Not very common, and not approved of. This sort of practice is against the rules, and should be stopped. If someone consistently plays like this they will be banned, but unfortunately there are not currently more minor measures, such as removing points or kicking players from games.

Blue - welcome to the site. Fortunately I can tell you that this kind of gameplay is not the norm here. The majority of members play the game seriously.

On the flip side, there are definitely some people who attempt to take advantage of the game either by playing with friends and establishing unbreakable, pre-set alliances or by creating multiple accounts for themselves. Both of these practices are seriously discouraged and will get a player banned when caught.
