to be stabbed in the back by others. We play also (With a large group) Twilight Imperium. It's not as evil as diplomacy but It can be pretty evil, depends on how the group plays.

I was reading Wikipedia about Cuban Nuclear Missiles , and them reading about The US president of that time ( the one who die ) , and I read that kissinger play this , so I try it :D

It's the time. I was part of a group of pretty serious board game players. We played Axis & Allies until we didn't need to think about the first 2 or 3 turns. For serious games, we'd play Civilization (not the Sid Meier version), Titan, Kingmaker, occasionally Third Reich. Even with that, we only played 3 or 4 games of Dip. It was totally the most fun game, but it was also very difficult to work out the scheduling. As written, with 15-minute turns, 5-minute builds, and the time to work out the moves, you're talking 45 minutes per year. A typical game here lasts until 1912, so that's 9 hours--and if the game gets good, it could be a lot longer.

I've played in a number of face-to-face games, and the only way to really go about it is setting aside a full day, otherwise it's too rushed.

Yes I am aware of that fact. Personally I like the American version better. I was just stating a fact. Kestas is from the uk (originally) so it is natural that he woul base this site on the board he was familiar with.
