Home Ownership
What do you all think of home ownership? I think it's crazy. It's your ticket out of the middle class, you either get rich or poor doing it.

The Scottish Play: Independence for the Scots?
http://news.yahoo.com/supporters-scottish-independence-narrow-poll-lead-first-time-005404318.html
I'm nowhere near well enough informed to comment on whether or not that's a good idea, culturally, financially, or otherwise, so I defer to the British WebDippers--what do you think about this, yea or nay, and are you worried they'll take 12th Doctor with them if they do? (WOW is Capaldi's accent thick!) ;)

Contributing to WebDip is apparently bad
I've made a lot of games his last year and a user named 'vinnylanazzo' joined a lot of them. 'Yanik is back' 'Age of empires' and 'cats' games. Now I got suspected of metagaming so should I just not make games?

Is there interest in a REAL tournament on this site?
Looking at having a real cash buy-in. First, second and third places receive a cash prize, proceeds go to the site. Additional prizes for best country, and a few other notables (best stab, etc.). Maybe getting the site to put an emblem on your profile page (after all, we're paying money) for awards earned.

We need to invent a new sport
Let’s design a new sport that minimizes the need for expensive gear and controversial refereeing. Additionally that players should not end up dead or in the hospital. What shall this sport be?

Per Wikipedia, the source of knowledge:

"Sport (or sports) is all forms of usually competitive physical activity which,[1] through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants, and in some cases, spectators."

Is the goal of the new sport invention to become popular and wildly profitable? Or only a healthy competition for a niche group.
tendmote (100 D(B))
13 Sep 14 UTC
Popularity is a goal, wildly profitable is not. In fact profits should be nearly impossible if it's done right; there should be pretty much no barriers to entry for creating new organizations for this sport.

It should cost almost nothing to play, and the rules should be so clear that ambiguous refereeing becomes a non-factor (as Diplomacy players I think we can all appreciate well-designed rules.) Ideally it would be popular and "viral", spreading healthiness and happiness far and wide. Also non-sexual.

Personally, I would support pro disc golf (because I play) or BaseKetball.
Hacky sack volley-ball:

You'd only need a three foot net & could play it on a tennis court:

No hands
You get three kicks (from different players) to get it back across
Flying Jesters are legal.
four people to a side
Pick up an serve must be done with no hands

Ultimate freesbee, It already exists, but all you want is there.
Paddle Ball

Cross between rowing and American football.

You need a lake and ten canoes (rentals are 5$/hr.)
20 guys (two to a canoe)
(Ideally four buoys and ropes) to delineate the end zones and sidelines

One player (the rower) sits and is primarily responsible for manuvering the canoe
Second player (the thrower :-) is responsible for catching the ball; keeping his balance, tossing the ball, etc.

Once the ball is in play then both players can row to "touch" the canoe w/ the ball. That's considered a tackle.

Kick-off / punt: Hehe, haven't worked that one out yet, but it should be entertaining.

Chess-boxing exists, why not Diplomacy-Boxing? Each negotiation phase lasts 3 minutes in the ring in a 7-way free for all, and then 3 minutes to actually write your orders down.
Oh! another rule for paddle ball:

Mid season you have to switch from canoes to paddle boats to test total body strength.

Then play-off games switch to paddle boats at half time.

Kill a Bum. The Players are not Bums....therefore they do not end up dead. But the Players will scrounge our inner cities and off useless bums that are just leaches upon society. The most awesome kill of the week wins the prize.

Provides pervers amusement for a pervers world. Rids the world of useless, oft-disease-ridden human-vermin that (were we to have the ability to see into the futre possible) would be aborted prior to birth by perverse liberals....so...

Yeah...there it is.

Everyone will watch, despite what all you hypocrites say.

Obiball--

The team with the ball gets to talk incessantly and often incoherently, thus incentivizing the other team to rip the ball away from them football or rugby-style as quickly as possible...

At the end of 2 hours of play, the team who has retained possession the longest gets to win, and serenades the opposing side with pretentious quotations until they scurry away.

Name-drops and famous quotations are worth various points...

Anyone who misquotes, however, is sat down in a penalty box and pelted with rotten fruit for 2 minutes, or else is forced to listen to Obi, Putin, or krellin rant for 2 minutes, whichever the punishment the other side deems a most foul penalty for the previous foul.

In a world already blessed with the Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling and Welsh Bog Snorkeling it's hard to see a need for a new sport.

Still, perhaps there is room for a new sport for women as they have been sadly neglected by the world of sports in the past. I propose Ultimate Dustbowl. A game that can be played in the comfort of your own home in which the aim is to capture the greatest quantity of dust particles in a limited time. A game of skill and agility, combining flexibility with physical strength and a keen eye, incorporating popular elements such as step aerobics. It can be played in competition with neighbours or as a solo discipline.

What could be better?

Are our enemies' enemies' our friends? - The case of IS
So I guess tomorrow (for me as a European it will be tomorrow) Barack Obama will deliver remarks on his anti-IS strategy. (IS is this crazy islamic thing in the Levant). How far should western nations go in allying with IS' enemies, such as Assad in Syria and the Ayatollahs in Iran?

Most supply centers in a single turn?
So recently, I was in a game where I was able to convince someone to give me his 3 home centers, another center, and support me to 3 centers occupied by other nations in a single turn, all so that he would survive the game. I went from 11 centers to 18 all in one turn. Do I was curious, what's the most supply centers everyone has captured in a turn. It would be difficult to do more than 9 I think, but I guess not impossible?

5 min "live" game questions
I'm pretty new to the site and intrigued by the "live" 5 min cycle games. Are they literally 5 minute rounds or is there a lot of pausing? Do people communicate over the messaging system during them? In general, how long of a block of time do you need to set aside to play in them? Thanks in advance, any advice is appreciated.

What has The Internet done to Education?
I don’t have kids, and I was just about out of college when the Internet struck (collecting my first paychecks elsewhere as Netscape went public in 1995), so I have never had any experience with what The Internet has done to education. Do students bother learning facts anymore? Is Google everyone’s external brain? Does anyone know anything? Is everyone a plagiarist? What gives?
