Technical Glitch
When i tried to open the home page i got an error message saying line 404 was corrupt and giving me this: home/.mio/webdiplomacy/webdiplomacy.net/lib/html.php, and it stayed after i tried a couple more times

I only copied that part as i put it into Google and it gave me a link to the forums but on a very old page (300 and something). When i then tried to open it again it was fine. Anybody know what this was?

The Most Hilarious In-Game Conversation EVER!
This happened in a live game that just finished. gameID=28817
I'm talking to Italy, I'll post the conversation from the game inside. I think I was being unfairly abused... Until the end that is. By then I just couldn't resist.

Censorship on the Forum...?
I noticed recently a few threads that have gone missing. I believe I have repeatedly seen messages from Mods they they will not be censoring the forum, and nothing in either thread was particularly bad... So what's up?

Small points pickup?
Italy with 7 SCs has left a game that is moving toward a 3- or 4-way draw. It's public press, so you can see how the game has progressed.

Ugh, the situational rules...
If a fleet convoys an army to attack a territory, and there is one unsupported piece in that territory, is it dislodged (as a result of both a fleet and army attack)?
In other words, is a convoy order also an attack order?

Question- what happens when...
A game is outed as having meta-gamers in it, and the Mod says game will be cancelled?
Are points given back? or divided among those that were NOT cheating?

Declaring Victory?
What is the advantage of declaring victory at 18SCs... surely if you have the upper hand and all is going to plan, just start taking more and more until you win the whole pot. Is the fear that if you do that you are likely to lose your grip on victory or something? Whenever I've played with others they declare victory the instant they get 18 SCs, it just seems strange to me

TRADITION!
"And how do we keep our balance? That I cna tell you in one word- TRADITION!" -Tevye from "Fiddler on the Roof." I don't agree with all of them, but I treasure ALL of my Jewish traditions, a link to my past and family (some who, fitting the end of the play, came from Russia, appropriately enough.) What are some of YOUR culture's traditions, and why do you treasure them so?

For me, tops is the language.

Without the "Oy veys" and "L'chaims!" and "Oy gevalts" and so, even just snippets of Yiddish... I don't know, wouldn't feel right. Most folks go "uggghhhhhh...", I go "oyyyy...."

I've been doing that since before I can remember, just picked it up from my grandparents.

It's not so much "oh, man" as "oy vey...", if someone hits their head I'm ALWAYS instantly hearing my grandmother say, from way back, "Oy, did ya hit your kepella?"

So yeah...

Holidays, even just remembering them...

And the FOOD! It just doesn't feel righ around the holiday season without a good batch of latkes (if you've never tried them... ah... I can almost taste my grandmother's, homemade, she learned it from HER mother, and back and back...)

:)

Says right in the title description... "What are some of YOUR culture's traditions, and why do you treasure them so"

Pretty straightfoward there, I thought...

We Americans don't have traditions we have fads.

Erm.

I dunno. I'll have to think about it. Off the top of my head, Texan/American/Anglo-Saxon/Caucasian traditions:

-Rodeo
-Sunday dinners
-Superbowl parties
-Cowboy hats
-Chistmas, Easter, Halloween, etc.
-Classical music
-Sailing
-Democracy
-The American dream?
-Pragmatism
-Western theory of logic (proposition p is either true or false, not both, not neither, not anything else)

I dunno. It's whatever I guess. You can say I'm being too specific but I appreciate these things.
Growing up, every passover and a few other assorted holidays, we would go to my aunt's house in Brooklyn. She lived in a very Jewish high-rise apartment building on Ocean Parkway, and everyone would be cooking for the holiday, so the whole building would be this rich combination of smells coming from everywhere.

When I was 20, I went to my girlfriends grandmothers house in Great Neck, NY for Passover. I walked in, took a deep inhale, smelled and smiled and said 'Ahhh, it smells like Brooklyn.'

For some reason, that wasn't the compliment I thought it would be.

On the bitter cold and frost of a January night, with the stars sparkling overhead in a clear sky, small groups of people, muffled against the chill, process down darkened paths into orchards or to lone apple and pear trees. Some may process in silence, others with as much noise as they can muster. Some may carry torches or burning brands, others drums and shotguns or pots and pans. In each case, one of their number will be carrying a ceramic vessel filled with a steaming brew of beer or cider, carefully trying not to spill it, the steam from the bowl mingling with the cloudy breath of the participants ......

That's the poetic description of wassailing, by the way, and is more or less accurate :). The cheese rolling is also a big one, and the bonfire night carnival season.
