Help me choose the default variants
A poll is running on forum.webdiplomacy.net to select the default 3 variants which will run here and be included by default with webdip:
http://forum.webdiplomacy.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=463

Voting does require a forum.webdiplomacy.net account, but the poll runs for 14 days and at the end of it if enough votes have been gathered the top 3 will be added as default variants to webDip.

Winning from having one unit!
I don't normally like to blow my own horn, mostly down to the fact I'm still pretty new and there are a lot of v.good players here.
But I think this is pretty awesome:

Wow! That is one amazing game! Especially that convoy! Nice comeback! Great game!
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
05 Feb 10 UTC
Damn, that is impressive indeed. I can't really even wrap my head around it, you were down to one unit TWICE. I also can't figure out why England was more interested in that convoy than winning, but I'm confident you played a large role in that, well done.
jimgov (219 D(B))
05 Feb 10 UTC
Wow. It didn't hurt your cause that a 16 SC England did not turn in moves in spring 1912, but you get an A+ for perseverance.
Parallelopiped (691 D)
05 Feb 10 UTC
Clearly a set up by England who could have won at any point from 1907 onwards.

I agree Parallelopiped- England could have one many times, but he was for some reason insanely nice. Lucky I didin't have that problem.....
SEcki (1171 D)

Sorry, but I see many NMRs in that game, many tactical blow ups and in the end unsound moves by England. Nice blow that you survived, but personally (just imo) that opening moves deserved nothing more than a severe beating by England and France - which they almost did.

So we have England that was interested to show off a large convoy than to win the game. I admit that I am not impressed. I've seen far better games of diplomacy.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
05 Feb 10 UTC
oh again the with opening moves hype.

its important but not that important. NMR is part of the game.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

well played by the way many people fall into despair, especially after being beaten back a second time

Moral of the story - NEVER give up! Well done.
Well played by England...he's good at winning other people games I see.

As long as there is injustice, whenever a Targathian baby cries out, wherever a distress signal sounds among the stars, we'll be there. This fine ship, this fine crew. Never give up... and never surrender.

Nice work. Perseverance. What an insane convoy!? England!? WTF? I do agree that opening was very dodgy though, but you won in the end, and what else matters?
Sendler (418 D)
06 Feb 10 UTC
Nice game, but maybe England preferred the insane convoy. I mean the pot was only 54, some people might have different goals, like one time insane convoy ;)
Just like some people won't care if they lose a poker game, if they had a royal flush in that game ;)
Ursa (1617 D)

Yeah, it almost seemed like an 18-16 victory where England gave Germany the time to roll over Turkey. Germany took the time indeed - and turned against his master.

Nice ending!

I actually tried that before as Germany and got a triple build. :-) I was just screwin around.
Draugnar (0 DX)

The problem with the German triple build is it normally makes you tall poppy and having so many enemies all around, everyone plows into you at once.

but if u'r russia u must try to convince germany to go for the triple build, and u'll support
SEcki (1171 D)
06 Feb 10 UTC
A German monster might mean trouble to Russia soon, so why should he support it? E/G alliance, E heads for France, Germany builds armies and moves east. Doesn't seem to good for Russia.
Draugnar (0 DX)
06 Feb 10 UTC
It works best if with E/G/I/T as I/T take out A, E hits F, and G hits R.
