whats the diff between the may list and the all time list?

its good to seem new forum posting "regular" members moving up the rankings, look out for Babak and Wizard, but its also odd to see people i have never heard of in the top 10, who is silver wolf?? came out of nowhere, like a ...wolf.

woooo hoooo... I jumped 34 spots =P now to try to keep it hahaha...

wanted to point out:

* Stephan jumped 390 spots into spot #81 with 17 games finished in April...

* cyrius jumped 242 spots to #66 also with 17 game finishes

a few notables new to top100 include bluetom (+59 to #72 w/ 16 total games and only 4 in april), V+ (+43 to #73 w/ 4 games in april), enlitnd99 (+171 to #85 w/ 12 total games and 4 finishes in Apr), and Dunecat (+133 to #97 w/ 16 total games and 7 finishes in Apr).

I think its important not only to note the top players right now- but also those up and coming players who are newer to the community but showing themselves to be quite capable and skilled players.

All time list has the peak ratings of each player. MarekP's peak was actually last summer, for instance, whereas the may list is their rating right now.

It would be interesting to see people's all-time best *rank* value on that table.
I know you say it doesn't, but by observation the longer the rankings have gone on the higher they've got.

figle, as time has gone on two things seem to suggest inflation:

1. TheMasterGamer and Madmarx, and other good new players, haven't yet reached their true ratings, so still rise as if there wasn't inflation.
2. With more players, a position of 100 means more, because you should really look at percentiles.

because i actually do this alot for fun^^^waste of points but i think everyon deserves a fighting end!

I'm afraid its impossible to tell between games where that happens and normal games.

Hey, Ghost, I have a couple of questions (suggetions maybe?):
How do you calculate the All-time?
Is it based a a time-period?
A calendar month?
Could you run it for any 30-day period?
How about if this became a run of consecutive games finished (e.g. 10 games)?
In this regard, can you pull out some other data like consecutive wins/draws, etc.?
I love stats :)

Also, maybe some user vs. user stats - e.g. who played who most, best win-lose ration, etc.?

Not sure what is possible - but if the DB has this info it should be not a lot of work to design some stat reports?

All-time is your best month ever against everyone else's best month ever. No real cilculations involved there.

Yeah, I was wondering a similar thing as Ivo. Is the monthly rating based purely on how well you did on the month, or is it cumulative?
If it is cumulative, how does it differ from the all-time list?

I went up almost 200 places with only one game difference between the lists.


Even with the /17.5 adjustment, this is still too subject to outliers (I didn't even win that game).

The monthly rating is akin to the current points- its based on all your history.

I could run it for a 30 day period, if I knew which games fell in that period, but it wouldn't mean too much with such a small sample.

The All-time list searches for the highest rating ever for each player (regardless of what time in a month it happened etc) and uses that for each player's peak rating.

aoe3, you only gained a tiny amount, and the huge gain in places is due to how many people there are near there.

Yes, it does give outliers, but given that TheMasterGamer has played 60 games and is still persistently increasing from month to month (and so is still underrated), I think we need to have a high rate of change just to keep up with players' skill.

Ghost, I have no problem with the current system - it's perfectly ok - and as I know you're revising it yourself if you see there's something strange - which is perfect - was just asking if you can produce some other stats? :)

With consecutive wins there is a difficulty in that it isn't possible to tell exactly which order games finished in, only the order that they started in (by game ID) and, for the last two or three months, which month they finished in (by comparing the different lists)

I shall be able to have a long look into this kind of thing during my summer break.

a little bit later and the recent draw in my game with flashman, marek and BoG75 would have counted

The Premier League has an average rating of 430.2724436.
League A has an average rating of 291.2812943
League B1 has an average rating of 269.7750629
League B2 has an average rating of 191.8953557

Which means that there are some people in B2 who really excelled themselves last season...

Poor B2. We'll show 'em.
