I’ll go first. Note: I consider myself a novice player. I have probably played less than 30 “complete” games.
1)The best defense is not always a good offense:
I seem to do well in most matches until at least mid-game. I think a weakness of mine is attempting to expand too quickly, leaving myself open to rogue units penetrating and large stabs from allied players. Improving my defense as I am advancing is priority #1 for me.
2) Improving communication in gunboat matches:
I have only just started seriously playing in live gunboat matches, and was trounced quite thoroughly in my initial matches. I have to pay closer attention to what other players builds, movements, and unit placement to decipher their intentions. After being wiped from the map a few times, I am definitely improving. The last two matches were far from error free, but I was able to execute my plan and communicate with other players effectively (
gameID=187101 ,
gameID=187225).
3) Improving overall knowledge of the game:
As stated, I consider myself a novice. I have a rough idea of stalemate lines, game theory, etc. The more I can commit to memory, the more effective I will be.
4) Play more games:
I started playing last January, enjoyed it thoroughly, but had to commit time elsewhere. I ended up not playing a match from March until early December. Even if I get pressed for time again, I will always keep at least one match going (even if the phases are every three days).
