Situation of Honor
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5493 In this game I agreed to draw with Both Germany and Russia. Their condition was that England is eliminated. So I offer to support Germany to finish England in return for a draw. While I can not force them to actually draw (it appears they will not) Do you think these tactics of lying in such a way is appropriate within the game of PHP Diplomacy?

How can I access the thread with this same title that was here last week? My direct link seems to be broken, but I still owed a couple of answer to people who shared their ideas in there... :(

Is attacking the person with the highest point total a valid strategy?
Do you guys think that attacking or ganging up on the person with the highest points for no other reason is valid? Of course its according to the rules, but isn't that arbitrary?

What do you guys think?

Support question
Can F-Black Sea support F-Cons -> Bulgaria SC? I have been told that a unit can provide support to a country it can attack, regardless of which coast, but I am concerned that in the "support to" textbox, I have the option of Bulgaria or Bulgaria NC but no SC.

UNVarient Responses
Hi, I'm adjudicating your votes, and this seems the easiest way to talk to all of you at once. I have not received votes from all of you, when do you want the output from me? If you're trying to decide in which format to submit your responses, as one of you has asked me, the most useful for me is to have them sorted by attacking nation.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
Other quick questions: do i tell you by what margin votes have been won, or just if they are won or not?
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
I hadn't anticipated that. I assume that this is all being done in secrecy, in which case, I would say keep the totals secret (otherwise we might be able to work out who voted for what etc.)

If you can, please try and keep a record figle - would be great to add to an EOG statement! Many thanks for your help.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
"I hadn't anticipated that" - it is. I'm not going to say who's voted and who hasn't, but i wanted to know when I'm to give the results - ie whats the end-of-phase for voting.
And sure, will do. To check then: what is the criteria for passing? 4/7 votes or are we following the more complex idea someone suggested
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
I may have missed the more complex idea - what was that?

I thought a simple majority would work, though what do we do in a tie? Allow or reject the build?
Archonix (246 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
I did send you an e-mail figle can you confirm that you got it?
Archonix (246 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
Oh, and I think that we allow a build in the event of a tie. I thought that was mentioned but maybe not.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
Ah sorry, I've now replied to each message I've got.
Chrispminis (916 D)

Yeah, build is allowed in the event of a tie.

The real question is does he just announce which builds are allowed? Or does he also put out the vote totals?
Darwyn (1601 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
Good question...I'd be in favor of either: listing the number of votes per territory or not at all.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
Well, I've obviously got a count at the moment, so you say when you've decided.
When am I revealing the results?
Darwyn (1601 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
I'd say reveal the results just as soon as you received them all.

In fact, if you have them all now, you could simply reveal who gets how many builds right now! We can always add the list of votes per territory later should we decide to do it.

figlesquidge (2131 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
Unfortunately I do not have all the data yet, so hey. I'll be on a bit tomorrow, but at what time do you want me to reveal them if I _dont_ get the data in? Otherwise you might miss the phase cycle (unless you choose to pause this phase?)
Darwyn (1601 D)
13 Oct 08 UTC
Oh, right...I forgot about abstentions. Someone mentioned Tuesday at 2pm as the deadline for votes (12 hours before the deadline)...but if my math is correct, as long as you post them by about this time tomorrow (see my time stamp), we should be good, I think.

I'm in EST...it is 4:30pm, Monday, Oct. 13 here.
Braveheart (2408 D(S))
14 Oct 08 UTC
I stated on global chat that the outcome of the voting should be revealed by Figles (but not exact details of who voted for whom). at some point you'll be able to work out based on the SC count... or may be not.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
14 Oct 08 UTC
Right, well I'm going to be a few hours early with this declaration then because I'm not going to have access at 12hrs, and I don't want you to miss them because I was late!

Any requests regarding how to present the votes next time? I am not sure if the way I did it was what you required.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
14 Oct 08 UTC
I must admint I'm not quite sure which set of votes were yours, but they were all fine. Personal preference for me would be to get them sorted by country, but it doesn't really matter.
Sure, I'll keep all your emails. Just to question, are rejected invasions allowed to be reapplied for. Ie, next phase can Turkey apply to have control of Rumania ratified?
Archonix (246 D)

yes.
Braveheart (2408 D(S))

Figles - when are you going to tell us the results of the votes? (assume you didn't have time before). By that I mean number of votes cast in each direction (but not who cast the votes).
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
15 Oct 08 UTC
I don't believe that was part of the agreement for the reasons set out in the thread above?
Braveheart (2408 D(S))
15 Oct 08 UTC
Well that wasn't my intention when I suggested we might try secret ballots for this variant..... in all voting/elections I'm aware of you always find out the margin of victory (even if individual votes are secret).

I also didn't see the majority vote against revealing the result of the vote (only that individual votes were hidden).
sean (3490 D(B))
15 Oct 08 UTC
wow, this variation sounds tricky. what will you do when one member is killed off and you have a voting pool of 6? what punishments do you have for screw ups/accidental builds?
Archonix (246 D)
15 Oct 08 UTC
Nothing gets cancelled without a majority.
Archonix (246 D)
15 Oct 08 UTC
And screw-ups we'll work out case-by-case. You won't last long if you've pissed everyone off in diplomacy by breaking a rule.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
15 Oct 08 UTC
Well, as I understood I was to save all the information up and tell you at the end of the game. If you lot want me to tell you now I can, but I thought i was supposed to keep them secret.
Sean - tell me about it :P

Braveheart (2408 D(S))

not necessarily. Figles keep stum until we decide to reveal or not... much appreciated. Lots of intrigue at the moment though, EOG statement will be pretty amusing... i defy anyone to figure out exactly who voted for what in 1901.
Darwyn (1601 D)
15 Oct 08 UTC
lol...yep, the votes have definitely proved themselves interesting, even if they complicate things a bit.
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
15 Oct 08 UTC
Yes, everyone's first instinct was to turn around and accuse their prospective allies of stabbing them! Most amusing.

Besides, I actually think this may lead to a lot of short term alliances. It will be very interesting.

Full memory of Correspondence
/right now there is a limit on the space for messages so that your earlier messages get lost in cyber-land as the game goes on or as your correspondence is more intense, whcih is exactly when you really want to be able to go back to the beginning to find out where things went sideways or to go over subtle nuances that you may have missed.
Can this be fixed reasonably quickly???
