I'll write an EOG here later. Thanks for the game everyone. I think it might have been my first time playing with everyone other than King Rishard and uclabb. It was pretty quick and fun. Shame I overplayed my hand and went for the solo too soon. I underestimated how quickly you guys would coordinate.

A couple questions about convoys.
1. Can one fleet convoy two units in one turn? For example, if I have armies in London and Edinburgh, can a fleet in the North Sea convoy them to Holland and Norway, or do I have to choose one?

2. Can a fleet support the army it is convoying?

New Variant Series?
Is anyone interested in creating a league or tourney for the new maps? I just want to play them, but it's hard to find games that aren't anon (because I have friends on this site, I don't wanna be accused for meta).
Or we could just get a couple games going. 5 point bet, at least 1 day phases, either map. Any takers?

*I* Have the Right to Remain Silent (But Sadly I Have the Privilege to Speak)
http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2013/02/constitution.html A friend sent me this...and while I'm really not at all a fan of blogs (way of the future, I know, but they're so self-indulgent, self-aware, and slanted...almost like someone who posts on issues repeatedly in a forum...wait...) and I take issue counting our "rights" by the Bill of Rights...it did get me thinking--what "rights" that people claim to be rights are real, true rights, and which are merely privileges we allow ourselves?

SoW Needs
I have two needs for the SoW: the first is a Russian player in the intermediate game. Russia has not shown up for his takeover position. There'd nothing wrong with the spot and needs to be filled. You would have ample time to talk and get adjusted.
The other is an assistant TA for Turkey in Game 1. The current TA is doing a great job but time zone differences make last minute communication difficult. If you're interested in one or the other or have questions, PM me.

Actually, gavrilop, you *did* make an inference of a resistance within the amred forces when you said this:

"German soldiers did join the resistance against the Nazis though, and that's what Benedict is being compared to. He did not do what others did."

I pointed out that German soldiers after 1942 did *not* join the resistance and that, in factm there was no resistance in Germany after 1942 (read the wiki article I posted). You are not comparing him to his peers of his day but to people from when he was a young teen (15 or younger). In those three years, everything changed. The SS exterminated anyone who even whispered of resistance in Germany. After 1942, there was no resistance. Period. It didn't happen. The hiding of Anne Frank's family was the exception, not part of an organized resistance and even it was over before Benedict turned 18.

But I suppose you will backpedal yet again (went from Nazi coward toi just coward was a backpedal, just to remind you of how you keep backpedalling).

I don't care how much God redeems him. The coward Benedict had power over other humans. And that's why other humans get to comment.

Look gavrilop, I am no fan of Benedict. I think he set the Catholic Church backward by several centuries. But I am still reminded of Matthew 7:3 and John 8:7.
redhouse1938 (429 D)

From the website Draugnar quotes:

"Catholic anger was further fuelled by actions of the Gauleiter of Upper Bavaria, Adolf Wagner, a militantly anti-Catholic Nazi, who in June 1941 ordered the removal of crucifixes from all schools in his Gau. This attack on Catholicism provoked the first public demonstrations against government policy since the Nazis had come to power, and the mass signing of petitions, including by Catholic soldiers serving at the front. "

Incredible isn't it? They let the government invade tiny nations who never did them any harm, kill thousands of innocent people everywhere, but owww don't touch their beloved crosses!

Interesting to see how little has changed.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Well, yeah, Red. What do you expect? Look at they reacted to Luther's Articles of Reformation trying to spark a dialogue and seek truth through prayer and study and end corruption in the RCC. But that was all before Benedict was even a priest.
gavrilop (357 D)

He could have shot a commanding officer in the face. Any soldier could do that. That's just one option. There are any number of things he could have done, violent or not. He could have committed sabotage. He could have smuggled for the Allies. Even if we pretend that it was impossible to resist after 1942, which is bullshit, OK he was 15 then? Still people his age joined the resistance. Willi Graf was 15 when he joined the resistance.

And here's what I said: "The objection that he was not a Nazi coward is noted. I amend it: he was just a fucking coward who served the Nazis and did not do what he could to oppose them."

You want to complain about me explicitly amending my words? That's weird. But I suppose it explains why you won't openly acknowledge your own error.
gavrilop (357 D)
29 May 13 UTC
And holy shit, citing John 8. Nobody's talking about stoning the coward. Just pointing out that he was a coward who made no effort to oppose the greatest evil in recorded history.
Draugnar (0 DX)

"He could have shot a commanding officer in the face."

And promptly been executed by firing squad. Germany had no compunction against summary execution without trial.

As far as John 8. You are casting verbal stones at him. If you can't see the analogy, then I fear for your future as you clearly lack the simple intellect of a 5 year old.

"He could have shot a commanding officer in the face."

Someone who could and would do this should not be Pope. This is unquestionably a far greater sin than wearing a silly uniform and lugging around a few crates of 20mm AA shells.
gavrilop (357 D)
29 May 13 UTC
Yes, he could have risked his life. He did not. And there are other things he could have done too.

OMG, verbal stones. Why, it's a sin to say that anyone is ever unqualified for any position! Your analogy is meaningless shit. The story in John isn't a fucking analogy, it's a polemic against the death penalty, from a society which had public stoning.
gavrilop (357 D)
29 May 13 UTC
Draugnar, I noticed you conveniently ignored how I corrected you on your earlier shitty analogy about primaries. PS, you're judging me by calling me an asshole. You should repent!

"Someone who could and would do this should not be Pope."

Okay, just brainstorming. He could have committed sabotage, or smuggled for the Allies.
gavrilop (357 D)
29 May 13 UTC
In real-world morality, violent resistance against Nazi officers would be a good thing. But I'll accept the stipulated terms of Catholic nonviolent blahdeblah. As long as we're clear that any German soldier who ever fired on an enemy should not be Pope either.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
29 May 13 UTC
"any German soldier who ever fired on an enemy should not be Pope either."

What about an American soldier who ever fired on an enemy?
Or an English soldier?
Or a French soldier?
How about a French soldier who only ever shot at Muslims or Buddhists in France's colonial wars?

Why only German soldiers who fired on the enemy?
gavrilop (357 D)
29 May 13 UTC
If we're talking within the stipulations of Catholicism, some soldiers at some times have been excused because they're fighting "just wars." I dunno, ask a priest. Better yet, read the Catechism. ;)
Octavious (2701 D)

There is a strong argument that says a Pope should never have fired in anger under any circumstances. On a personal note I'd much prefer someone who fires on the enemy than someone who fires on his own comrades. Someone with the right stuff to be Pope, however, should fire on no one. Given the choice between death and acting against God's law the choice should be an easy one. A painfully harsh yardstick to measure a man with, I know, but a Pope should be exceptional.

The original Pope was a coward who denied Jesus three times before running away to hide while his best friend got killed. Jesus redeemed and reinstated him within a month - why can't a coward like Benedict be redeemed in 50 years? Paul was a murderer and church-persecutor and he wrote half the New Testament - but a teenager who shot at bombers that were firebombing his homeland can't be forgiven?

Do you believe in redemption or not? If not, you have no clue whatsoever what the Church - Catholic or otherwise - is about, and your ignorance *does* disqualify you from commenting. Oh, fine, you've got freedom of speech and the statue of liberty and so you can blah blah blah all you want. Go ahead, I won't mute you.

gavrilop (357 D)

Forgive him all you want. He's not fit to be a prominent public figure.

And belief is not the same as understanding. I understand the dogmas just fine. But I didn't say anything about whether he was qualified to go to your happy place when he dies. Everyone rightfully gets to talk about whether behavior is moral and what we should expect from public figures.
