I don't know you

I think I haven't played you

But massive respect you and Austria are playing a Key Lepanto and it is genius. I hope it works out. Bit of shame France is so hostile but still sheer genius

Concerning the use of abusive language
In game Vampire Weekend, I (Italy) opened a message from Austria and it was filled with foul language and abusive phrases. (I don't want to give examples here)

I know what you are thinking, I post this message because I am losing, but is this really the way people play Diplomacy?

Kestas - Request to see thread titles beginning with "Kestas -" toned down, or eliminated.
It gets kind of old.... when I see it i think "Oh someone wants a draw." Except it often isn't. Why not say what the thread is about in the title and adress it to Kestas in the body. For example I could have titled this thread, "Stop with the lame thread titles please." This is kind of petty I know but it has been bothering me. Especially when Kestas never even responds within the thread. He obviously doesn't care or doesn't think the thread *adressed* to him meritted a response. That ought to tell you something.

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3177

I was almost sure I did a move which has not been done whereas there was no attack by opponents to intercept this move (Fleet berlin to Baltic sea).

Can somebody checked it out?
How can we see past orders ?

Thanks

In the game Betrayal:
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3266
which is a WTA game of pot total 175, austria and turkey had long been empty against each others empty scs, which caused suspicion, yet now, Austria has C/Ded, which made the whole suspicion worse. If Turkey gets all Austria gets, he is much stronger player with "2" countries.

Winner Takes All (500 pts) - the game is Revelstone...
Okay, I am setting up the big one. If you are (still) interested, please let me know via my e-mail (in profile) and I will send out a password as soon as we have a quorum.

I will not open the game to those of you I know as students/relatives etc... I would like this to be a truly international affair.

I am returning to Hong Kong today and hope to set the game up within 24 hours... It will be called Revelstone.

Remember, I need an e-mail to send the password.

I look forward to a healthy game...

Awards
we were discussing awards on another thread. but now that we have stats easy to see in our profile we can have awards based on them (rather than subjective voting awards). shall we say a minimum 10 games so as to give a fair assessment.
i suggest the awards should be as given in the profile page

the diplomacy addict award (* Total)

everyone hates me Award! (* Defeated )
coveted grand winner Award (* Won)
Mr Draw award (* Drawn)
I WILL survive Award ( * Survived)
sean (3490 D(B))
26 Mar 08 UTC
oh and awards based on the % not the number to give newer player s a fair chance
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
Hmm. I'm tempted by sheer inevitability to award the 'Coveted Grand Winner' to Rait...

Interestingly, my survival rate is 50% - completely unintentional, but would be interested to see whether there are any higher rates?

figlesquidge (2131 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
Another one Sean, Undeafeated, which is total minus defeated (or sum of other fields). Also, are you going to set a minimum number?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
for I will survive, sum the draw, survive and won %ages.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
figle, great minds think alike. Minimum was 10 games.

How about an award for most rapid growth? Points (both in games and unspent)/games
DeathOfRats (182 D)

Award - Most likely to BLOW a lead Award?
(Given to a player who has managed to get to a certain %ge and then not win the game?)

Consistency Award
(Given to a player who has managed x wins on the bounce)

Golden Duck Award
(Given to a player who has been killed in x consecutive games without surviving once)

I also think the award for a person who has 'stayed alive' in x consequtive games should be the 'Invicibility' award or something that sounds a bit 'nails!'

:)

sean (3490 D(B))
26 Mar 08 UTC
i just chose those awards coz they were the % given in the profile page. others suck as you suggest mark would require people to put in a bit more time and memory recollection to sort it all out.figles- so undefeated is 100% minus the defeated%?
sean (3490 D(B))
26 Mar 08 UTC
as this is a test run of awards im going to keep it simple.
. ok, can i start it off. im going to paste in my stats MINUS the number of games (to reduce clutter) Please post any % scores you have that are BETTER (ie a higher win percentage, higher drawn % or higher defeated(loser award) % etc and please ONLY post such scores and not all your stat %.
for example if somebody above you in the thread has a win % at 50% and a draw% at 40% and you have a 51%win and 39% draw stat then ONLY post the win%.) after a few days we should come up with less and less posts and we can see the final winners of the stats.
(minimum games 10)

total number of games 24

I vote we rename the 'Most likely to BLOW a lead award' to the 'Darwin Award' - referring to the real awards for people who remove themselves from the gene pool in the most amusing and stupid ways.
Darwyn (1601 D)

# Defeated: 5%
# Survived: 58%

cgwhite has me on defeated by 1%. I thought mine was pretty damn low too.
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
Woohoo! I reckon though that my survival percentage is higher than 50% if you add in wins and draws... are we allowed to do that?
thewonderllama (100 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
True survival percentage (think this was noted above) is merely who has the lowest defeated number, which would currently be you.

Darwyn (1601 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
Oh, and the "everyone hates me" award for Defeated % should be the "everyone loves me" award.
alamothe (3367 D(B))
26 Mar 08 UTC
so... you're basing this awards solely on percentages?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
"Everybody hates me" is loosing often
thewonderllama (100 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
yeah, you know awards shouldn't be based on percentage type stuff...those are rankings, really. it'd be much better to have subjective things for awards. they're much more fun.
Darwyn (1601 D)
26 Mar 08 UTC
k...to be clear...
high defeat % = everybody hates me.
low defeat % = everybody loves me

thewonderllama has a point though. :)

I'm going for the Most Balanced Record award, if I win my current game!
Thucydides (864 D(B))
27 Mar 08 UTC
Won (36%)
Braveheart (2408 D(S))
28 Mar 08 UTC
Won 36% too.

One thing I noted from looking at people's stats is the lack of % draws. I haven't had any... though should have had one if i hadn't missed a turn after 2 years of stalemates.

I think this must be a function of people being less cautious (easy to be gun-ho when you're playing several games at the same time), people going into CD which makes building grand alliances harder and also the points system.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
28 Mar 08 UTC
Also, draws have only been on the site for a few weeks, admittedly now quite a few.
Just to give him some credit before this thread finishes (and since I never see him on the forum):
opripom - Won: 14 ( 56% )
sean (3490 D(B))
30 Mar 08 UTC
making a clean new thread.so far we have

# Defeated: 4% - Cgwhite
# Won: 56% - opripom
# Drawn: 12% alamothe
# Survived: 58% - Dawyn (true to his name)

if you have a better ( higher won/drawn/survived or lower defeated ) stat please post here, please post ONLY the stat that is better and not all your stats.

figlesquidge (2131 D)

I always thought rate, but we'll have to ask him. Infact, I'm going to form a thread on it!
alamothe (3367 D(B))
30 Mar 08 UTC
it should be rah-eet
Thucydides (864 D(B))
30 Mar 08 UTC
lol i was joking but ra'it sounds a lot cooler than rate. lol. but maybe it actually is pronounced that way.
Rait (10151 D(S))

Iraq- The Beginning of Americas end.
America used false pretense to drag Uk, Australia, and other Nations into a war that should never have happened. Now, with the fall in Americas economy and an admission of guilt by the American government, i am PROUD to see America on its decline. Another power or rather Powers, will be the European Union, and China and India... America a distant 5th, behind Russia. About time their arrogance pays off lol...

WTA's and draws
If people can enter WTA games, play spoiling tactics where they have no chance of winning, and still walk out with points because some suckers agreed a draw with them... doesn't that defeat the whole point of WTA? (More inside)

Attention Kestas...potential bug?
Sorry to trouble you but something strange has happened in one of my games...Im sure someone will explain why it is not a bug but in the game Qing Shi Hwang I moved from West Med to GOL supported by Spain. Italy's fleet in GOL does not appear to be supported and he cannot break my support so I dont understand why it has resulted in a stand-off
If you have time I would appreciate it if you could either tell me why not or put this right
Thanks a lot

WTA games progress report
Im interested in hearing how people are finding the Winner takes all games. have any winding down/ finished yet?

well how did it work out? im worried that the little guys (1,2, 3 sc) when they see somebody nearing 18sc and they are far away from the front line that they might just give up. or has it had a good effect and people are really coming together to stop the winner (more so that the regular games)

in this game: http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3100, I am England and I accidentally took over, but I dont care as it was only 10D, but the only problem is that Russia setted up his last 17-18 SC move for 3 years just to boost it up from 17-24, that is absoulutely pathetic
