This is not an apology or a goodbye. This is a statement.
I love the shit here in the forum. I'm almost done with school, so after this post, I am asking goldfinger to amplify me for a period of no less than one year. I feel after all my contributions my posts here deserve to be printed in fontsize+5 (not Arial). I'll use the time to teach you all on conservative values.

Adobe data theft exposes widespread problem of weak passwords
Apparently the most popular password among Adobe users was "123456" - (LINK: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24821528)

What's YOUR WebDip password? Do you have a more secure one than that? Post it here and we'll see if the forum agrees!

Donator Badge
Woo I'm now a first class citizen!

Please consider donating to the site, if you haven't already. The superiority of the badge is definitely worth it.

That is a bronze badge. You are a fourth-class citizen, like me.

The hierarchy is:

1st Class: Kestas
2nd Class: Gold Donator
3rd Class: Silver Donator
4th Class: Bronze Donator
5th Class: Regular user (non-donator)
6th Class: Banned user
7th Class: Mod / Admin Team member

Mods are the 99% man, that's why we occupy webdip.

Jamie, are you the lowest of your potential classes, or the highest? In other words can a mod be a third clad citizen by becoming a silver doner? Or by becoming a mod, does a once third class citizen become a seventh class?
SYnapse (0 DX)
06 Nov 13 UTC
I'd say a Mod that is a Silver Donator is in the same class as a Regular User.

That's impressive SYnapse. In all honesty, congratulations for changing what seems to be a habit of a lifetime to me.

Now start donating to charities!

Just out of curiosity: how much did you donate?

When I was a mod I saw that there is actually a Platinum badge. I was going to award it to myself temporarily to see what it looked like but I didn't see a way to remove badges and it would not have been too subtle.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

"Just out of curiosity: how much did you donate?"

Please don't ask that, Kestas doesn't want the donation levels public, even the admins don't know them.
Nebuchadnezzar (483 D)

No offence anyone, but especially in the forums, the only first class citizens are trolls.

This has never changed for ages. Mods, Admins, and even Kestas come after the trolls. So no body should be disillusioned about their importance here.

Don't ASK THAT?

Please fuck off.

"Just out of curiosity: how much did you donate?"

Who asked that? I dont see it on my thread
Mapu (362 D)

It was the last sentence of steephie's. I have a friend who donated $100 and got gold. I think I remember seeing that from someone else, too.

Oh I have him muted lol

Anyway yeah donations are secret for a reason
krellin (80 DX)
06 Nov 13 UTC
SYnapse - I would think that you would reject the notion of badges outright, as it is a false classification of citizens. There may be people here that are put down and disregarded for their lack of badges who are simply unable to contribute, thus setting up a false dichotomy.
SYnapse (0 DX)
06 Nov 13 UTC
Mods, I've got a complaint.

Despite muting users, I can still read all their forum posts by viewing the home page source code. The rules say:
You can mute any other user which you don't want to see in the forum or get PMs from.
You can mute any forum thread you aren't interested in.
You can mute any country playing in a game with you.

This allows you to block out anyone or any discussion you find offensive

However I cannot block them in fact, can this be addressed?

"...there is actually a Platinum badge. I was going to award it to myself temporarily to see what it looked like..."

It's a gold star. Oli has it over on vDip if you want to see what it looks like.

@SYnapse - That shouldn't be happening... We'll look into it.
Bite.

People always banging on about donating to the forum ..... it makes me mad with rage.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
06 Nov 13 UTC
Could someone just point out to SYnapse that I only congratulated him, and actually have been doing little else to him for quite a while? I even gave him advice, and I'm really not as insulting as he seems to think. What's in a thread stays in a thread if it's up to me. No hard feelings.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
06 Nov 13 UTC
Wait a sec... Why does SYnapse want to look at the site in source code?
Mapu (362 D)
06 Nov 13 UTC
I actually think, based on what Lando and Draug have said about the delay in hiding muted posts and from what Synapse is seeing in the source code that all posts are loaded and javascript hides muted ones to save server processing time/power. So what Synapse is seeing is by design.
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
06 Nov 13 UTC
Ah - I didn't notice the source code part. SYnapse - it's probably best you don't read that if you don't want to see these posts. As Mapu said, it's part of the way the site works and doesn't really need to be changed.

Western Spring (as opposed to Arab Spring)
How long until we really start to get rid of our own tyrants?

Just curious what people think and all... Also trying to have some compassion for the Arabs because right now it's just one of those things happening somewhere in the east for me... It would come much closer if I see what this would mean in the west I suppose... Discuss.

The Future of Western Armed Forces
In Holland, the downward economic spiral has led to massive cuts in defense. I wonder if that shouldn't be preceded by a thorough and nation-wide conversation about this topic, that I believe many countries are currently dealing with. In this thread, we discuss the future of the armed forces.

We should have a triple secret probationary silence on the site.
While the subject is light hearted Animal House sounding, I mean it when I say it. If the system had a way to silence forum posters posts without indicating to them they were silenced (kind of a universal mute) then people like blankflag could be secretly silenced and the good boys and girls of the forum wouldn't have to put up with him trying to come back in under a different name.

NFL Pick 'em: Week 9--Who's Prime for a Trick, Who's Due for a Treat?
If the playoffs were to start today, the Cowboys would be due to play the Niners (yet again) and the Packers would play the Lions in the NFC Wild Card, Saints and Seahawks with byes, while in the AFC, the Colts and Broncos would match-up again and the Patriots would play the Jets (!) as the Bengals (!) and Chiefs (!!!) enjoyed byes. Such is the way the first half has shaken out...so, at the halfway point, Week 9--PICK 'EM!
