Move from MAO to Spa sc
Hi everyone!

I got a fleet in Mid-Atlantic Ocean and want to move it to Spain south coast, but in the move drop-down list I can only choose Spain and not specify which coast I want to move to. Naturally I wonder why and how I can specify my move.

Thanks in advance!

Have you ever drawn your own country?
I understand the game of Diplomacy was designed by people in the USA, and still one of the major game community hubs is the USA. Still, I wonder, maybe for some of us, loosing Munich means a little more than a supply center...
I actually happen to live in Budapest, my grandfather was born in Austria-Hungary.
I am not trying to penetrate into RL with this thread, yet it may be good for our hobby to reach out for local communities for the sake of some RL gaming?
At least now you know I will defend Budapest as my last stand, especially when I play the Dual Monarchy, LOL...

An open letter to you guys

If you are one person please stop cheating - if you are two people can I please suggest that you don't play the same game because your meta-gaming is so blatant that it is ruining the game for everyone else.

Thanks

Kestas - pause games
I'm going to be away for the rest of this week without internet access, so would it be possible to put the following two games on pause? I have communicated with the players and most think it is a good idea.

Two accounts one player suspected (Mainestream)
It is suspected that the new game Mainestream has two new players that are controlled by the same person (Jake222 and happyboy111). These accounts submited orders at the same time and were created two minutes apart. What is the proper procedure for verifying the IP's are the same for both players and if so a way to replace one? This game hasn't started yet and don't want to invest time in it if there is going to be cheating.

http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/ traffic rank
I checked on http://www.alexa.com/ a few months ago for our traffic rank. It said they don't have any data for the site because it wasn't in the top 1,000,000. but i checked again today and our rank is 259,303! So, does anyone think we'll reach 200,000?

Is this right?
Autumn 1903, Diplomacy: Your army at Silesia was attacked by the army at Warsaw, but your army at Silesia was supporting an attack against the army at Warsaw and the army at Warsaw has no support, so the army at Warsaw failed.

Autumn 1903, Diplomacy: Your army at Silesia's move support wasn't accepted by the unit which support was being given to.

Autumn 1903, Diplomacy: Your army at Prussia attempted to attack the army at Warsaw, but failed.

Autumn 1903, Diplomacy: Your army at Prussia was attacked by the army at Livonia, but sucessfully defended.

Autumn 1903, Diplomacy: Your fleet at Baltic Sea attempted to attack the army at Livonia, but failed.

Why isn't my army attacking accepting support?

Taking over CD countries
Hi.

How common is it for someone to take over a country in civil disorder? If this happens in your games do you welcome it? Do you do it often yourself? Is there a perception that this is done sometimes by multi-accounting people or stooges?

Just trying to get the lie of the land -- thanks.

Moves not being carried out?
Hi there,

I've been filling in for someone whilst they've been away for 3 days, but I think they may well kill me when they return!!!

He asked that I obviously prolong his moves for as long as possible, so that he doesn't miss too many turns whilst he's away - therefore entered the moves and updated, but did not finalize.

HOWEVER.... In a couple of his games his moves were not processed, and he has been dutifully trounced. Not good - and I doubt if he'll be very happy.

Does anyone (or Kestas) know of any problems in updating moves, and not having them processed?

Thanks

I have never had that happen to me, and I am in the habit of prolonging my moves, and not finalizing. It could be your error... but you'll have to wait for kestas to get back to you
Willigogs (603 D)
26 Jul 07 UTC
Well sure - the worst thing is that it is in fact my error (and I'm not ruling that out), but I had been taking extra, extra care that everything was done as I really didn't want to mess up someone else's games :(

Not happy...
Chrispminis (916 D)

Well if you are sure it is not your error, I'm sure your friend will be understanding.

You say you didn't finalise your moves... wouldn't that mean that your moves weren't implemented?
Willigogs (603 D)
26 Jul 07 UTC
As I understand it you do not need to finalize your moves. As long as you enter them and update them to a point where you COULD finalize, the moves will still be carried out when the due time comes around.
JasonN (179 D)
26 Jul 07 UTC
Is that how it works, Willigogs? Would appreciate clarification on this point, I had been assuming that if I neglected to press "finalize" then my units would stand unordered.
Willigogs (603 D)
26 Jul 07 UTC
Well it has definitely worked in 99% of the times I've done it yes - it's just these 2 occurences of it not actually applying the moves that has me scared of using it again in the future ;)
JasonN (179 D)
26 Jul 07 UTC
Sorry for the tangent, but does the converse apply then? That is, if everybody presses finalize then the orders are carried out immediately rather than counting down the full 24 hour period or whatever?
Willigogs (603 D)
26 Jul 07 UTC
Yeah, if everyone finalizes then the moves are carried out immediately (or within 10 minutes usually).
kestasjk (95 DMod(P))
26 Jul 07 UTC
Any combo boxes that are red haven't been submitted yet, so you have to make sure you've updated your orders the way you want them before leaving.
Also if the finalize button isn't displayed that means one or more of your orders aren't complete (eg support move from A to [ ])

Thanks guys, very helpful.

I didn't know that you could update and it would automatically finalize when 24 hrs are up. Interesting....

Retreats bug?
I am Austria in the game mikes game, URL http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=1433. I attacked turkish bulgaria from serbia, with italian support from greece. The attack succeeded, but then Turkey somehow retreated to serbia. That is illegal according to normal rules, and I have never been able to retreat to the territory that displaced me in any other game. What happened?

Missing maps?
I just joined the game HTTP wars (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=1357) and tried to scroll through all the previous maps to watch how the game had played out. For some reason, maps from Autumn 1905 - Autumn 1909 do not appear to be there. Can anyone else see them?

Unconscionable Actions
After agreeing to a Draw / Tie game the other guy attacks you...this is rather low and i think the person should be publicly shamed.

Backstabbing and all the rest is part of the game (a good part) but this is different in my view.

The player was daniele.

red cross - sign of standoff?
Could you explain something? Sometimes I see a red x on some empty province and/ or body of water. I figured it is the sign that a standoff has just taken place there. But in some cases, when a standoff should have happened, I do not see the red cross.
So what is going on?
Thank you.

Two newbie questions
Hi.

Still in my first game (1902), so the answers to these two questions will probably become clear enough when the fur starts flying.

But anyway: 1) is there any way to tell what actions others have taken once orders are carried out? For example, suppose that the Turkish army in Rumania supports the Russian army in Ukraine in their move to Galicia. But at the last minute the Russian player changes his mind and does not order the move Ukraine -> Galicia. If I am playing as neither Russia nor Turkey, is there any way for me to tell what happened? Let's say I'm Austria and I'd like to know that my Turkish ally is not to be trusted any more.

The reason I ask is that it seems this would be obvious in a face-to-face game, as the orders would all be read out aloud, even the unsuccessful ones. Is this lack of knowledge just an inherent difference in the online version?

Question 2: probably very basic, but let's say I'm playing as England and I have a fleet in Norway. Russia attacks me from St. Petersburg with support from Sweden. At the same time, my German ally in Denmark attacks the Russian army in Sweden. What happens? Is the Russian support effectively cut, and therefore no moves succeed?

OK, what if the situation is similar but the Russian attack comes from Sweden with support from St Petersburg. What now? Does the Russian attack succeed this time?

Thanks for any help.

Dumb Question: Reminders
I'm new to playing Diplomacy, and not excellent about remembering to check every day. Is it possible for the software to send reminder emails about current games (This round has been processed, your next action is due by this time).

Countrys' Win Ratios
I remember an old thread that showed the winning percentages for each power, and I wanted to investigate that topic again. Unfortunately, most of the finished games can't be seen (by me at least) and I wondered if anyone else could access them and figure this out, as it is different from postal Diplomacy numbers.
