The highschool diplomacy players
Yes i am in highschool and would be interested in perhaps playing an all highschool player diplomacy game. Perhaps we can come up with some funky way of playing like our talking has to be in pig latin or somethin. Probably not something stupid like that though.

how to open a ganes diplomatic channels
Just finished a game recently And want people to know how NOT to start off a relationship. You do NT make demands and tell people where to move. For example if I'm France I do not go to Germany you move here and there. Its very annoying and is not smart This demand things like that of people

End Game
I just want to see some of the community's freaky endings and hear the stories behind them.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=35176
I was Germany, allied with France. We killed England,Russia, and Italy fast.Then Austria becomes a challenge over who gets what. That's when I find out he's been allied with Turkey all this time, So I send my fleets at France, my armies at both of them, and try to stalemate. I end up in a draw, Turkey and France had combined 21 SCs to my 13 SCs.

this one time i was austria and got driven to greece, my last SC. I saw the game was about to end so I was inspired to hang on and not accept defeat. I convinced someone to convoy me to Naples. In hindsight i have no idea how.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
05 Aug 10 UTC
Oh yeah and it was spiced up by the fact that the one who convoyed me to Naples was Italy himself... lol. And I had control of Portugal at one point... just a weird game overall. They don't make em like that anymore.

The game's made even weirder by the fact you can't see the units!

Wow, Thucy, that's oldie, back when we had the "ghost/stealth" units rule, right? ;-)

It's also pretty weird how France won with 15 SCs and 15 units

Thucydides (864 D(B))

Lol that was an old game... my second overall game... and after Kestas did an update you can't see the units in games past a certain point.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
05 Aug 10 UTC
Additionally it only looks like France had 15 only.

He had 15 *units* which a long time ago was how you were measured, not by SCs but by units.

He actually has 18 SCs but I guess it says he has 15 because of a programming error or something.

Lol. That game is from January 2008 I think.
yebellz (729 D(G))
05 Aug 10 UTC
Oh ok, that makes sense. He had 18 SCs but only 15 units at the time of his victory, and then with all the changes in how data is stored, it now says 15 units and 15 SCs. I guess this still must have been after the when where victory conditions were changed from unit count to SC count.

I remember back when you won when you built your 18th unit and could have as many SCs as you wanted. A player could conquer the entire map before winning provided that he or she hadn't build the 18th unit yet.

Here's an oldie that ended in Feb 1st, 2007 and its only the 178th game created on this website
gameID=178
figles "won" and could have kept on taking more SCs but decided to end it by building.

I didn't know you were such an old user yebellz... lol. I took you for a "joined in 2010" type. Nice.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Look close at Figle's win and you can see that the data conversion says his SCs are only 19 when they are actually significantly more (24 in all). It also says Italy had 1 SC when he had 2.
yebellz (729 D(G))
05 Aug 10 UTC
@Draug: Right. I slightly misremembered when I typed my last post. I went back and looked at the press that I had with him. Here is what I can infer after having seen that press again:

Basically he had "won" (taking his 18th SC) at least a couple of years before the game officially ended, but couldn't build up to his 18th as quickly because his home SCs were partially blocked by his own units and he already had a small backlog of unused builds. So we did have to play on for a little bit longer in order for him to officially win. I didn't really mind him taking more SCs, even off me, since he had technically already won. I actually encouraged him to go for the entire map (just because it would look cool), but he decided to just end it, partly because he thought the remaining players deserved to survive. He even asked me at the end not to eliminate Italy, which I was fine with.

Wow, reading that press was quite a time capsule. It really takes me back.

@Thucy: I joined in Jan 2007, but I was gone from the website for quite a long time. I only played in 3 games, before leaving in early March 2007. Back in the day, with all of the bugs and incorrect implementation of the rules (i.e. support moves didn't work for convoys, support holds didn't work for units giving support or convoying), I got a little fed up and took a 3+ year hiatus. I came back around May of 2010, so I guess maybe I am more like a "joined in 2010" type. I'm really quite pleased with all of the improvements, the awesome community, and the full compliance with the DATC.

I just noticed something funny. For really old games, at least my first 3:
gameID=212
gameID=178
gameID=176
the "Finished" date is actually the started on date (I can tell from looking at the press). Therefore, my first gameID=176 is actually listed as "finished" on 3 days before I joined, whereas in reality it didn't end until mid February at least. I had picked that one up off a CD. I also picked up gameID=178 off a CD, but I think I had played gameID=212 from the beginning.
