People are not supposed to talk about current games on this site, especially if people in the game don't want that kind of thing going on. Suppose I'll leave it at that for the moment, especially since steam is still whistling out my ears, I should hold my tongue a bit better, but oh well...

Whoa hold your horses. Maybe my idea is stupid or tasteless or immoral or wrong somehow and if so, I will definitely back off. THe idea is to have a commentary for this game, like the commentary thread that we have going for several other games.

And yeah, I expect a few snide or witty remarks will be thrown in, since most everyone from #9 GR to #10,000 GR is a jealous wannabe of you guys.

But overall I don'texpect this commentary to be any different thatn all the other commentary threads we've had on this site.

Commenting on a current game is not allowed, though many people on this site waive their right and think it is interesting or fun or educational or whatever. Commenting influences a game and I am adamant about each game I play being about the seven people involved and that game being as anonymous as possible. To be clear, in my opinion it is pretty... bold, to assume it's okay to highjack someone's game and start a thread to comment on it. I assume the mods and Kestas will back me up on this one, but please do correct me if I'm wrong.

If those are the rules, then you're certainly in the right to point that out, but describing it as a "highjack" (--> hijack) is a bit over-the-top. I cannot imagine that the top-eight players on this site are going to require or seek help from the commentators on the sidelines.

I tend to exaggerate a bit when trying to make a point...

I have to back MadMarx on this. The game wasn't advertised as a commentary game. So unless *all* the players agree to turn it into one, you shouldn't comment on an ongoing game. I'll follow the game with great interest but will *not* partake of the metagaming.

It's all relative, I'm sure I'd get crushed at a math nerd game, think I'll stick to diplomacy but thanks for the offer...

I think its a great idea but ill go with MM on this one purely because this game will be a tough one and any external influence may well just push it in another direction. Nice idea though Crazy.

That said, i think it would be a good idea to have a few 'official' commentators to give their opinion in an external EOG when this is done and those involved can add their own 2 pennies worth.

And its now the top 9 as 2 have made their apologies. Hopefully this will get going soon enough.

Typically, any game that has a running commentary has been agreed upon before-hand as a variant, if you will. In general, it is not considered appropriate to discuss on-going games in the Forum. Not that your suggestion warranted MM's outburst, but I'd suggest not having a commentary for this game.

Yeah yeah just let me in the game and I'll back off. Just kidding MM, I'll back off cause I like you so much. No commentary.

Should be a great game! Shame we can't comment, but I think it is up to the players if they wish to have a commentary or not (although since only the 7 players will be privy to the diplomacy and I assume have a firm grasp of the game strategy, I fail to see how outside commentary might influence the game, but that's just me. Especially if commentary is restricted to snide remarks or sledging. lol.)

I guess there is always room for players to make mistakes that might be pointed out to them.

Anyway. Good luck to these top diplomats :)

abgemacht, outbursts can be very fun, raw emotions that can be held against that person for quite some time, which I currently like. This whole #1 rating thing has people confused about me, so it also helps temper people's expections of me since it gets frustrating being set up to fail so much, like when people come to realize the #1 rated guy is just another scrub off the street. BUT, thanks for your input! :-)

Yep, I'm a stick in the mud and won't budge, don't talk about what I'm doing or what my opponents are doing to me, I want to be only influenced by in game press/moves and will be more than happy to deal with the subsequent consequences, good bad or indifferent.

I agree commentary influences the game, I think possibly quite radically. For example if a commentator suggests (as happened in a GR commentator game I'm playing) that a country would be suicidal to stab its partner, it may well swing the balance of that country, as they realize that's the only impartial opinion they have heard. When the commentary works against you its very frustrating, when it works for you, its not great either.

Of course the EOG's will be great, especially with the opinions of those watching. Hopefully everyone will join up, 4 so far...

I know its supposed to be anonymous, but I didnt make it into the game. I got 2 hours notice and as soon as I logged on, well I missed it by maybe 30 minutes. @Crazy. When the next set of GR results come out, ill do another one and having learned a little about setting up a game, ill do it differently next time.

With the exception of 2 players i have no idea who actually joined this game and of course, no idea who is actually who. All the best to those involved.
