UN Diplomacy
This is another variant which works good in face to face dip, the cool kids call it ftf. Basically if a player agrees to do or not to do something then a rule is created in regards. For example say England and Germany agree not to occupy the English Channel for 10 years. A new rule is created in the game saying just that, and if for instance England orders a fleet to the channel it is disallowed. The order is invalid and logged as a no move recieved, the cool kids call it nmr. Russia could agree to not build navies in exchange for all the other countries not attacking her for 3 years. Well i think u get the picture. So I open this thread on this variant for your debate.

Wow & Question
Wow, just realized that I became a Diplomat.

I've been really busy these days & I managed to finish all my games so that I don't get CD, but if I must continue to be unable to play any games for another week, will I be banned or penalized?

Tournament Game #1 Finished
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=2132

The players of this game have detemined that the following players will be moving on to the semifinals:
Sirither
SlkySmoothOtter
Rait (james3838 wishes to drop, and has ceded his position to the fourth place player)

I'm not sure whether everyone in this game wants to draw now or play on for fun, so I'll wait for others to post before requesting a draw, but this should help organize the semi-finals.

disappearing armies
I was playing as austria in this game. I had an army in galicia being supported into the ukraine by rumainia. I had another army in vienna, moving to galcia. unfortunately, galicia to ukraine bounced, and that army was forced to retreat. Sevastapol and warsaw were occupied, so the only option was to retreat to bohemia. I then finalize this order, wait a couple minutes, then check back on this game. For some reason, there was no army at bohemia, and I was short a unit. Is this another bug, or am i just doing something wrong =p

Banned Players Points
I know there are now quite a few accounts that have been banned, but haven't been deleted. I assume the reason for this is that deleting them would mean any games that had involved that player wouldn't show up correctly, and so that makes sense. However, I think that all the banned accounts should have their points set to 0, thus keeping them out of the way and indeed the high scores table. (This isn't just me being bitter that I'm just below RTC Cracker, but it was that that reminded me of the point)

Question about Game Interface.
If I made a move and supported it, and the move was successful, is there a way to tell if it was challenged, but overpowered? And if so, by whom? What I mean is if I move Burgundy to Belgium and support with Picardy, but Holland moved in alone, is there a way I can see that after the fact? This is important in one of my games for diplomatic reasons, and the example I used is not the case in question, so in my France games no one be getting worried...

red 'x'
I'm playing a game at the moment (Magic Bunny) and several players have a red 'x' by their name right up until their move is due indicating that they haven't moved. Yet when the orders come through they have moved. How is this possible? Is it a glitch. Or do these other players know something I don't and are able to conceal that fact that they've already placed their move?

Traveler IQ Challenge
I love this game. I always play it whenever I StumbleUpon it. I've found that my knowledge of the Diplomacy board helps me immensely. I'm interested in knowing how the rest of the player's here stack up in their geographical knowledge.

My current highest IQ is 114 (I got lucky, lots of Europe instead of Africa), with my average usually around 110.

It's always the African countries and those small Caribbean and Oceanic islands that get me. Otherwise, I'm always pleasantly surprised at how much geography I know.

Newbie would like to know more
I just came across this website today and I'm waiting for a game that I joined to get started. In the meantime, I'm curious about the basics of how it works. How do you communicate with the other players to talk about alliances, etc.? Is it done via e-mail or is there some type of chat feature? How do you know when it's time for the next season/year - do you just have to keep checking back every so often?

My brother has the board game Diplomacy and we're getting a group together to play it for the first time in a couple weeks. I thought I'd try this out to learn a little more about the game before then. Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.

funny story...
...I accidentally entered my build orders incorrectly, and put fleet at marseilles and army at marseilles instead of fleet at BREST and army at marseilles. Normally I wouldn't bother anyone with this, but it is the first build phase and it could (read: will) have a drastic effect on politics and the battle plans in the game. If it is possible to correct this it would be much appreciated... if not then the bright side is if I lose an SC, I won't have to disband any armies. silver lining? :/
