How does one ask a raise without sounding greedy?
This year I'm much more busy than last year so I kind of don't consider it worth it in terms of money to continue teaching some children mathematics for what I used to get paid. I suppose I do enjoy doing it, but for that money I'd rather do other things I suppose..
How do I explain this and ask for a raise, most likely through texting or similar, without sounding greedy?

Joan Rivers
One of the funniest comedians ever, a legendary female figure in the world of comedy and show business in general, and the owner of the funniest screw up in improv history, died at 81 today. RIP

A very funny comic who had a great career. Hard to be sad when someone dies at 81, but since she wasn't slowing down at all she could have had another twenty years like George Burns.

I can't imagine what Putin33 can find to hate about her.

Uhhhhh she very publicly spoke out in favour of the Palestinian Genocide until her foul voice was silenced. Thank God.

Oh dear, a Jewish public figure using her influence in the public. Oh no, she didn't say it nicely? Dearie me, how could Joan Rivers do such a thing?! I couldn't see Joan Rivers saying anything offensive about anyone!
Putin33 (111 D)

She said she's glad all the Palestinian civilians are dead and they deserved to die, bosox. That's indefensible.

But I'm sure a bunch of you will make any criticism of Joan Rivers = anti-semitism.

So predictable and so nauseating.

Putin, I've never tried to defend anything she said. I never will. She said horrible things about Palestine that, despite your past insistence without any evidence, I'd never even come close to saying or defending. I'm just amazed that, after over 70 years of offensive content that would have gotten anyone but a comic kicked out of the public eye, is anyone really surprised about what she said? Does it really shock you that Joan Rivers would say the most extreme and offensive things humanly possible?

All I'm saying, as is written in the OP, is that she was a hilarious comic and an absolute legend and icon in the advancement of women's rights and equality worldwide.
Putin33 (111 D)

No, you're trying to shame everybody into kissing this woman's ass when she gloated over massive civilian casualties in Gaza. We're not allowed to criticize anything this horrible woman said, because you like her.

Lol, this is like the people that criticized Nelson Mandela after he died and called him a terrorist because of his short-lived actions with the ANC when it was a violent group. You're taking one aspect of her life that pretty clearly should not define her given everything else she did and trying to overshadow the rest of her accomplishments and achievements with it.
Putin33 (111 D)

You're comparing Joan Rivers to Nelson Mandela?

Can you be any more absurd right now?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Sep 14 UTC
Holy fucking lord Putin, how do you draw these conclusions?

NO.

I'm comparing *your idiotic analysis of Joan Rivers' legacy* based on a single quote about Palestine to those that overlooked everything Nelson Mandela did because he was involved in the early ANC and took part in the violence.

Mandela would have no credibility if he hadn't fought in the ANC. He has nothing to apologize for for fighting to end apartheid.

Your analogy is stupid.

Mandella is a celebrity jail-bird and former radical. If they hadn't have thrown him in jail and he had continued in his vile ways, he'd be villified by history. Then he's released and does what any variety of people would have done -- it was less Mandella and more lucky guy in the right moment of history -- if he hadn't of done it, someone else would have. Nothing to see here....move along, move along.

Joan Rivers broke through sexist barriers and did things others before her were unable to do. An American Hero.

Joan Rivers wore out her welcome with meanness. I wouldn't wish anyone ill, but people who make a living treating people like shit don't deserve to be remembered well.
Putin33 (111 D)
05 Sep 14 UTC
Now, now, Joan made fun of people with cancer and relatives of people who died in fatal accidents (and she did this for a living), but people like Invictus can't imagine why anybody would hate her, and the bosox's of the world can't imagine why we aren't lining up to kiss her ass.

Her 'humor' was nothing but ridiculing people's appearances, racist jokes, and making fun of people with cancer. Not surprised you find that funny. But I'm going to express reverence for this horrible pile of trash of a human being.

No need for scare quotes around humor. Humor is subjective. You may not have found her funny. Fine. She certainly was a brutal comic. I happen to think that anything can be funny if the joke is well crafted. But you, I gather, would disagree.
Putin33 (111 D)

No it isn't. How can you possibly claim to know what I personally find funny?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
05 Sep 14 UTC
I'm still confused. How did she NOT break barriers for female comics?
Putin33 (111 D)
05 Sep 14 UTC
You claim to be on facebook just to enjoy the knowledge that people you know have ruined their lives.

That's the kind of person you are.

You always leap to the defense of the nasty.
Invictus (240 D)
05 Sep 14 UTC
Blast from the past. Yeah, I like seeing people who were assholes in high school now be fat or have shitty jobs.

Even if you interpret that in the least charitable way possible, it's still a big leap to say I think everything nasty is funny. For one, enjoyment =/= thinking something is funny. And now you're talking about defense of the nasty?

It's hard to follow what you're saying. But what reasoanble argument could you possibly be making, since you're claiming to have perfect knowledge of my personal opinions on humor. You always make it out like you know everything there is to know about everything, but this is a bit much.
Putin33 (111 D)
05 Sep 14 UTC
No you didn't say assholes, you said people who were attractive but that didn't date you. Because you're entitled to sleep with everybody, apparently.

"But what reasoanble argument could you possibly be making, since you're claiming to have perfect knowledge of my personal opinions on humor. "

How much more knowledge is really required, you've been on here as long or longer than I have. I've gotten more than enough exposure to your brand of 'comedy'.

I'm kind of happy of the response to this, ten years ago the victims would be blamed in the media, it seems the message that it's not the victim's fault that they were violated has come across strongly. I think that wouldn't have been the case just 10 years ago

NFL Pick 'em: Pre-Week 1 Prediction Edition!
Week 1 of the 2014-15 NFL Season kicks off on Thursday with the Packers looking to get revenge for the Fail Mary vs. the *grrr* defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks. We'll do the proper Pick 'em when that gets closer, but since we usually do playoff picks before that...this is that. So--your 6 playoff picks in both the AFC and NFC, winners in the Wild Card, Divisional, and Conference Championship rounds, and then, the Super Bowl winner...PICK 'EM! ;)
