Interstellar
I really liked this movie. Of course, the expository sections, wherein astronauts were reminded that light can't escape black holes, were goofy. But I thought it managed to treat ideas like the brevity of human life very effectively, and provocatively. I'm going to be thinking about the movie for a long time. What did you guys think of it?

Interest in Tournaments (no promises)
There hasn't been many non-gunboat (or player-sponsored) tournaments lately. This thread is to gauge the interest in the site of bringing back any of the following tournaments: The World Cup, The Masters, The Leagues. The GFDT is abge's thing, so I won't ask on that.

Protestor Facing 9 Counts of Assaulting Police for Fake Blood

What the article for whatever reason fails to mention is that he is apparently facing 225 years... for... fake blood on a guy in a suit... yeah, okay... that makes sense.

“And so, to assume that Tru's personal beliefs equate to ‘Christian beliefs’ and that therefore my opposition to them equates to opposition to Christianity in general is just plain false and utterly silly.”

I’ve been back over my posts a couple of times and haven’t found any evidence that you could use to make this statement. I never asserted that Tru’s beliefs were synonymous with Christian belief. Nor did I assert that by attacking them you were attacking Christianity. I think that you’re opposed to Christianity because you never pass up an opportunity to slip in “irrational”, “imaginary”, etc. when that would be an entirely separate argument. You force someone who might agree with you to either derail the argument by objecting to them, or to just let them stand in an effort to stay on topic. That is why I think you oppose religion. The unnecessary smearing of it. Which you go on to confirm, here.

“It is true that I feel kind of sorry for anyone who holds irrational beliefs, religious or otherwise, and I think they would be better off with an evidence based belief system.”
It is also why someone, who agrees with you on the political issue, has to go through the painstaking process of separating your anti-religious rhetoric from the actual issue at hand. If your argument is that religion is irrational, Great! Make that argument. I thought the argument here though was whether a University had the right to ban this guy. Which, I agreed they did. Then went on, to whether homosexuals had a right to marry, which I also agree they do. Then became, whether one member of the community was a bigot for holding an opposing view.
All the while, through two threads and a number of pages, only ghug asked him to clarify his views. In that answer, he acknowledged that “man could in fact redefine this term” and went on to talk about how he wouldn’t personally consider it to be valid (never stating that it wouldn’t be legally valid). Therefore he stated his disagreement with it (which everyone tried to acknowledge he had a right to do) but not his political opposition to the movement (which most assumed he’d stated and railed on him for). You, yourself, stated that he was for limiting the rights of homosexuals (that was your coupe de’ gras to show his bigotry) but never once asked him to clarify his position. When I actually asked him, the answer was very much different than you made it out to be. You assumed that because he had an opinion that you didn’t like, that he was actively opposed to a political issue you support. Nobody ever asked him “Would you politically oppose gay marriage?” You railroaded the guy & told him what a disgusting bigot he was because of your preconceived notions, not his. You went on to say you wouldn’t have a problem with him if he weren’t trying to limit the rights of others. I doubt the truthfulness of that statement given your behavior thus far.
“However, as long as their beliefs are benign I really have no problem with them. As for Tru specifically, although ‘I strongly oppose his religious beliefs in regards to homosexuals,’ I'm sure he has many other (religious) beliefs, most of which are likely benign. That is to say, just because he hates gays, doesn't mean he is an entirely detestable person.”

Funny that you never made that distinction until now. We were left to assume that you didn’t mean Christianity while you were railing on with “Whitianity” and such. A problem you tried to co-opt again by specifically mentioning the 50’s and 60’s earlier, but failing to mention that most of the protestors on the Civil rights side were Christian as well. In fact, if you discuss any controversial issue within a nation, with a lot of Christians, then you’ll likely get the same result. Humans being who we are and all. So, you’ll be able to say again and again how the nasty Christians were on the wrong side of this and that all the while ignoring that they were on the right side as well. Like you did about this issue until it suited to you to point it out with the implication that “Christian belief” was all over the map simply because people disagree on some issues. Among a group numbering a couple of billion give or take worldwide, you’d expect differing views. Diversity, I suppose, is a good thing until you see it as something to exploit in your opposition?

@CA

You might want to try and get your head around it that I am not religious. As such the religion of anyone making an argument is completely irrelevant to me. However, I do not accept "because my imaginary friend said so" as a valid argument and when someone uses it I will point out that it is irrational.

Apparently it makes you uncomfortable that I call God imaginary and religious beliefs irrational. Well, that's what I think they are, so deal with it. I also consider love irrational and the Easter bunny imaginary. Those are two lovely things IMO. Maybe that will help you to not read negativity into my every word?

Christians that argue for race segregation and against interracial marriage are racists. And so are non-Christians that argue for those things. See how that has nothing to do with Christianity? I completely agree with you that many Christians were on the right side of history in the civil rights movement, as were many non-Christians. Again, this has nothing to do with Christianity.

My 50's and 60's example was to illustrate how Christians as a group don't agree on anything. This obviously implies that there were Christians on both sides of the issue. It's rather silly therefore, to take from that that I think Christians are racists. No, that's not what I think. I think racists are racists, whether they be Christian or not.

"You ... try to portray it as a weakness in religion such as, “We never agree on anything”."

I rather see disagreement as a strength actually. Stop reading stuff into my texts that I didn't say.

"You shouldn’t want it to be an “us against them” scenario"

I'll decide for myself what I should and should not want. Thank you. I do want it to be an us against them scenario. With us, those tolerant toward homosexuals, and them, anti-gay bigots. Again, this has nothing to do with Christianity.

"I doubt the truthfulness of that statement given your behavior thus far."

I guess that's the heart of the problem here. You read negativity into whatever I say and if that doesn't work you'll just doubt my truthfulness. No wonder that you think so lowly of me.
In the last post you were complaining that I was being too literal and should have seen the you weren't bashing Christianity but just the personal views of one Christian. Now I'm reading things into your posts that you deny saying. Why not just say what you mean; it would help a lot if you'd have taken PE's advice and dropped the negative labeling to begin with. It certainly would engender more confidence in you. I've not expressed any personal animosity toward you and if I've said anything that offends you'll I'll apologize.

Still though, when you say "I wouldn't have any problem with the guy if he weren't trying to limit the rights of others" and then you're shown evidence that he isn't trying to limit the rights of others, but don't acknowledge your error. Then it's pretty obvious that the first statement wasn't sincere.

I do not think lowly of you. I think that you can put together a pretty good argument; that would be a lot better if you didn't lace it with so much garbage.
Kind of ironic that we agree nobody should mistreat homosexuals, but disagree strongly on the treatment of people in general.

Regardless good night.

Seeking Cliche's : Powered Armor
Fellow Webdipstanians...perhaps you saw my earlier teaser thread..."Armor" Perhaps not. Anyway, instead of November write a novel in a month, I"m going to do December (10 days off around Christmas...best month for this plan). My novel -- a "Powered Armor" sci-fi schtick. Humorous take on the powered warrior fighting a pointless war.

Back again, need players
I used to be an active member, but haven't played in over a year. My brother is visiting for thanksgiving and wants to play. It would be great if we could get some players to join us. He played the board game many many years ago, so he's familiar with the game but is new to online play.

Thanks http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=151309

2014 Webdiplomacy Tournament Round 2
Looking for feedback. Ultimately there are two options: starting in a few weeks with the next round's games being setup Saturday, December 6, or waiting until after the holidays. I'm not sure how many are traveling, and I'd hate to see a mass-produced for the end of December, but I would also hate to delay the next round as this one is coming to a close. Thoughts?

Given My Name, Seems Only Fair *I* Should Post This...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOVFvcNfvE I haven't seen these movies in years--I stopped being a fan about the time I joined this site...and gave myself this name, lol--but THAT looks pretty cool. A couple odd things in there, but hey...X-Wings and Tie Fighters again, instead of Whateverplanes from the prequels. Now J.J. Abrams just needs the Millennium Falcon to team up with the USS Enterprise! ;) Thoughts, sci-fi people, on the new Star Wars trailer?

Apple Question
Some of you are techy people, might you be able to help me out?

Apparently my Apple ID is locked because I don't know the answers to my security questions (well, I think I do, but they are apparently wrong) and my rescue email is disabled since I graduated from my high school. Since then, I get notification after notification informing me that I can't access the cloud and now my texts aren't sending. Is this all because of my ID security questions or is something else going on?
