Should there be a Punishment for going CD (civil disorder/leaving a game)?
Should there be a Punishment for a player going CD / leaving a game?
I would argue for a there being a punishment if a player does it more than once per every 4 months or something, but i am not sure what a good punishment would be? (points taken away is easy, but also easily ignored, perhaps a reprimand private message, or a cool off period where they can't join new games, etc.)

0.9 released
0.9 is out now, it addresses a fair few of the common gripes and requests that have registered over the last few months, adds some new interface elements, and makes a couple of small rule changes

Summoning the Armies
I have a problem - I'm playing this game ( http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=12388 ) and I can only build armies and fleets in England (Liv, Edinburg and London). Why cant I build them in, for excemple, Denmark, or anywhere else in Europe?

questions regards attacking a CD territory.
Does one dislodge units in the usual way or can one unit win against an occupied CD territory?

Aid us, m'lords! :-)
If I made a move on Constantinople with an army, and in the next turn my army enters it without changing the color of the territory (just with it's small square with my color), does that mean that I didn't conquer the territory? Could I move the army somewhere else (ex. Bulgaria) and still hold Constantinople, or do I lose it? Thanx in advance!

Haha, gotcha. No, you can't really have my account. My real reason for posting this was, since I'm leaving webDip, to find out if anyone who is not currently in any games with me would mind finishing my games. Email me if you're considering it.

I assume this variant already exists, but...
Would anyone be interested in a game where players are forbidden to take neutral countries? Only homecenters are fair game. The pot would be just 5 D since it's an experimental game.

Question About Convoys
How do you put in orders for a multiple unit convoy. I'm not sure what orders to input for the second fleet in the convoy. Does it convoy from the first fleet to the final destination, or from the original spot to the final destination?

would a failed convoy cut support?
like if you set your army to convoy but not your fleets would it work?
Dunecat (5899 D)

Nope, failed convoys do not cut support.
tilMletokill (100 D)

or bounce?
Alderian (2425 D(S))

If you do not order your fleet to convoy the army, then the army's attempt to move fails utterly and has no impact on anything else, as if it hadn't been ordered to move at all.

i actually have wondered this. if you do order a convoy by the fleet and the army, can it cut support? i know i could look it up, but i always seem to think of it when i don't really have time. and i wonder if the op was actually asking this question?
Yes, it's exactly the same as a land move. So, it would bounce, but cut support. Also the convoy cannot be broken unless the fleet is dislodged, so the action goes through even if another fleet attacks the convoying fleet.
Onar (131 D)

Can a convoy cut support against the convoying fleet?
StevenC. (1047 D(B))
08 Aug 09 UTC
I don't think so.
Katsarephat (100 D)

Onar's question is one of the convoy paradoxes, and it's up to adjudicators how they want to resolve it. (Check the webDiplomacy DATC page, somewhere on the Help/FAQ pages, for more info)

I _believe_ webDiplomacy elects to have the convoy fail and the fleet dislodge. (In a way, a convoyed army attack is a bit like the convoying fleet instead attacking. In that case, it would be that you can't cut support on an attack aimed at your original territory, unless you dislodge the supporting unit.)

My favorite convoy paradox is this:

England:
F London Support F Wal > Eng

France:
F Eng convoy A Brest > London

Germany:
F Bel support F Nth > Eng

Resolve THAT one. :-)

What about this? I'm too lazy to put it into my adjudicator and look it up.

England:
F Nth convoy A Lon > Hol

France:
F Eng support F Bel > Nth

Germany:
A Kiel > Hol

Obviously, North Sea get's dislodged, but does Germany's move to Holland bounce with the failed convoy?
Toby Bartels (361 D)

Right, a convoy can cut support (assuming that it is ordered by all parties and none of the fleets are dislodged) but cannot provide support.
Xapi (194 D)

No, there's no bounce.

(Sorry, my post took a while to write and doesn't actually address what people were talking about. Still I have the consolation that it is correct! ^_^)
vamosrammstein (757 D(B))

I would think not, because the convoy never took place, so the English army isn't there to bounce with the German army. I'm too lazy to look it up as well, so I could be wrong.
rlumley (0 DX)
08 Aug 09 UTC
I would think that it WOULD bounce, since a convoy is essentially just an extended move.

If he moved Nth > Hol, that move would bounce, so he shouldn't be penalized for trying a convoy... This makes convoys worse than normal moves, which shouldn't be the case.
lkruijsw (100 D)
08 Aug 09 UTC
rlumley. The adjudicator implements the Szykman rule. That means that the convoying fleet part of the situation fails to do his duties, while all orders are adjudicated as normal.

This means, that in the first situation the convoy fails, but the convoying fleet is not dislodged. The London support is not cut, because of the failing convoy.

In the second situation, a disrupted convoy can not bounce. The German unit will advance. This is tested by DATC.

The German unit bounces with the English unit though unless the successful convoy cuts the support of the English unit.
