http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/giants-fan-attacked-at-dodger-stadium-shows-signs-of-brain-damage-doctors-say/2011/04/05/AFFTXnkC_story.html

This is just sad...sad for the poor guy, sad there are jokers who do this, and sad for the whole region of LA County, let alone baseball

Can a fleet capture Spain's supply by being on one coast?
Just as the title asks. Does a fleet capture Spain's supply just from being on the NC or SC?

Volunteer Advisors...
This came up in a thread a few days back, getting advice via PM. The mods aren't against it, so if the community at large accepts it, I say those willing to volunteer to be an advisor sing up here.

http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=54122&msgCountryID=7]

I don't want to see the game wrecked by some douche dropping the game, it's a good position for England and is definitely still in with a good shot

Brief question
Can I support hold a country that is attacking? - as some sort of a backup in case the attack move does not work and the attacking country gets attacked from a different side?

Thank you very much for your help!

Annoying stupid site system!!!
I have just written a long message about the system used for submitting orders. It now appears I have to write a short message & reply to my question myself as the only way to ask my question is in my reply.
How stupid is that?

Why I'm leaving
I have been working my way through the online Dip sites to find the one that is best for me, and have just finished my second game here. I now realize this is not the site for me. For anyone interested, there are good and bad points, but the swinger for me is the Forum terrifies me.

One thing that i think Spyman and others need to reminded of is that the community many years ago was inhabited by little more than 5k people(4k if you don't count Jason). The site was relatively fresh out of the Kestas coding factory and had, if i may say bluntly, some sharp edges that were off-putting to people used to a site format like vBulletin. Not to mention that the VAST majority of the threads being made were by people who wanted a better site.

Literally at least half of the threads were ideas for things that could be implemented and a good chunk of the posts inside were of people who were volunteering to do the work themselves. Now, the other half of the threads on the site were almost always religious, philosophical, or political(elections around the corner) and a very small percentage were of people with rule or order issues.

Also, points had literally JUST been introduced when i joined and the gap between players was minimal(around 200 from #1 to a new guy as myself). In my opinion this put everyone on equal footing and reduced the amount of people who felt the need to belittle those who had fewer points.

All in all, the members of the site were determined to have a better site than playdip and were willing to throw down the hours to make sure it happened. I will also not that the site contained a hell of a lot less self entitled pricks who have had everything else in their live provided for them. The amount of people who post on the forums now a-days have no idea how rough the site used to be. Once threads were knocked off the front page they were pretty much gone for good and there were some coding glitches with orders getting reset or games just flat out disappearing.

I for one must say that i have not put one minute into code for this site nor have i looked at the code(i have donated numerous times to make up for such shortcomings). I would be looking at the matix and would my mind would be melting. However, i appreciate the time and effort that others have put in and can not thank them enough for giving me a free site with a solid community that i can almost always count on to give me a run for my "money".

So...

I thank you guys sincerely,
WhiteSammy

@C_G: Not sure if you're still reading this, but [other than wrong orders which I don't think will ever be added] what would you improve about the site itself (rather than the membership)?

lol sammy i remember a lot of that business.

there were also a lot of "MODS PLEASE DRAW THIS GAME" threads because... well.. mods had to do that back then.

but there are a lot of defaults in games on Oli's site ... I love vdip too, and am there often, but also there is not much talk or "diploming" in a lot of games, which is unfortunate

As for the forums here, when I first joined I just wanted to play diplomacy, period, nothing else. I am 43 and played for many years face to face. I was put off for a week or two by a couple of things in the forum. However, I "learned to love the bomb" and now chuckle regularly at the discourse here, learn a thing or two and agree with Hellalt that it is mainly sarcastic fun, which is good by me

As for playing, I agree that being able to see who has made moves or not is a big difference from a face to face game, but hey, I have gotten used to it

Really? Surely if f2f you notice when someone puts their moves into the hat?

I agree with figle, I used to hover by the hat if I suspected that another player's food run or bathroom break was going to take too long.

Most of the folks I played with wouldn't drop in the hat until the last second anyhow.
Hat?

In face to face games we always agreed the time limit for diplomacy sessions (promptly forgot them) and sat around the table for everyone to say they had their moves in hand. I guess we never trusted one another enough to leave our orders anywhere. Usually we all wrote them donw at the same time once everyone was ready.
