"As for personal experiences, I've talked about it on the forums a while back, and yeah, it's no secret that I haven't had the best interactions with religious people either. But I don't think this has any bearing on my argument, which has nothing to do with my personal experiences."
That is an interesting idea, too assume that personal experiences have no bearing on your world view of a subject. On the contrary I would say that everything that happens to us, good bad & indifferent, helps to shape our view on a subject.
Most people who make sweeping generalisations about a faith or culture or religion may have had very limited experience or communication with this group of people, and that helps to shape their view, albeit possibly quite a shallow and ignorant view.
Conversely people with a lot of interactions with a particular faith or group may hold a similar view, but it won't be based on ignorance, more on anecdotal evidence.
Knowing people doesn't mean you can't hate them the same as if you are just ignorant, because the problem here is with the hater, not the hated.
You can hate Muslims because someone told you they were real bad or because you watch Fox News or Bill Maher, or you can just hate individual Muslims and not Islam as a faith.
What I see a lot of on this forum are attacks on Islam and the Koran as if it is an evil religion, I would suggest than anti-Islamic stance is fueled by religious Christian fundamentalists, 'I say hate the criminal, not his/her religion'.
