Can one...
take over a country in civil disorder in a game in which one has already been defeated as a different country? If so, how do you take over civil dis countries in private games?

Minor Bugs list
Now that it seems the bigger bugs are over has anyone noticed any wee small ones. here is a few non essential bugs.

1.when only 5 players join a game the system default "CD Germany" player is actually green and represents Italy while "CD Italy " is brown and if you click it you would end up playing Germany.
2. on the sign on page permanently is spelled permeanently.
3. when you convoy an army the sentence reads
The army at "X" move to "Y: via convoy via convoy.

Payment to takeover a CD. Is it a bug?
I think that the payment to take over a CD should equal the payout if the game ended immediately.

Currently, this is not true. Not sure what the current logic is. There is a 10 SC country in CD, where the pot is 1015. The payment is 441. But (1015+441) * 10/34 = 428.24

I believe the calculation should be:

Payment = (SCs * pot) / (34 - SCs)

So that the payment is 423.

Wombat's apology
Dear All,

This is the real Wombat here. I realise that there has been a lot of discussion regarding the game Ng Wang Ho, which people have aparently been accusing of multi accounting or meta gaming etc.

Allow me to explain the situation. When the game started, Russia was quickly eliminated. Italy soon followed and then two main camps formed:
France and England; Turkey, Austria and Germany.

The moves throughout the game were admittedly very suspicious, with Turkey moving to Finland just to support Germnay, etc, but I suppose the strategy was based on a potential WW1 team strategy and also something with which to help thwart Salmaneser as France, who was then at 9 units and about to break through...

What happened next is that I had to go away for 'World individuals 2008, Germany' which is an international competition, and I could not afford to move during the duration of the competition. Knowing this is advance, I asked 3 of my friends to help me check my account occasionally to ensure that I did not miss turns or go CD, which is unfair to the other players of the game.

I chose multiple people to make sure that if one or two of them were busy, someone would aqlways be able to make my moves.

Unfortunately, although thingws have gone basically smoothly in other games, 'NG WANG HO' has a conflict of interest between Germany and Turkey, who both had acess to my account as a result of the above.

What then followed I had no control over, but I would like to apologise for the mess and the suspicion that has arisen over the game, and I would request Kestas if possible to simply redistribute the points out in to all the original players, and if not to simply draw it.

To avoid this kind of confusion again, I will not play in any games with my friends, except in private games.

Thank you and my apologies again.

Wombat [the real one]

How can someone win with 31 SC's? Looks like metagaming to me...
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3115

Turkey moved their units to exactly the right spots for Russia to gain as many SC's as possible. Something doesn't add up. When I was eliminated, Russia and Turkey each had 17 SC's, then, for some reason, Turkey allowed Russia to gain more SC's in this Points Per Supply Center game. Just wondering what others think about this.

Downtime
There was a lot of downtime today; Dreamhost moved one of their clusters and lots of their main servers to a new datacenter, and a router problem went with it, causing ~10 hours of downtime. But games were still processing, because the servers were only inaccessible from the outside, and phpDip runs the process scripts by itself. This means games may have processed before people had a chance to post orders

So this leaves me with 2 choices;
- back up to 7 hours ago (from the time of this post). This will probably mean most games won't have been processed, but people may have a chance to see the results of orders that were entered, and change their orders accordingly
- Carry on; this would be better if there weren't many people who couldn't make orders, as it would result in the fewest problems with people seeing orders etc

Sorry about this, on Dreamhost's behalf, they have been making a lot of mistakes recently but they are the most stable hosting I can afford. In a future update I'll add a feature that'll allow the game processing script to recognize when the server has been down, and stop processing games

I think if you're backing up (which I think would be fairer) you should make it 24 hours, so people who come on at a specific time in the day have an opportunity to enter orders they couldn't enter this morning.

It's not great that some people (such as me!) have seen the orders other people planned, but they should have the opportunity to change theirs as much as I have an opportunity to change mine. And it's fairer that way than some people missing entering orders altogether through reasons beyond their control.

figlesquidge (2131 D)

I think that the general rule should be whenever time is lost the games are rest to 24hrs. In the interests of not crashing the server 24hrs after then, maybe the game should be set to 23hrs + a random number, up to 2hrs - so they don't all process at once?

I'd love to back up, it would make a huge differance.
dangermouse (5551 D)

The problem with backing up is that moves that have been made will be unmade. Opponents will know what your plans were and, in the case of backstabs, react unfortunately. I think adding extra time to the current turn should more than take care of the problem.

I've NOT been able to access the site for over 24 hours, then I enter and see that a round has passed? I lost at least ONE SC that I certainly should've been able to keep, plus I didn't get the chance to make any moves. Back the server up please.

Check my profile, only one game.
lukes924 (1518 D)

I like putting all games up to 24 hours, that works better than having random games be at 40+ hours and take forever to update. And also, some people are going to get jipped when the server goes down, everyone can't be happy, someone might not get moves in and someone might see someones plans, just accept it!

Well... I've got a real life as well, living that paralelled with my online-life, so when the site goes down like this, I can't access and make my moves before it's to late. Sorry for not sitting by the pc around the clock.
Noodlebug (1812 D)
22 Mar 08 UTC
That's a very selfish view XiangYu. It shouldn't matter whether it has affected you or not, what is important is what you believe the fair way to proceed would be. I think it would be fairer to back up than to continue, regardless of whether it is more to the benefit of my enemies or to myself.

Back it up, if needed but one game humility is stuffed. I play turkey with no retreats due but once again another day has been added onto it. Why? My need for no orders is holding up the game! Kestas i know you are busy but pl look?

i agree wth noodle. if its a choice between some people knowing what may happen vs some people missing a turn and losing sc because of it then the former is the better option.

Someone back me up
In the game "le mer de vaches sort merde de vaches" (the only one I'm in) France is accusing me of not supporting his move to Belgium with my fleet in the North Sea for several turns in a row. The problem is that my order does not display on the small map (because it wasn't successful?) It does, however, display on the large map.

I'm posting here because I'd like to get some impartial parties to confirm what I'm saying.

army didn't build
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3039

I, playing as A-H, got the automated "build an army at Bud" message, but got it 2 times. Just to make sure things don't screw up, i un-finalized it and finalized. There we're still 2 identical messages.

Now I don't really care about that, but I have a problem with no army being built. Would the admins kindly fix this?

Draw request - TRIANGLE
ASIA WINS!
Austria and Germany declare victory in the team game triangle against TEAM USA (russia, england, italy ) and TEAM EURO (france , turkey).
but as team games are purely honour bound and not a part of phpdiplomacy (yet!) we will have to call it a draw.

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=2940

germany agrees.
