Favorite Diplomacy Maneuver.
I know this thread has been done countless times, but it's a subject worth updating. What are some of your favorite combinations of moves, convoys, or diplomatic trickery that you've been able to pull off in a game on webDiplomacy?

Please give a link to the game mentioned!

The convoy switch a roo. If I ever did it it was in f2f.

Imagine I am France. I have Hol. Germany, my (maybe new) ally has Bel. We decide to trade them. This can be done in one turn with the help of North Sea convoying one around. It's beast.

Took over a cd Turkey in 1904 to make a strong second in 1909

Not my best game, with a 5 center loss in ONE turn, but I hung on till the very end and remained a factor in the game

My first serious game; interesting diplomacy all around, and a decent job considering I battled everyone on the board at some time or another

The games you posted and discriptions are broad. I thought the thread was about specific sets of moves, such as the Key Lepanto. I've never successfully used a series of moves like this. I am proud of a few games where I've successfully convinced someone to leave their SC(s) open while I betrayed them.

This is one of my games where I was quite proud of my diplomatic and strategic skills despite my near loss. As Austria, I managed to keep a secure alliance with Turkey for half the game. This is not a common alliance mid and late game. Then I got paranoid that he would betray me in favor of England, which was likely my downfall. I was able to salvage a draw by positioning myself and one unit of Germany's in just the right place while, playing for both sides.

I also find it fun when I'm able to come up with a better defensive plan by using mostly support cuts as apposed to support holds

While this game all in all hasn't been so great, still going though. I'm particularly or the unwanted support order I gave to germany in 02.

As well the way me and turkey have played so far is worth noting.

Don't have a link, but in a PBM game I played Germany opened F Kie-Den, A Ber-Kie, A Mun-Ruh; then comes the diplomatically flexible F Den-Ska, A Kie-Den, A Ruh-Hol. Very interesting.

As Italy, Supporting spain to mar in fall 1901 is hilarious and prevents F from building a fleet in MAR

Giving my "enemy" the inside information he needed to form a stalemate line against my "ally" to force a four way draw. If my "ally" had broken through he might have gone for a solo by stabbing me and I would have been eaten up from all sides.

I love E/G and A/T alliances, when the naval power has units surrounding the land-based one, so it almost looks like a slow-motion hug.

Sort of proud of this...

I was France and had a fairly stable relationship with Italy. I had an army in SPA and one in MAR and a fleet in Gulf. In one move I convoyed SPA into Tus and moved MAR into PIE.

Not amazingly creative but was proud of my convoy as I'm sure he wasn't expecting it.

I always find the Italy opening with Tus-Pie very interesting. Keeps France on its toes :)

I had fleets in Ionian and Thyrrenian and opponent had fleets in Naples and Tunis. I guessed his moves and took both his SCs while he took my places. :-)

http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=16952 autumn in 1902 as Russia... Turkey and I had allied up to a point and I had convoyed his army and then set it up so I could help him in to Rumania... Italy and I had been talking from the get-go, so I knew he wouldn't mind me picking off Turkey...

Turkey anticipates me convoying him into Rumania with support, instead I take Rumania and backstab him by taking Constantinople, and he had no fleets ready to fight me off. He called me the worst ally he'd ever had and said, "Enjoy." and then left the game.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Wow, 10 centers at the end of the second year. Nice job.

I never understood people that get stabbed and are pissed, so what do they do? They quit playing, thereby HELPING you all the more! I would have fought tooth and nail. In any case, very nice set of moves there.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=13090#gamePanel

Spring 1909. I am Russia and wanted to make an alliance with England. So I offer England my center in Norway. England has a fleet in the North Sea and an army in London. I want England to take Norway with the North Sea but did not want his army from London to take Norway....since I didn't quite trust him. So I sent Sweden to Norway which would have bounced his army...but I supported his move from the NS with St. Petersburg, therefore the only move that would succeed is the move from NS.

It's a pretty cool manuever but it doesn't present itself too often.

as austria- convincing italy to be this kind of guy - "I always find the Italy opening with Tus-Pie very interesting. Keeps France on its toes :) "

then France in spain, telling him Italy definitely wasn't going to hit mars (that he was going to let france move to mars, which prevents him building there and prevents him taking spain)

only to see my italian ally pick up mars in 1901 (and we were allies til i stabbed him... to eventually go on to win)

Alright, uralLESBIANS, I'll be a little more specific this time.

Spring 1903, I intend to land troops in Syria as Italy. I send him a message, saying,
"You do realize that attacking a convoy doesn't stop it, right?"

By dropping this nugget of a rule, I prevented Turkey from bouncing my army as it landed.

Actually, that example's in the manual for the board game. XD

If not there, then I remember reading it somewhere, but pretty sure it was the manual.
The manuever is explained on the Diplomacy Resource site. I read about it a year ago. It took me almost that long to have the need/opportunity to use it. I haven't looked at the board game instructions in about 20 years, so I will have to defer comment.

Favorite maneuver, hmmm. Well I suppose my favorite maneuver is to lure my enemies in by 'losing' ground to them when in fact I am positioning myself to give them a good smacking.

http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=14178#gamePanel

From the beginning of the game, culminating in Autumn 1904, just watch the German/French border. I was experimenting with breaking stalemates. The entire game was rather lame, on the account of a couple multis (they're banned now, I believe), but that little tidbit made me rather proud of myself.

The key move was a NOT move, Autumn 1901. I am Germany, and I convince Italy to NOT move to Marseilles. France attempts to bounce with Italy in Mar, instead, moves into Mar, blocking a build and allowing me into Burgundy. That begins an alliance that lasts until the last move of the game.

Unfortunately, I thought I had everything covered, but Malleus found one vulnerable SC to take the game 18-16.
SEcki (1171 D)

@kaner406: nice move, though I wonder: why did you give Turkey a draw? That way the move is not really that impressive - it gained you nothing more than a little show off.
@SpeelOfWheels: nice move indeed

Autumn 1901.

Germany played Mun- Bur, and I played Ven - Pie. France held Marseilles and played to Picardy. He thinks that Ger will support me to Mar, so he plays Mar - Bur, Pic - Bel. Only to be the recipient of Bur - Par and Pie - Mar! Which I coordinated with Germany, France went down quickly after that.
kaner406 (356 D)
27 Jan 10 UTC
@ SEcki - I know it was bad show to give Turkey the draw, but he was a fun player, and had good humourous chatting. I didn't want to penalise him too much. Besides; it's just a game... isn't it... *twitch *twitch...
