I LOVE hockey! And it's always been The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim/Anaheim Ducks for me!

I liked them since I was a kid (which is basically their whole existence) because they were always so scrappy, it always seemed like they had a few good players (Ruchin! Kariya before he turned traitor! And to complete that line of my youth, my favorite player ever, The Finnish Flash- TEEMU SELANNE!) and then a bunch of just never-say-die players just playing their hearts out, never quiting.

Just like my Mets never quit with Piazza and those great days, and my 49ers never quit with Steve Young or Jeff Garcia at the helm.

And when you are as sick as I was as a kid, Chron's Disease misdiagnosed as Colitis, long weeks in hospitals, a stroke that nearly killed me, seizures, blood transfusions... you tend to like the little guys who never quit.

So they've stayed that way, my Ducks, always having scrappy young wingers (now it's Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf with Selanne) accompanied by hard-hitting defensemen (Scott Niedermeyer, Scott Wisniewski, and our great fighter George Parros) and a young, brick-wall goalie (used to be Guy Hebert back in the day; now it's Giggy, Jean-Sebastian Giguere, but he looks a bit tired, now splitting duty a lot with Jonas Hiller, a new young goalie.)

Big hockey fan here. While I was in Arizona, I loved the Jet coming to town and becoming the Coyotes. Then, I moved to North Carolina, and the 'Canes got this goalie named Ward that can be one of those rare special players in the net. So, with the 'Yotes future in Phoenix in limbo, I have become a Hurricanes fan.

@denis: how can appearing in the final two years running make a team lame? I am not a fan of theirs, but I will still argue that they have been one of the best teams in hockey, on a consistent basis, for longer than any other current team. The pens had to go to the basement to get the draft picks that turned them into a dominant team. The wings never did that.

It's lame because it's not different I like variety and I hate the Wings ;-)

If you like variety, then the "new" NHL is great for you. In the period 1955 -1993 it was much more usual for one or two teams to dominate for periods of 5 years or longer. Take the Stanley cup champs for instance:
Montreal: 5 wins in a row, 1955-56 to 1959-60; 6 wins late 60s/ early 70s, 4 wins in a row, late 70s
Toronto: 4 wins in 60s
Islanders: 5 wins in a row in early 80s
Edmonton: 5 wins in 7 seasons, 1980s

In fact if you look at the champs from 1940 to 1993, only 10 different teams won 53 championships.

Well the recent variety has pleased me and honestly I can't remember before 1999

So who do you expect to see in the finals this year? And what would be a dream final for you?

Might get some laughs here but for a boy in the middle of Oil country I love the Tampa Lighting, Vinny is the best player and you cant go wrong with St. Louis and Stamkos. The best final for me would be Bolts-Flamers because the wife has the hots for Jarome. I would like to cut down all of you guys for liking the teams that you do but I have no room to talk.

I'm a big Flyers fan. I'd like to see Philadelphia-Chicago.

Caps- Canucks wouldbe an interesting match as well how would Luongo do agianst Ovechkin...

Philly doesn't have the goaltending. I'd say Pens for the repeat, maybe Sharks in the final against them.

In recent years I have taken to cheering a little for the Minnesota Wild as a new team I can remember its entire history. But now its the second worst team in the league, only beaten by my beloved leafs. I am cursed.

I've given up on the Sharks. When they got Thornton, I thought they had the makings of a finalist. They look so good on paper, and have done really well in the regular season. They just can't seem to pull it together for the playoffs. Kind of like Ottawa during their "glory days."

While Emery is not among the elite goaltenders, he can play well enough to give the rest of the team the chance to win and steal the occasional game. The offense and defense are certainly among the best. Many of the teams with the elite goaltenders aren't exactly solid in other areas.

If I were to make a less biased prediction, I would have to pick Calgary over Washington.

Any predictions about surprise teams breaking into the postseason? I like Los Angeles' chances. Perhaps they will have the privelege of playing San Jose in the first round.
