I Could Care Less
There is no reason for anyone to give a cold shoulder when playing a game of diplomacy....ever.

The board is always changing and you never know when things might start looking up or going south.

Well it could be used as a diplomatic tactic, but for the most part, I believe it's a way for people to cope with having been defeated. If they can pretend to be aloof and having not invested much in the game, than their ego can survive undamaged. It's only when you acknowledge that you've tried and have been bested that your ego takes a hit. This is a common phenomenon in all walks of life, not just Diplomacy.

im so tired of playing games where i either get stabbed by someone or i stab someone and they never talk.

or when i know that two people are in an alliance with eachother and i try to talk to either one they both ignore me.

I dont know about anyone else but i find it rude and unnecessary to ignore someone just because your actions arent in any way favorable to them. If you dont find it rude them im positive it annoys the hell outta you no matter what the circumstances are.

i recently played a game where the entire population(save one person) of the game completely ignored me and never once replied to my posts. had i done something wrong i might understand but they didnt even say "hi" or "good luck" back to me. I later found out, from the one person that would talk to me, that 4 of the countries had it out for me from the start and the other two thought that since they were no where near my borders that they didnt care about anything i had to say.

Honestly, it's ok to at least say no or to acknowlegde someones greetings regardless of your relations with them at the time.

I suppose some people don't know what to say. What would you talk about. You can't offer a DMZ since you have already broken it. I suppose "Sorry" is in order but you can't suggest anything else.

Chrisp...
i can understand not talking to someone because you are nearing your end in the game and you are only looking at the game to finalize holds or whatever but thats not what has me all worked up.

im tired of writing to people only to be ignored for no obvious/explained reason. i have played in three games recently where conversations with a neighbor only lasted through autumn of 1901 and from then on it was them attacking me and not responding to messages.

sometimes when i stab someone if i dont need all of their sc's for the win ill help them gain some sc's elsewhere but most of the time they are too bitter to even comprehend the notion of working with me for their own benefit.

also, if you get stabbed in a PPSC game, wouldnt it be in your own interest to keep up talks with the person in the lead in order to possibly work something out?

but like i said its just the concept in gerneral that ticks me off. i can understand that if neither person is trying to ingage in a conversation then there is no reason to, but there is no reason to avoid conversing for any reason.

Yes, but if someone doesn't talk to me, they are my enemy. They are only hurting themselves. Its always worth it to hear someone out.

I routinely try to hash out a deal with someone I've stabbed.
Babak (26982 D(B))

I 2nd WS and cent... it is annoying and childish... no matter what! And there are far too many ppl who take this attitude of: I don't need u now, so I won't talk.

The worst is when someone with over1000 pts acts this way... its so discouraging to think someone so incompetent has been able wrack up points...

I've only just started playing, but I'm already noticing this phenomenon myself. Seems to me these people would be happier playing Risk.
WhiteSammy (132 D)

all i want is a simple yes or no...thats all

it signifies to me that you at least read what i said and made your decision afterwards. it doesnt/shouldnt kill people to let others know the obvious(that they dont want to work with you).

What is the point of playing a game called "diplomacy" if you aren't interested in....errr...diplomacy?

So, if you could care less, then you do care somehwat. The phrease is "I couldn't care less." One of my biggest pet peeves is misused colloquialisms.

or how about "I Don't Give a Rat's Ass"

Actually, I used the variant "Flying Rat's Ass."

oooohhh...inovative

it combines the "when pigs can fly" sarcastic remark with a jab implying that something is less important than the ass of one of the smallest mammals

Irony of ironies... I love in the greater Cincinnati area, known for the Flying Pig Marathon and the only city to have statues of Flying Pigs on the top of riverboat smokestacks at their riverfront park. At least to my knowledge they are the only city to have them.

I just started a game that has more diplomatic activity than I've seen yet. Yeah, it's so much more fun this way.

If you wanna play Risk, play Risk.

MOD: Wrong orders played out
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=9960

In the previous Autumn turn all my units held. I had orders in and Finalized for all my units and they were not to hold. Than in the retreat/disband phase, the wrong unit disbanded. Please investigate.

You may now begin using this thread for your general-purpose rubbish debates. Better to be here than clogging a thread about banning DipperDon.

You know, we may just have our newest set of pointless forum debaters, who may someday join the ranks of such members as Sicarius/Pandora or diplomat1824/[everybody else].

Why didn't the real world turn out like a diplomacy game?
There are several differences between History and Diplomacy:
World war one only started in 1914, Dip games are usually won by then.
All neutrals are conquered in the game while in the War they stayed Neutral.
What factors caused this?

Ghostmaker, League question:
What do we do if one player didn't join on time: Pause the game so he can take over CDItaly and still get 25 hours of diplomacy before the game starts OR draw the game and start a new one so everyone has a chance at any great power?

No retreat!
I find it frustrating when the game stalls waiting for someone to submit a retreat when their only option is to disband. Should this behavior be patched, or does it serve some useful purpose?

The ethics of the 17-17 draw
It seems a lot of people think a 17-17 draw is a fair way to finish a game but while I've never been on the bad end of one it seems to me it's unfair on the other players. What do others think?

With the recent rash of multis...
...maybe it is time to change the penalty. I vote anyone caught and convicted of multi-ing have to pay a 6 month ban for the first offense and a permanent life sentence if caught a second time. Two strikes and your out, no third shot at it.

Site design
I love the way this site is constructed, except for one VERY big aspect. The "take over a country" and "show game" links should NOT be adjacent to each other, especially since there is no ability to cancel a country take-over when it is a mistake.

I would bet most of the tiresome CD takeovers that immediately result in a CD AGAIN from the new player, are the result of new folks accidentally hitting the "take over" when all they want to do is see what the game looks like.
