Anyone else see this happen?
It's a glitch where during a live game the time left to punch in moves is off. In a current 5 minute live game I'm in it says theres 11 minutes, then it goes down to 6 and goes through

This Time On Philosophy Weekly: What Shall We Strive To Be (Or Not To Be)
On a recent post (where I learned to not criticize a certain singer, She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named) I got into a discussion about the merits of art, and I said that I, personally, think people should strive to become distinct, and titled my ideal people "Artists." So- Plato had, as his vision of Man As He Should Strive To Be, a Philosopher King, Kierkegaard the Knight of Faith, Nietzsche had the Ubermensch, Linus likes the Great Pupkin- what sort of "being" should man, should we try to become?

Practice match for tomorrow
So, I'm playing my first ftf game tomorrow morning against 6 members of the Windy City Weasels, a high-profile Diplomacy Club in Chicago. The guy who's hosting the game just owned some serious stuff at HuskyCon (http://www.huskycon.com/node/7) this weekend so now I need to prep. Who's up for a 50 point live WTA classic with 10 minute phases? I only want people who will talk and not pretend the chat feature doesn't exist. If you have a record of NMRing don't even think about it.

I'm sorry to everyone in this game http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=33783

I NMR'ed the first time because my internet connection was dying. I CD'ed because I needed to do some things before it rained.

What is this damn Java thing
Every 30 seconds or so I keep getting this warning message that these pages require an older version of Java and ask for my permission to continue. It's just about the most annoying thing I've ever encountered in my life, does anybody know how to fix this?

This forum has a thread for everything.
Even if it doesn't matter or has no importance. So, I want this thread to be about what everyone thinks of the job Barack Obama has done leading the US. I want this thread on the forum since there are players from many nations on the forums.

Obama's extreme militarism and efficient further degradation of civil liberties whilst waffling on the issues that his base elected him to focus on make him a fine successor to President Bush.

As this rate he might even end up killing more brown people than the neocons, yo! :)

He's pretty much performed as I expected him to. I was one of the few McCain supporters in the UK, not because I thought McCain would be a superior President (although in all honesty I didn't think there'd be much difference between them), but because I thought he'd be a better friend to Britain. Obama has predictably failed to live up to the high expectations he created for himself, and is being a very average President.

Obama is one of the few great presidents the USA has/had. He faces the big problems without fear and makes even bigger solutions. The economic crisis, health care reform, draw back from Iraque, pushing forward in Afghanistan, the present economic reform and putting BP into responsebility are wonderful examples for a strong will.

He learned from the fight about health care how to keep acting determined in face of lobbiest, right wing media and the strange "teabaggers". I am very impressed, but the nobel price came to easy to him, almost everybody would have done a better job than bush on foreign policies :-)

I never saw a more "independent" president since i guess Kennedy
Dramatically disappointing. I did not volunteer for Mr. Obama and donate to his campaign with the intention that a year and a half into his administration, we'd still have privatized bond rating services, theoretically infinite non-judicial detention of people merely because someone in the executive branch says they're bad people, a gigantic subsidy to AHIP members, or Larry Summers, Timothy Geithner, Ben fucking Bernanke, and other disciples of ur-moron Robert Rubin playing critical roles in the US economy.

I hope you realize I don't mean your a damn fool but I was saying our poliytics are different and that's why its so ridiculous to judge a president in office.

I whole heartedly agree with the cordial giant knife. I didn't expect much difference between Bush and Obama, and he delivered.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

Obama is a puppet president just like his predecessor. Nothing's changed. From bailouts to wars int's the status quo. There's no such thing as change in American politics. It's not a real democracy anymore but a financial dictatorship. The rare earth minerals discovery in Afghanistan recently explain the truth about why Obama is pushing the Afghan war.
centurion1 (1478 D)

Actually ebay if you did further research you would know how overdone the nyt article was and its a load of bullshit.

Iraq was the more winnable of the two wars and quite frankly the more important. Obama was a fool for choosing afghanistan over iraq if in fact he had to *choose*
I was reading "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" by Dr. Seuss to my son last night and could not help laughing out loud as President Obama, BP, some members the Press, and the American Populace came into startling focus.

Is it possible to not be disgusted at politicians sense they hardly seem to care about what the people they represent think about a law?

Inception
I saw it on opening night (have been anticipating it since May). In my opinion, it is definitely the best movie of 2010 so far. The ending is especially spectacularly well done. What did you guys think?

Finally Won!
Yeah, it was a live game and all, but hey, I'm happy to finally win a game on the board. http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=33668#gamePanel

I hereby would like to thank all the great folks on the site for all the tips and just great conversations over the years (don't we all remember those?) and, of course, Nietzsche and Shakespeare, because I wouldn't be me if I didn't mention them. ;)
