Try it in Chrome and FF and let us know what happens.

Also, reinstall Flash.

IE 9 is hella buggy. I wouldn't recommend using it until it's stable. That being said, it could be a flash issue, and I don't know if IE 9 has extension support, but you might try disabling adblock, if it's on.

I don't want to use Chrome as I am suspicious of Google. I will try Firefox.

Ok, now this is just weird.

I have installed the latest version of Firefox and, for good measure, I reinstalled the latest version of Flash (10.2) again as well.

Then I tried YouTube. I randomly selected a video. It played fine."Woo hoo!" I thought - it's solved.

But I was wrong. I selected a second YouTube video, and the problem is back - black screen but the audio is playing. This is happening for all videos, just as before on IE9, *including* the first video I attempted after installing Firefox, even though that one played ok the first time.

What could be causing this problem?

Try clearing out your cookies/cache and see what happens. But that seems really weird.

I cleared the cache and it worked - it played a video - but only *once*.

That is, it seems that if I close YouTube, clear the cache, and call up YouTube again, it works for one video. But then if I wanted to watch a second video, I would once again need to close YouTube, clear the cache again, and return to YouTube.

Weird. Any ideas?

Try manually blocking cookies from youtube.com and see what happens.

How do I do that?

Depends on your browser. But in the privacy area, where you went to disable cookies, There should be some way of manually blocking cookies from a certain domain.

If you can't figure it out, I'd just google it. That's what I'd have to do anyway to answer your question. ;-)

Ah - sorted. I disabled cookies for YouTube and that solves the problem. I still don't really understand what caused the problem, but it's now kind of fixed.

Yeah sure. I have no idea either. I did a quick google search and didn't really find anything related to what you said.

The only problem I can think that it would cause would be if you have a YouTube account you want to stay logged in to. You shouldn't be able to with cookies disabled.
