Code update
Updated some code to make things better suited to live games. Now when a game needs to be processed or votes applied it should happen immediately, and should also be able to retry a few times before crashing in the (increasingly common) event of a crash due to server overloading.
But updates mean bugs, so report problems you encounter here.

If you take things personally on this game, you shouldn't play.
Seriously, how many times have games been screwed up because one country won't work with another that stabbed them? I'm in a game like that now, where a country is going to win with pretty much no opposition because one of the others that should've kept him in check decided that he wanted to only fight the person who stabbed them in the beginning.

GameID = 15724 ... Please cancel
Hi. Our game's restarted OK, but we've all agreed to cancel it because we missed a build phase and some of us are exposed. The game's sequence is bollixed up ... We've all entered 'Cancel', but Italy dropped out of the game early and isn't entering anything ...

PLEASE cancel this game .. Thanks! Zontar ...

I was just curious to know the players in this game, since it was canceled. Of course no one forces you to say.

what do you mean? I saw you coming so it's my fault for not bouncing burgundy. why would i care if you attacked me? it's part of the game

I was Russia. =) That was my first live game and it was super intense, but awesome too! =)
I was England....once again I could tell Ottovanbis by his style of play.
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
yeah, i had an inkling you were england.
Don Corleone (277 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Excellent. I've met players who get angry over that sort of thing. Well played, even if things went badly for you. (you couldn't have bounced me out of Burgundy)
:)
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
what's that supposed to mean? "i could tell Ottovanbis by his style of play" diplomacy is all about lying or setting up an environment of deception early. you were the one who took EC first move...
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
did you support in? and once again to SOW I would like to point out the fact that I got blitzed again, even though I made three glaring mistakes tactically in the process and one diplomatically
Don Corleone (277 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
I enjoyed working with you, Spell of Wheels. I like players who don't stab constantly :)
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
you sorta stabbed me DC, just sayin...
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=15725
And I agreed to ally with you and I agreed to move out of the EC. Your response was to come after me. Twice. I expected to bounce that first move to the EC. I was totally prepared to work with you. But you were inconsistent...again.
Don Corleone (277 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
I'd enjoy another game, but not tonight, it's getting late here.
Same here DC. I would have allied the whole game with you. I think WE could have won it :)
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
once again I am surprised why SOW fails to take hold of opportunity for a stab, it may be his one weakness, and he doesn't have many. like I said in the game SOW, you could have had four builds actually right before the bug, you never seem to take full advantage of opportunity, you also failed to have your normal explosive opening. building a fleet in marseilles was pretty stupid i admit
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
austria and italy would have beaten you guys easily
Don Corleone (277 D)

So, if we cancel a game, all record is erased? I ask because I don't have a photographic memory and I'd like to review games.
This game is about alliances. An alliance that is stronger than any other can overcome adversity.
mlholowach (317 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
I don't know, DC had a pretty fortified position...

This was my first live game as well, so that's one reason I was all over the board alliance-wise
A stab should be a rare and deadly thing. I only stab to get the win. I ally to eliminate the competition.
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
yes SOW but the main objective in diplomact is a solo. you know that as much as I do. it seems your main goal is a draw, and a draw is fine once in a while, true masters go for wins. i know i'm not even close to your GR yet, but I'll prove to you how it's done in the future
ag7433 (927 D(S))
22 Nov 09 UTC
@otto: that's not a weakness, that's a strength. It's difficult to win games, easy to draw them. If you save the stab for the end when you've been honest and faithful all game, it can be most effective. SOW is very disciplined.
Don Corleone (277 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
"I would have allied the whole game with you. I think WE could have won it"
"An alliance that is stronger than any other can overcome adversity."

I agree with you completely. I actually would have gone for the two-way draw, though I would have expected you to stab me... I'm one of the few player I know who will accept a two-way.
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
I disagree about the "rare" part, it wasn't deadly for you in this case as you had no other fronts to cover and I was willing to work with you against a common enemy. i could have been used as your puppet ally to finish this game out with you soloing by taking germany, scand, and northern russia easily
Don Corleone (277 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
"yes SOW but the main objective in diplomact is a solo. you know that as much as I do. it seems your main goal is a draw, and a draw is fine once in a while, true masters go for wins."
I disagree: if I get a two-way draw 3 times as often as you win, I think I'm doing better (GR's agree)
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
disciplined or weak?
I don't see drawing as weakness. Others do. If I can solo...I do. If not, then hopefully people will see me a loyal ally that they will want in a game.
mlholowach (317 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
My problem is that I always ally with too many people. Who do you know who to work with from the start? I send out a message to everyone, and it handicaps me. I end up having to stab just a few turns in...
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
it's like sheepshead, sure no scheiding with a partner is nice, but soloing and no points for the opp is much better and the objective. this game is supposed to be played aggressively when possible
mlholowach (317 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Well, he does have lots of points to show for it.
Otto after 2 stabs in 3 years....I wasn't likely to ally again with you. You would have worked with me for maybe 2 years before I was having to defend myself against you....giving someone else, like Austria the win.
Don Corleone (277 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
as to how this game would have played out, we would not have lost. SOW and I were inches from the stalemate line. Whether we won or drew depended on Turkey, Russia, and the stability of austria/italy.
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
mlholowach, here's a hint. the person with the most discussion will most likely be willing to work with you. avoid those with short statements of agreement. you might use a first come first serve basis for allies
mlholowach....that strategy is OK. But never stab your ally that you are going to go the distance with. If you stab your ally....make him bleed.
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Unlikely, SOW, my plans would have gone to the Med if you had worked with me, of course there's no way of you knowing that, without trusting me, I would have been fine having you win the game
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
SOW you could have made Germany "Bleed" big time in one move, you failed to capitalize
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
I did not stab you twice in three years, that is a lie
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
you withheld communications and I assumed we were enemies, I was correct, a preemptive strike/bounce is not a stab, the same could be said of you if this were the case
Don Corleone (277 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Yeah... I saw that move, I was quivering ;)
But apparently I made the right call...
You moved to EC in fall of 1901 after agreeing to work with me. We made up and the next year you went to the Irish Sea...2nd stab.
Otto....Germany would have bled and Austria/Russia would have been sucked up into his territory. It wouldn't have helped get into the middle rounds. Remember it is hard for England to get armies into the continent.
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
the EC move was the only stab, your build in LVP justified my move there, your two fleet builds facing my way were threats enough to warrant the bounce in Irish Sea. You were never willing to work with me and I sensed it right from the beginning and did my best to contain you, if I hadn't made the stupid move to Picardy you wouldn't have looked so good at the end of that game
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Russia was screwed and you know it, Italy was also prepping a stab on Austria. You had plenty of time and your convoys with my help would have been easy
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
You were set up for a good middle game, stop making excuses
I moved LIV to Clyde...because we had made an agreement. You sent the MAO to the Irish Sea and I had to retreat Clyde back to LIV. You retreated from IRI, I think, because Germany started his offensive on you...and you were hoping we could patch things up again. Do you remember advancing to IRI as i was going to CLY?
Otto....let me just say...good game and I'll see you around. You keep playing your way and I'll play mine.
ottovanbis (150 DX)
22 Nov 09 UTC
i didn't want you int English Channel and Irish Sea, I had no idea you were going to CLYDE because you failed to talk to me... I will let this one alone though, good night
