Variant idea: All dark press.
I would like to try a game with all dark press. That is, the country making a comment is not identified by the system. More specific ideas inside.

What is a process cycle?
I have been jumping into some live games and when 7 players join the "game will start on next process cycle" notice comes up. Usually this is no big deal. I just jumped into one that doesn't start for 1:35. When does the process cycle come up?

Avatar the movie
Awesome, simply awesome. I saw it in 2 D first and was so impressed I went back to see it in 3 D. It is fantastic. The 3 D effects extend to the computer displays the characters are using - they have depth too. And what appeared to be "normal" photos on a wall in the 2 D version were given depth too. Amazing!

I can't wait to see this film. I also want to see paranormal activity.

Avatar - yes the effects are truely astounding. I really enjoyed it, and in some ways the simple plot was an advantage. Were the plot to have been intricate and confusing it would have distracted from the true selling point of the film, just as (in my opinion - I know this isn't widely felt!) Heath Ledger made The Joker in the new Batman so charismatic that it overwhelmed the other characters or storylines.

Ill agree with Figle on this one. I wasn't looking forward to seeing it and thought the 3 D would be a waste of time BUT....wow. The 3 D really made it and added and whole new dimension (no pun intended) to immersing the viewer in the action. I would see it again and although the story was a little pants in places, it really does deserve the attention its getting.

I thought that as the 3-D glasses open up a new dimension it sort of drew a prarlel to the story line and the machines the were in to use the avatar. In anycase amazing Movie.

Thanks guys. I was planning to see it, but a friend of mine said I wouldnt like it becasue the plot was too simple. Now I'll go see it this weekend

Visuals: 10/10
Acting: 7/10
Storyline: 5/10
Overall: 10/10
I know they don't add up, but the effect is so powerful you won't care.
Must say I'd be interested to know how Mark Kermode (BBC film critic) reviewed it - if I find out I'll get back to you.

Side point: When I went to see it the cinema was almost completely full by the time me and my friend got in, so the only way we could sit together was if I had a rubbishly broken chair. It had the back section fitted incorrectly, so you had to keep leaning back to keep it from folding you over - By the end my back was so sore! :( *sympathy for Figle* :P

i saw it twice the first weekend - both in 3 D... and agree with all that its well worth it. funny thing - its the first time I've ever had 'assigned seats' in a theater before...

what I will say is that I felt some of the story line was sped up to keep it under 3 hours... personally, I would have made it into a two-part movie or even a trilogy - it had that kind of potential - but I surely can understand why they did not do that as they wanted a wider audience. but like others said, what it lacked in depth, it made up in breadth and in visuals... absolutely see it 3 D or IMAX 3 D if you can... its well worth the extra $1.

What is wrong with a simple plot. Not every movie needs to have complex plot or a have a moral lession to be good.
figlesquidge (2131 D)

Haha, well Avatar certainly has a moral lesson. Indeed, rather than being a subtle undertone its shouted out in almost revolutionary clarity!

Yes but who needs it? Your to occupied just watching the effects.

I've seen it in 3-D and regular-D, and the 3-D is far worse. The best part of the movie is looking at the background and all the nifty details, and when the 3-D focuses for you you can't see the amazingness anywhere near as good. Still the best movie I've seen all year, though.

It's the best movie just because of how beautiful it is, though. I hated the story. The idea of a slavishly anti-technology and anti-industrial plot for a movie which only exists because of the astounding technological advances of our industrial society struck me as stupid and naive. I also always thought of the Navi as aliens and wasn't completely on their side, even though the movie presses on you to do so.

The political heavy-handedness aside I would probably see it a third time just to look at it.

Cameron will be releasing a 'Directors cut' on Blu Ray/ DVD. He stated in an interview that he left about 30- 40 minutes of film out to keep the running time down. That may explain why the plot sped by....I do like a film with a strong story and there are those film snobs who want nothing but a complex, character driven film to stir their souls but sometimes a film comes along that has its flaws and for the visuals alone can really be a brilliant film. Go see it Crazy, its worth it to have seen the film that launched the 3 D genre all over again!

Im looking forward to seeing The Road in a few days, i think that could be a 'best film, of the year' contender as well.

it could have also been nice if it had been a tragedy, where at the end, the three's just neutral and then explodes

Aww i loved Avatar, it's a beautiful film!! and i found it quite easy to oversee the little weaknesses and predictable bits in it. I agree with figle that the storyline was simple to follow - it allowed time to take in all the beautiful effects of this whole new world. Best film of the year i think.

Variant Map Discussions
Where is the best place to go to discuss variant maps, either the variant itself or the implementation? If we're testing out the variant maps, it would make sense to have somewhere to go to discuss issues with the implementation or the variant itself.
