Statistical Study

is it possible to take all the games played on webdiplomacy (over 30,000) and do a statisitical study of opening moves, country wins, etc. If we can do it for moneyball, certainly we can do it here.

Is there a game option for a preference list or first come first serve?

Is there a game option for a preference list or first come first serve?I did not see it in the new game options. Getting random countries totally sucks. The first 3 times I got the countries I least wanted - the 4th time my country was ganged up on in the first turn. playdiplomacy.com has both options available for its game.

disabling notices for live games?

this must have been asked before, but is there anyway of disabling the move notices in live games? i don't care as much about the "you lost" or "player x won the game" messages, but what if someone sent me a message while the game was in progress? i might never get it, cause my homepage only displays the last i don't know, 20 messages or something, and those all get filled during the live game. or is there a way of seeing a history of older messages?

Offshore fleet providing support question

If a fleet is providing support to an attacking army, and the fleet in question is attacked, will it still provide support? Example to follow

You haven't specified the fleet and army in question, but the short answer is "maybe".
If the piece A attacking the fleet B is the piece that the fleet is supporting an attack against....then ignore the attack on the fleet. Piece A cannot cut the support if the support is being used to attack piece A.

On the other hand, if the fleet supports an attack on piece C, and Piece A attacks the fleet, that cuts the fleet support.

Spring 1915: French Kiel army attacks Russian Denmark fleet, with support from French North Sea fleet. North Sea supported by two fleets. Russia Denmark fleet, at the same time, is attacking the North Sea with two supports. North Sea battle: 3 attackers, 3 defenders, North Sea stands. Denmark Battle: Denmark attacks North Sea, trying to cut the support of an attack on Denmark. Can't cut a support with the piece that is being "attacked" by the support. Therefore Denmark kicked out 2:1

Den-NSea does *not* cut NSea's support of Kiel-Den. A unit cannot cut support directed against itself without disloding the and thereby moving into the unit being supported.

What Indy said. It might sound confusing though so I'll try to simplify it.

A unit can not cut the support that is against itself. Its still a 2 v 1 confrontation. You'd need an outside unit to cut the support.

I think I got it, thanks! To clarify, if I had attacked the North sea with ANY other unit, the Support from north sea supporting Kiel-Den would have been cut, regardless of how many other units were support holding N Sea... Correct?

Correct. I think if I saw the map correctly you were also in Norwegian Sea? Had you held in Denmark and supported Norwegian to North Sea, that would cut the support. Even though you wouldnt have taken it from the other supports, you'd still cut the support because its an outside unit.

I think that will make sense but I probably sound confusing.
