Harmony between advanced and underdeveloped countries
So, my last thread I posted was about the great war between USA and China because of exchange rates. I also noted about Japan declaring war against the Yen (china's bill).
This time I want to point out a more long-term subject which we will have to look into as time passes.
"How will we create harmony between advanced and underdeveloped countries?"

CHINA, USA WAR!!
Lately, a sort of war is happening between China and USA based on exchange rates. China has a fixed exchange rate. USA and the international society is pressuring China to change its policy to free changing exchange rates based on imports and exports. USA claims that "Chinese bills should be 40% higher in value than it is now." "This policy is disrupting the balance of the flow of money." ...

Oh man... This sucks...
So I'm in this game and kicking ass. But now the remaining players are going to band together and force me to draw. Good play on their part. No problem with it at all. But I'm so much higher rated in GR, that I'll *lose* GR on anything more than a 4 way draw. We are at 6 right now...

Simple solution. Stop worrying about GR :)
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Oct 10 UTC
I'm not worried about GR. I just think it sucks because I was so much higher rated than even the number two player (President Eden) and even Eden will lose GR if we draw at 6.

maybe you're overrated.
Maybe you shouldn't have made the little yellow engine that could angry. ;P
As he'll lose out too, get together with President Eden to force some of the others out of the game, then draw ... or Stab PE ;-))
He already stabbed me once. >.<
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Oct 10 UTC
Yes. Yes I did. In fact that is why I have 13 SCs instead of 10. But no more about this particular game. I was just commiserating how much being part of the draw sucks when it still costs you GR.
spyman (424 D(G))
12 Oct 10 UTC
I suppose you have to take the good with the bad. There will be times when you draw with players who are far more highly ranked, with a higher payout. Another thing to consider is that you might have won this game. In which case you would also gain (and winning if course is less likely with higher GR players).
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Oct 10 UTC
I still possibly could, but these guys have played well and I feel they deserve the draw despite my desire to finally get a hard earned win not in a League game.
Might have won? It ain't over yet, sadly.
spyman (424 D(G))

figlesquidge (2131 D)

I'm happy to comment since I haven't looked into the game, only read from this thread you have 13ish units & can't get through a draw.
Clearly grew too quickly and became too much of a threat to the others.
Well, actually, he connived shortsighted other players into infighting and letting him solo. >_<
pastoralan (100 D)
15 Oct 10 UTC
You're playing against a bunch of inferior players and you can't manage a 4-year draw? Maybe it isn't the situation that sucks.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
15 Oct 10 UTC
As a general thought, not specific to this game at all, I've often seen one player get big fast, and then everyone else comes together to stop them, and the big player just pushes as far as he or she can and then the game ends in a 5 or 5 country draw.

It seems to me like the big player should give ground to another country so they can partner up with that country or at least make them a threat to the others. Sometimes you have to give up ground to change the dynamics.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
15 Oct 10 UTC
germany getting 6 centers in 1901 almost always results in a three pronged attack from russia, england and france. Which usually results in the threat being removed and germany gone.

Especially if he bounced russia in sweden... a similar occurance in 1903/4 with 12 centers for pretty much anyone may end in a draw. Or better still beat the jerk with 13 and then stab each other for the win...

Also strong russia and strong france might be shit for everyone inbetween, (similarily for western powers and turkey being on the other side) which means i may not be in france's interest to help the others fight russia. Not the case here with a weak france... so i'm just saying...

When this is over, can someone please tell me WTF Italy and Turkey were doing.
Draugnar (0 DX)
15 Oct 10 UTC
Well, I've made it to 17 and they are not in position to stop my getting the 18th center.
Meh. I know the game is ongoing, but I'm conceding defeat to Russia because the rest of the players here refused to pay attention to the Russian threat and actually BELIEVED he would draw at four!

I would gladly tell you what I was doing, just give me a more specific question...
peterwiggin (15158 D)

Seriously? You took over a cd Russia in S1901 and you're going to win in 1907? Either you're really good or your opposition is just pathetic.
Draugnar (0 DX)
15 Oct 10 UTC
I'd like to say the former, but it is probably more the latter.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
15 Oct 10 UTC
I imagine it has something to do with it being a PPSC game. Why try and stop the big guy when you can just try and pick up a few extra centers/points before the big guy wins.
Draugnar (0 DX)
15 Oct 10 UTC
But the irony is, maybe France will have picked up some, but the rest have suffered mroe losses with their in-fighting. Only Turkey/Eden saw the truth.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
15 Oct 10 UTC
@orathaic, if Germany gets 3 builds and E/F/R all gang up on him, then someone is missing an opportunity.

I had a really fun game as Italy where Austria gained 3 centers in 1901 and was at 8 in 1903. Everyone wanted to gang up on him and expected me to as well. I used that to get concessions from Austria as well as inside information on how the others planned on attacking him. I got up to 9 centers shortly after he did. One of my proudest achievements in diplomacy really.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
15 Oct 10 UTC
Well alderian, you have definitely got a point, however could you have not gotten to 9 by taking on austria aswell?

I mean not to dismiss your achievement, but if everyone started feeding your austria information he'd crush them one at a time, no?
Alderian (2425 D(S))
15 Oct 10 UTC
If I had teamed up on Austria, I would have gotten a piece of the pie, but also would have been exposed to England who was getting strong and was working on France. Austria and I kept things pretty stable between us so my back was covered.

And sure, if everyone sided with Austria we would all have been hosed. But I am the one that did take advantage of the situation.

Back to your example of a 6 center Germany after 1 year. As Russia I could see that being useful to have England tied up against Germany so that I can get Scandinavia. Whereas committing against Germany moves my units too far from home while dealing with whatever southern situation is also going on.

Just saying there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Oct 10 UTC
Yeah, Eden and I discussed the fact that we were both in a position where a six way draw cost us GR, which is why manipulating them was so easy. Then Eden just gave up so I decided to get a bit greedy. :-)
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
17 Oct 10 UTC
I can't be the first person to point it out (I haven't read the thread), but if you are getting into a six way draw, you've only actually kicked one ass...
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
17 Oct 10 UTC
* one ass at most, that is
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Oct 10 UTC
Did I say I was kicking asses? And actually, I was kicking an ass (sorry Eden, you're not a literal ass) who had previously kicked another ass with me. It was just a devastating stab.
I can think of some people that would disagree with that assessment of me.

And of course I gave up, the others actually got suckered into that nonsense until it was far too late. I wasn't about to reward their idiocy at your expense.
Draugnar (0 DX)

So, there are a few people who think you are a literal ass?

Mornington Crescent
Anyone fancy a game of Mornington Crescent? I propose the Simplified Version (Stovold’s Defence is still allowable during Forward Triangulation, but Back Doubling may only be attempted after a Northern Approach). Mainline stations are wild.

I'll start conservatively with: Tottenham Court Road.
