We're not who we appear to be: something good, bad, or indifferent?
The anonymity that is inherent in message boards like this and the consequent increased boldness or recklessness with which most of us are apt to behave as compared to how we would behave in our "real" lives leads me to wonder out loud: at what point, if ever, does this presentation of a sort of alternate personality constitute lying? And if it is a form of lying, does it matter?

captainmeme (1723 DMod)

I can outline the roles we'll be using now (this will be reposted in the new thread):

*************

All players have the ability to vote on who to lynch during the day.

Town Aligned:

All town aligned players win if all mafia members and the serial killer are eliminated, and at least one town aligned player remains.

Vanilla Townie - No special actions.
Doctor - Can select one player to save each night. If anyone attempts to kill this player that night, the attempt fails. The doctor's target is notified that the doctor has selected them, and both the doctor and his target are notified if a kill was blocked by the ability.
Cop - Can select one player to scan each night. The cop will receive a PM at the end of the night saying either 'Innocent' or 'Guilty', depending on whether the player is town-aligned or not. Players with the copscan immunity (the mole and potentially the serial killer) will show as innocent despite being guilty.
Vigilante - Can, during any night, select a player to attempt to kill. He has two shots for the duration of the game. If he is roleblocked when he tries to use this ability, he does not use up a shot. If he is not roleblocked and the doctor saves his target, the shot is used up.
Question Asker - Submits any yes/no question at the beginning of day one and every subsequent night. If he is killed, this question, along with the answer, will be posted on the thread by the GM at the end of the phase he is killed in. Copscan immunity does not provide immunity to this ability, so if the Question Asker asks if the mole player is mafia, for example, the answer will be yes.
If the Question Asker is roleblocked, the question he submitted that phase will not be counted. If he dies, the question posted will be the last one submitted when he was not roleblocked.

Mafia

Mafia aligned players win when the serial killer has been eliminated, and the number of remaining mafia aligned players is greater than or equal to the number of town aligned players.

Standard Mafia - Each night, can talk with all other mafia members in a separate thread. During the night, they can decide on someone to kill and someone to roleblock. Any roleblocked player's night action will fail, and they will be notified that they have been roleblocked.
Mole - Same as Standard Mafia, but with a copscan immunity; if the cop scans him, he will show as innocent.

Independent:

Independent players win when all other players are eliminated.

Serial Killer - During the night, can select a player to kill.
The serial killer will also be given a choice at the start of day one between taking a copscan immunity or taking a nightkill immunity. The option he decides on will not be made public.

**************

If anyone has any questions about any of these, feel free to ask. Most of it is exactly the same as last game - the changes are the addition of the Mole and the Question Asker, and the fact that the Serial Killer's choice on taking the copscan immunity or nightkill immunity is not announced.

The only non-role change from the last game will be that if the lynch vote is a tie, there will be no lynch that phase.

The doctor still can only save himself one night in a row?

The question asker.. can you define his role a bit better? Can he ask "is so and so mafia" etc.?
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
07 May 14 UTC
Oops, missed that about the doctor. Yep, he can't save himself on two consecutive nights.

The Question Asker can ask any Yes/No question - So yep, he could ask something like 'Is Chaqa Mafia?' or even 'Are any of the following players: Chaqa, Guak, Krellin mafia?' and the question and answer would be posted in the thread if he died. Obviously it has to be something the GM is able to answer - not something like 'Will the mafia win this game?' - but apart from that and the fact that it has to be a yes/no question there are no limits on what he can ask.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
07 May 14 UTC
Does the question asker ask a question each night? Similarly, does the SK choose his immunity each night? I'm confused by your wording when all that is supposed to happen.
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
07 May 14 UTC
Question Asker asks a question at the beginning of the first day (before the game starts) and every night. If he dies, his most recent (non-roleblocked) question is the one that gets posted and answered.

The SK chooses his immunity at the start of day one (before the game starts), and that immunity stays for the whole game - he can't change it.
So the question asker's question is not answered until he dies? So each night he won't recieve the answer to his question from the previous night?
uclabb (589 D)

Are all of the QA's questions public (not actually answered unless he dies) or do we literally hear nothing from the question asker unless he dies?
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
07 May 14 UTC
It sounds like the QA gets his questions answered right when he asks privately, and he can share that information as he pleases, but if he dies, the last question/answer couple is publicly shared as part of the lynch or kill report.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
07 May 14 UTC
The question asker only submits a question each night. His question is not answered unless he dies.
pretty sure the QA "queues" a question so to speak

every night he can either keep the question in the queue or put a new one in its place

and when he's died the queue is triggered and the question is posted and answered
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
07 May 14 UTC
Ah, ok, I was wondering why it seemed like the QA was more powerful than the cop, this makes more sense.
uclabb (589 D)
07 May 14 UTC
My question still stands, though- is the queue public?
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
07 May 14 UTC
Sounds like it is not. Only the last question is made public upon the death of the QA, along with the answer.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
07 May 14 UTC
Oh it's only the last question, not all of them?
Seems so. Btw I will be on mobile for friday and most of Saturday. I should be around to add some longer, more useful commentary on Sunday, but don't take my silence as suspicious behavior.

To clarify Friday start right? When should we expect role PMs
Gtlblx (919 D)
08 May 14 UTC
"The thread will go up tomorrow [Thursday], and you'll all receive role PMs then, but the game won't start until Friday (this gives me a chance to see if there are going to be any no-shows before the game starts)."
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
08 May 14 UTC
I'm sorry, when will we get role PMs?
yebellz (729 D(G))
08 May 14 UTC
Wow, the QA sounds like a really cool role. Could be very effective to clear multiple people at the same time.
Yeah. But you have to be pretty sure on people for it to work. But if played right, it could win the game. Though you do have to make sure you die. Still fingers crossed.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
08 May 14 UTC
One last thing to confirm about the QA: He doesn't get to know the answer to any of his questions, but when he is killed, the last valid question and answer is revealed immediately following his death. Apart from that death note, he has no extra information-gathering skills or powers beyond a normal town. Apart from that, he can ask ANY yes/no question of "God" within the context of the game, and he get's a truthful answer that is shared.

Thanks.
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
08 May 14 UTC
That's it exactly Warden :)

Essentially, he's replacing his old question each night phase with a new one. When he dies, the most recent one is published along with the answer. None of the rest of them are made public.

The thread will go up this evening (British time) and you'll get role PMs at the same time, but the game won't start until Friday evening here.
