Honestly I think you should just use the webdipmod account to post content like YouTube videos rather than create a separate Google account. The old account is where the Buzz posts were posted and it might be nice to keep everything together.

We aren't using the mod email because I'm not a mod, nor will anyone joining the PR dept in the future. I agree in principle that keeping content together is good, but I'm not too concerned about losing a few deprecated buzz posts.

I don't actually know what zultar's plans for announcing things are, so I'll leave that to him. I was particularly interested in getting the YouTube channel started, so he let me announce that early.

While the Buzz archive may have no practical value, notice that the webdipmod account has 59 followers who will get notified when the first YouTube video gets posted. That's with nothing posted since before Google+ even existed. For comparison, that's more than half the number of followers our 5-year-old and relatively active Twitter account has. Your new Google account has one follower, namely me.

I'm actually suggesting just the opposite. By having a separate email account, it will allow many more people to contribute to the PR team who otherwise would be left out if being a mod was a prerequisite. Creating content for YouTube requires very different skills than being a mod, so why shouldn't they be on different teams?

If it makes you feel better though, I will send out a notification to those 59 followers to make sure they know of the new channel.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that mods be given extra work. I was suggesting that you all could just be given access to the mod account. So of which opposite do you speak? ;-)

@JECE, no non-mod will ever have access to the mod email. We have private conversations with members and we are devoted to keeping that information private from anyone who is not on the moderator team. Additionally we are at the max organization that a gmail can handle. Adding in more people to the inbox and chat would make it pretty much unusable. A decent amount of thought when into whether to separate or incorporate the 2 teams into 1 email. We went with the feasible solution.

Which I think is a reasonable policy. If someone has access to the mod account, they would need to be properly trained as a mod, which doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons. I think this system will work much better.

To clarify, it doesn't make someone in PR to have to be trained as a mod.

This is the opposite of which I spoke. Zultar gave us our own email account so we could do whatever we wanted, independent of the mods. I think it will work out great.
