"The Trial of Henry Kissinger"...What Do Those Who Actually KNOW About This Man Think?
Currently watching the documentary-version of the book "The Trials of Henry Kissinger" by Christopher Hitchens--boy, he seems to be coming up a lot with me lately, first his debates on FOX and then his news articles--and it's intriuged me, and since we CLEARLY have no shortage of political pundits online, I thought I'd ask those who might actually KNOW of this man and these issues already...Kissinger--what's your opinion, diplomatic hero or war criminal?

Attention hardcopy book fans:
Borders is going out of business, and all remaining stores will start liquidating this Friday. This makes me sad, since they're the second major corporate HQ in Ann Arbor to close in the last five years, we're literally U of M and nothing else at this point.

Someone Wants To Know.
So I was walking around my school (because that's what I do in the summer) and this nerdy girl game up to me (because she also likes to go to school in the summer) and asked me (because everyone values my opinion very highly at my school) if people had wings, could they fly. Not knowing that she was serious and had been aparently contemplating this all summer, I laughed and hurt her feelings.

But now I'm wondering....

Interesting hypothetical question/situation

Lol. Is this a philosophical question?
Let's say that the last 5 years of my life have been a dream, and tomorrow I wake up and find myself as a 9 year-old in between 4th and 5th grade. And let's say that I remember as much about the dream as I actually do remember about the past 5 years of my life.
Now, there are a lot of differences between me as a 9 year-old and me now, as a 14 year-old. For one thing, my asperger's syndrome was a lot more severe back then, I had some bug anger problems back then, and I believed that pre-marital sex was sinful back then. Now, my asperger's syndrome is pretty mild, my anger problems are almost gone, and I believe that pre-marital sex is not sinful. There are many other differences as well, of course.
So my question is, when I wake up from this hypothetical dream, will I act like my 9 year-old self, my 14 year-old self, or somewhere in between?

I have the pleasure of remembering my dreams almost every morning. They are often very detailed and can sometimes have very elaborate and cohesive plots. However, once I wake up, other than giving me a little chuckle in the morning, they don't affect how I live me life. I don't see how this would be any different.

14 year old self. Your mental state, as per the problem is held to contiune. The increased serveity would affect you as much as a flare up would affect you now, thinking pre-marital sex is sinful would require you to not remember you hold an unsinful postion and you clearly recall that or you would currently hold the belief and your anger problems I assume are something you've grow to control. That said, if you truely wake up, the dream will give nine year old you a headache and soon your biology will repress the momories. One day as a fourteen year old in a nine year olds body, then back to normal. Heck, it may have happen, hence your curiousity. O.o
Tabanese (445 D)

Basically, mental states are dependant upon biology. As Abgemacht alluded to.
Hmmm.... on the subject of the my pre-marital sex belief, do you think my nine year-old self would go over the logical and biblical arguments of the belief that pre-marital sex is fine (which he would remember), and perhaps change his mind, or would he just push that belief out as crazy and go on his merry way?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

First, I'll say that I had no opinion on pre-marital sex when I was 9, but that's a different topic.

There's a difference between actually processing information and just feelings as though you've processed it and it can be very hard to tell the difference in a dream.

For instance, I once had a dream in which I was in a foreign city and yet I could read and understand the language. Did I learn the language in my dream and then forget it when I woke up? No. My brain was just telling me that I understood what was happening. Similarly, if you were dreaming now, when you woke up, you'd find that you didn't actually have an argument for pre-marital sex, you'd only have had your brain telling you you had one.

Since this dream has been temporally very long I suspect that your 14 year old state of mind would persist for a time, maybe even a day or two, but would quickly be superseded by your real life.

however given that i think you have no experienced this kind of "long dream" before i imagine you may begin to question what parts of your life are dreamt and which parts are real.

in short you would become a skeptic like me. welcome.

Also how dare you fucking presume that your hypothetical is interesting

ugh you disgust me you fucking prick

ugh
ugh
ugh

[for krellin: jk]
@thucy (first post): interesting. I would be a sceptic myself, except that I choose to believe and have faith, even though I fully acknwledge that nothing is 100% certain.

@thucy (second post): +1 for Thucy, -1 for Krellin

@abge: Yes that makes sense. Like for example, the math I learned last year (algebra 2) would have been completely made up in my dream, because my 9 year-old mind has no idea how to do algebra 2.

Is being a spiteful codependent dictator a legitimate strategy?
I appreciate that you aren't supposed to hold grudges. However, is being honorable a legitimate strategy. I would seem to be in a person's interest to be trusted. Since at the high levels people know each other, am I cheating by not betraying my allies?

High GR, semi high pot game?
I'd like to establish one game with people I haven't played much with. I'd prefer those with high GR, but the final roll-call will be up to me. I'm only establishing one game here. If there are extra's, you guys can form more. If you really want me there, I'll see what I can do.

Woodrow Wilson
So I read about this Woodrow Wilson variant, where in true League of Nations style all negotiation happens in public press exclusively. I must admit I am intrigued by this, mostly because I have no idea how to backstab people this way. ;)
