You know what? Don't bother. I'll put on my "big boy pants" and deal with it.

I am super pissed, however......

What are you pissed about?

Super pissed, he is super pissed.

Which makes the question even more urgent: what are you super pissed about?

People should stop leaving tournaments over grudges. If you have some issue, deal with it, in your own way. Scream and shout, argue, fight, etc., but quitting makes no sense. Anyone who's played any team sport should be able to deal with such things. If you think something is not ok surely leaving won't help improve it. If you need motivation, try to make the other one leave instead

DonX has done a runner in my game with him as G, which was a little off. Yeah he was getting hammered but no need to run....
flashman (2274 D(G))
27 Nov 09 UTC
I have only left tournaments once, and it was a dispute over the League that led to this happening. I am therefore most interested in hearing Mapleleaf's reasons.

My dispute was not over a grudge but a matter of strict principle; I don't bring grudges to the table.

I not discussed the matter (details) in public either as that would be bad form - I have said enough inside the relevant games. And, accordingly, I have already asked Maple through one of our games to tell me why he left the League. He has not appeared since posting to this Forum though and I fear he has jumped ship.
LanGaidin (1509 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
That would be strange though, as he's been around a while (138 games). It would be hard not have seen every possible scenario and dealt w/ most every personality by now.
flashman (2274 D(G))
27 Nov 09 UTC
He held his own in threads against Sicarius, so his decision is intriguing.
If you are that curious, read the global chat in his league games. It's pretty clear.

cgwhite32 (1465 D)

This was why he left - he said this:

"This was because of some weird mix-up with the pauses. I didn't realize the phase would advance before the game paused, so I had no build orders. I talked to The GhostMaker about it, and he suggested I ask you all for a year of all-holds, so that the builds will come through."

This then failed to materialise as not everyone would agree. In other words, a problem with the pause system made the game advance before the total time had elapsed, and mapleleaf was unable to build.

This also happened in another League game...
Centurian (3257 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
Actually mapleleaf wasnt the one who said that. Everyone agreed to the all hold, but then Maple moved by accident, meaning another full year of all holds would be needed. Then he screwed up his moves. Kind of ridiculous. If it was a problem with the pause system the mods should roll it back.
Geofram (130 D(B))
27 Nov 09 UTC
We had this happen in our league games with a holiday pause and the player that missed his turn took it like a man. You shame the maple leaf name!

Also, you should have kept this in e-mail correspondence, especially since you didn't want to explain the problem, only whine about.
gjdip (1090 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
This is actually an interesting problem: Person A mixes up for whatever reason. Person B tries to help but also mixes up. Person A gets his problem rectified eventually but then Person B seems to mix up again. Should Person B be helped?
flashman (2274 D(G))
27 Nov 09 UTC
Most interesting. Mr Maple has my sympathy.
flashman (2274 D(G))
27 Nov 09 UTC
Centurian: "If it was a problem with the pause system the mods should roll it back."

I could not agree more...
gjdip (1090 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
I am not sure it was a problem with the system but I could be wrong.
LanGaidin (1509 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
Ahh, I see; we had something similar happen in one of my games, where a pause kind of got mussed up. We're still trying to work our way through it, but it's been a wee bit painful to sort out.
Geofram (130 D(B))
27 Nov 09 UTC
The problem as I understand it is that a pause from all players immediately puts the game into the next phase, so that if you don't have orders saved/finalised, you end up with NMR.

In this case, that turn was a build phase, but instead of petitioning to continue the pause and have the game rolled back, the players tried to rectify the situation by all-holding for an entire year. Because that didn't work out, the problem is severely compounded into a point where a roll-back from a moderator would seem unfair to some.

I'm having a hard time finding the specific game of mapleleaf's so I could be mistaken.
gjdip (1090 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
It's this silly thing: gameID=14515

mapleleaf's mistakes had nothing to with the pause system.
Geofram (130 D(B))
27 Nov 09 UTC
I don't see a missed build phase.
Troodonte (3379 D)

Autumn 1906
The pause was voted by the last player before the builds deadline and Turkey didn't input his 2 builds yet and he would still have a lot of time.

Turkey talked to TGM and TGM suggested a year of all hold.
Everybody agreed and guess what mapleleaf said this:

"(To: Global) - Spring 1907: Sure, I'm ok with it.
(To: Global) - Spring 1907: I'm changing all of my orders to holds.
If anybody screws it up, I'm going to be pissed though."

The global chat is available for anyone, so feel free to check it....
He would be PISSED!!!!

Well he was the ONLYONE who didn't hold...
We told him to move back in fall and everything would be ok.,...
He NMR I guess.
In the next here he moved back in spring and hold in fall.
Everybody made all-holds in this 2 years.

I can't understand what's his problem...

gjdip (1090 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
So, you're basically saying that he pissed himself?
Troodonte (3379 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
you can say that :)

same thing happened in a live game of mine today except me ended up with a cancel instead, because turkey wouldn't retreat back to allow germany to get his build

TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
27 Nov 09 UTC
Mapleleaf, as a matter of fact, I've no idea why. I haven't received any correspondence from you indicating that there might be a problem.

Could you PM/email me to let me know what it is, so that I can perhaps try to sort it out.

Thanks,

Ghost.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
28 Nov 09 UTC
Yeah... I'm they guy who talked to Ghost and didn't get to build. Ghost suggested to ask for a year of all holds. I did, and everyone agreed, but maple didn't hold. I figured it was because he was too busy and forgot or something, so we got him to move back. Then I guess he messed up his orders, though I'm not sure what that has to do with the rest of this.

I feel partially responsible for whatever happened to you mapleleaf, please accept my apology.
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
So Ghost (the Gamemaster) suggested this as a solution to a technical problem that meant you couldn't build because the pause advanced early?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
Yes, and since there was universal agreement, it should have gone ahead. Italy made a mistake and didn't all hold, but he moved his units back so that the game could carry on as if the builds hadn't been missed. I'm not sure what problem mapleleaf then had.
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
So how come you suggested it for that game, and in my game you categorically said that to roll back due to a technical fault was unfair and we should just get on with it?

To me, it looks like an identical situation, yet you suggested something different in another game.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
You misrepresent me. I said in both games that if there were universal agreement, then there could be a roll back. In the Premier League, Germany dissented, meaning that there was no such agreement. In this league, they all agreed.
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
Ah, but you acted as Gamemaster in this other game, indicating, as one person said that you were 'the voice of god'. You as gamemaster decided to tell people to hold a turn whilst the problem caused by the pause was sorted out.

You could have done that in the League game - you did not. It is a very different set of circumstances.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
I suggested that Turkey ask for players to agree to all-hold, I did not tell anyone to do anything.
gjdip (1090 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
cgwhite32, read what Thucydides wrote. TGM didn't mandate anything; he suggested the holds and we all agreed. Then some mistakes were made.

Any one of us could have said no and then Turkey would have gotten the short end of the stick.
Troodonte (3379 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
"(To: Global) - Spring 1907: GameMaster: (TheGhostmaker): All holding for a year is fine.
If Italy agrees to it too, then that is the agreement we need."

It's important to ephasise the 'if Italy agrees'... He didn't have to, but he did agree with it.

gjdip (1090 D)
28 Nov 09 UTC
Yeah, that.

Two "Next Phase" clocks running at same time?
When it is near deadline on a game, I see two different "Next Phase" times. The first is only up for a second or two, and is replaced by another which has two extra minutes on it.

But the phase happens at the earlier time, not shown, which is two minutes less than the time shown in the countdown.
