Fun Stories
For some reasons, whenever I have funny stories to share, I only do it on webdip.

So my wife and I watch some kid shows with my three and a half year old daughter, shows like The Wild Kratts, Wonder Pets, Super Why, The Magic School Bus, etc.
Anyhow, we went to the zoo on Saturday and after a couple of hours of running around, my daughter got tired and threw a tantrum while waiting in line to go see some rodents. So we left with her screaming and yelling.
On the way back, she said she wanted Popsicles for a treat and we said no because she did not behave well. So she continued crying and whining. Then we asked her to calm down and we will talk about it when we get home. We were being serious and trying to explain to her why it wasn't good to throw tantrums and why she should calm down. So then she said, "Only the Wild Kratts will calm me down."
I busted out laughing at the point.

Anyhow, others have interesting and fun stories to share?

So, "SYnapse" is actually your daughter's account? That explains many things.

Well, if Synapse starts posting "Only the Wild Kratts will calm me down," then I guess I must own up to her being my kid.

When my sister was younger, I would watch the shows with her. Little einsteins, dora the explorer, the whole nine yards. I was at my college orientation this past week and a cadet said "come on vamonos" and the entire group broke out singing the dora theme song. goes to show certain things stick with you, even when you are a college student and supposed to be mature lol

I hate Dora. I know that damn theme song. It is such a bad show and so very unrealistic. My wife and I are both researchers with strong science back ground (physics, math, engineering) and we can't stand all the things that are just wrong with that show (and Diego).
I mean if the premise of the show is different, like the Magic School Bus where they have a magic bus, fine, but you can't have gravity behave differently for Dora than a jaguar and a rock.

Math and engineering are science?

Do physicists hate everything or is it just the ones I keep running into?
Math is one of if not the major science.

@ At zultar im laughing so hard because i hate the show too, but the theme song is so catchy. It's like taylor swift. You hear her music and you go "why? who produced this trash" and then you are singing along.

Math is the language of science, and certain branches of engineering require a lot of chemistry and biology, so I would consider them strong science background, but you feel free to disagree.

How is math a science?

Putin, you are derailing my thread. Please go to another thread to argue whether math is a science. I would much prefer to keep this thread a happy one.

Engineering is just applied science. Math is very much a science. I don't know of any scientist who would argue it isn't.

I once got drunk at a pups on the patio at a local bar and explained to the waiter that the dogs had had way too much to drink and weren't paying for any of it.

My grandmother 'accidentally' put my wallet in her bag when she went up to visit her sister in London a couple of weekends ago, the day after I got paid. So I was left without any money, or cards, and couldn't possibly ask for a sub from my boss, for an entire weekend. All very annoying, as I only found out 5 minutes before the bank shut with no possible way of running down there with my passport. Cue surviving on eating at work for an entire weekend.

Anyway, a week later, my bank inexplicably sent me a new debit card (I hadn't requested one and my old one hadn't expired), and I'm just sitting there cursing that they didn't do it a week earlier.

I believe in telling the kids the truth about everything (with the exception of Santa Claus and such). So a year ago my 7 year old asked me :
"Where do baby chickens come from? They arent in the eggs we eat."
So I basically explained to him in kid terms about roosters and hens, eggs and semon, penis's and vagina's. Basically the whole nine yards....figuring it will make it easier when he is older if its out in the open now.
He took it in stride about the chickens but then he asked "What about people babies?" and I said it works the same way...man I wish I had a picture of the look of shocked disgust on his face.
Anyways, about two weeks later he is hanging out with his best friend who happens to be a girl and the other mother overhears my son saying :
"Reagan, we can't get married and have kids. Do you know where kids come from? Boys have a penis and girls have a vagina and to make a baby...." at which point the mother had a freak out :)

Funniest story I have

Some kids are also very opinionated even from an early age. My daughter has always been independent and strong will.

Last night, we were talking about fish or something (I can't remember the details), but she said something that wasn't factually accurate and I explained to her why it was wrong.
She looked at me and in all seriousness said, "Daddy, please don't argue with me."
That made me laugh. They say some of the most ridiculous stuff.
dyager_nh (619 D)

Perhaps if some people begam using "Daddy please dont argue with me" as their default response in half these threads things half our arguements would dissolve.

I agree Zultar, the funniest thing is when your kids repeat a statement like that back at you, and you cant respond back because thats the same statement you make to them. I am sure you have said "Daughter, please dont argue with me" a million times.

Well, I'm on the phone with Bob, and I realize right then and there that I need to return this pair of pants. So, I'm off to the store. So I'm waiting for the subway, It's not coming, so I decided to hoof it through the tunnel. Well, I don't know if I lost track of time - or what, but the next think I knew I slipped - and fell in the mud. Ruining the very pants I was about to return.

Who's Bob? Is he knew?

@Dyager_nh, actually my wife and I don't say "don't argue with me" very often. We encourage our daughter to talk and to explain her feelings and ideas, and we do the same for her and for each other. It is time consuming and a pain in the ass to do, but neither of us is really the "Do it my way because I said so" type of people.

Alright, I'll talk about my kid too :-)

My son had news that he was going to have to share his room (our youngest, also a boy, would be arriving shortly). Thinking it might be nice for the "guys of the house" to fix up what would now be the boys' room, I consulted him at very opportunity. Finally the day came to paint the room (blue). I sent him to bed with his grandmother, and set to work painting. At about 2:00am, I had finished and was too exhausted to properly put everything away. Still, I locked the door to prevent any mishaps. Promptly at 7:00am a knock at my door awakened me. He wanted to see his "new room". I unlocked the door and was treated to the amazement and appreciation of my five year old son. Then the phone rang.

It only takes 3.5 seconds to walk down our hallway.

Yet, I only had time to "Hello, um.... I'll call you back" after seeing my daughter walk down the hallway with a freshly painted nightshirt.

Yes, in 3.5 seconds, my son had helped me paint..... the door, the floor, the window......and his sister.

thus I now always put my tools up after finishing anything.

Just wanted to let everyone know I'll be leaving webdip after all my ongoing games are finished. Some already know, but I wanted to put it out there so everyone knows the reason I am not participating in Mafia or live games any longer.

Good physics interview
I suspect the following interview with eminent cosmologist George Ellis (coauthor with Stephen Hawking of "The Large-Scale Structure of Spacetime") is so good that it will be enjoyed even by those who suspect I am linking it only because of his religious views.

What the hell happened, guys? Is Draug actually gone, or is he just "gone" like usual? Do I need to pretend to miss Fasces? Did we lose anyone else? Is it all 2WL's fault?

A Farewell To Draugnar
This is meant as a farewell to one of my oldest friends on the site. In the over 5 years we knew each other, we played in many games together (when he managed to get above 0 D) and got in countless arguments. He had many flaws and was the single biggest headache to deal with out of anyone while I was a mod, but he will be missed.

Reduced sentence because of large contribution.
I won't pretend that I thought of this out of nowhere, I won't even pretend to be able to objectively judge the situation, but I want to mention an option and a potential policy change that could be better for everyone. It's a compromise. In Draugnar's case, I propose taking his medal and/or keeping him banned for a few months or perhaps even a year as a sentence, but letting him come back after that. He's not like blankflag. He contributed in many ways.

I would like to start a game for new and inexperienced players. I myself do not have much experience and I am still fairly new to this site. I am looking for reliable players who will not abandon or leave the game simply because they're losing. If you are interested, here is the game#: gameID=145096

Didn't seem fair to hijack the Doda 2 thread to talk about a competitor game.

I play LoL, but I'm a newb, just hit level 20. Screenname is Redwardian. Been playing quite a bit this week, as several free champions appeal to me.

UK Webdip Face to Face
So spinning off from Abge's thread. Its been raised before but what are chances of a UK f2f? I think theres enough of us on here. Im Leeds based but spend a lot of time in London and willing to travel all over.

Ive got decent contacts for venues in a couple of cities if we can raise the interest. Thoughts below....
