"Hard Choices" by Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton's new book came out today, June 10. See below for the point of this post.

I am thinking about reading the book, but like anyone with a brain, I'm going to wait until it's been out for a little bit (i.e. cheaper), hopefully before she officially launches her campaign. Out of curiosity, I looked on Amazon, and I was shocked to find that a bunch of people have already bought it and read the 665-page book cover to cover, and written a review. I read some reviews, and I found that there are a bunch of scathing reviews on Amazon In fact, so far, there are 43 customer reviews, 28 of them giving the book 1 star. Some of them are excessively violent and political.

In short, it just occurred to me that far-right conservatives in this country are incredibly fast readers.

The press has had access to it, like all books, for months. I'd like to read it because, despite our political differences, I actually respect what she has accomplished *way* more than Palin. But of course, despite our political differences, I think Jimmy Carter is one of our best former presidents. He sucked in office, but has been a real inspiration since leaving office and I highly respect him, more than W. If Hillary ran, I might consider voting for her after I got a real feel for what she was proposing. Especially if she was still all for getting rid of NAFTA (big irony, she pushed Bill to *pass* that PoS).

Wasn't NAFTA written up by Bush Sr?

I think it's amazing when popular politicians retire and behave accordingly. It's a good health indicator for any democracy.

Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law in November of 1993 and it took effect January of 1994. If he didn't agree with it, why did he sign it?

From about.com

http://useconomy.about.com/od/tradepolicy/p/NAFTA_History.htm

Although it was signed by President Bush, it was a priority of President Clinton's, and its passage is considered one of his first successes. (Source: History.com, NAFTA Signed into Law, December 8, 1993)

It also had heavy bipartisan support and was further supported by Bush Jr, yet it's all Clinton's fault?
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jun 14 UTC
No, it isn't all his fault. I never claimed that. I said it was *ironic* that *Hillary* pushed Bill to sign it and then in her last campaign, she ran on *repealing* it.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jun 14 UTC
And supported by W is not a good thing. Id' rather return to Clinton's high taxes (and higher salaries) than W's mess.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Glad to hear you say that.

Whatever keeps me comfortable. The bankruptcy of the car companies and the banks and the housing market did *not* make me comfortable. High unemployment does *not* make me comfortable (although IT is *much* lower than most other sectors). Now I can't blame all of theose on W or Obama as 9/11 did it's part as well, I can say that I had more discretionary spending money during Clinton than I had during W's time and Obama's first term. Even today, I don't quite have the buying power with the discretionary money I had during Clinton, but part of that is a choice of a nicer home instead of an apartment or condo, and a Mercedes instead of a LeBaron GTC.

I blame Congress and not the president since they could have spent money on building and repairing the country's infrastructure so we have better roads, rails, and ports. It would have created temporary jobs and made it easier for companies to safely ship goods. This would have improved the economy faster.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Jun 14 UTC
@Randomizer - As has been pointed out, this had strong bipartisan support and has generally been considered Clinton's first big victory. If it is his *victory* then he is also to blame for it being shit as well. And it has little to do with the shipping infrastructure and more to do with labor costs. Mexicans work for a fraction of Americans. Hell, minimum wage here is a wealthy income for Mexico. And if shipping were easier and cheaper, even more manufacturing would move overseas or south or anywhere that manufacturing is cheaper.

I'm back! Who wants to kill me?
So, since I'm back and I'm in no games, let's start one. Who wants to welcome me back from surgery by defeating me? I propose a classic game, PPSC, 24-hour phases, and a stake of about 25 D. Who's in?

Yeah....I've changed my view. He's a Patriot. Yes, he committed an illegal act...but sometimes a good man must break the law to do the right thing. Had he worked for Enron, he'd be a hero, a -, and the government would protect him. But when you are blowing the whistle on the government...

Too many topics about Mapleleaf. Let's make another one.
I muted all the threads about mapleleaf and it's like all the drama he's causing vanished. Fascinating how well that worked. (I guess I didn't mute this thread. That would be weird muting your own thread though.)

The poo maple
As I was cleaning my mapleleaf, I discovered it was covered in poo. I got it all over my shorts. When I checked if it did happen, I got it all over my hands. I've washed them 3 times and they still smell like maplepoo.

Please advise.

Since it is quite evident to all that Maplepoo it yet another Canadian that really wishes he weren't, and he has obvious jealousy issue with the US - his desired dwelling place, but that his criminal record (or some such thing) is preventing him from becoming a US citizen, and thus he has taken to rather amusing constant stream of America bashing to try to soothe his saddened soul....let's take up a collection and send old maplepoo the biggest US flag we can find.

An Idea for World Games
Most of my recent games have been World, and I've found that once you get 20+ units, the list of orders can become quite unwieldy. Since you develop different "fronts" involving different sets of units, it'd be really cool to be able to arrange my own units to I could keep all of my South American guerrillas separate from my Mongolian hordes (Inner and regular). Would this be simple/worthwhile to incorporate?
