Opening in Gunboat as Russia
Russia has the largest array of openings compared to all other countries on the Classic map. So what exactly is the best opening when you can't communicate with your fellow... allies?

Mods Ignoring Complaints?
I filed multiple complaints against abusive forum content days ago, and the mods have not responded. Very disappointed -- I'm fairly certain I am being ignore/treated unfairly because they dislike me -- I expect better behavior from the mods here.

Anyone else being ignored by mods?

There are eight games on this page. When I click the arrow to go to the next page, it says 2 of -7, but there are no games on this page, or on any of the other pages. Shouldn't there be 66 joinable games?

@DO, without replacement means that when you draw a name it is discarded and not added back into the pool. Zultar was teasing you when he said "for you, that's what it means".

Leon is right --- low skilled players shouldn't get gifts to enter games they don't deserve to be in .... while players earning their points don't get to play in those games for quite awhile
TheMarauder (1270 D)
22 Dec 16 UTC

@Bladerunners
So to paraphrase: "Bah, humbug!"

It really doesn't matter. If they don't deserve to be in the games, they'll lose their points after one or two and be right back where they were. It's not a lifetime admission pass.
Octavious (2701 D)
22 Dec 16 UTC
Points are virtually meaningless. The best thing about this thread is that it helps to spread that message.
Octavious (2701 D)
22 Dec 16 UTC
Or the worst thing... I disagree with fun being educational out of principle
teacon7 (306 D)
22 Dec 16 UTC
Points don't mean much. I like the idea of an invitational game because it seems like an opportunity to learn - to get better at the game. I'd trade all my points (such as they are) to get tutored by top players on the website.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)

ssorenn (0 DX)
22 Dec 16 UTC
I do wish more high end players would play with everybody. Like everything else in life, practice makes you better. Too many here are worried about their ratings. The only way to create more competition is to allow others to learn. That's why I try to play with all.
goldfinger0303 (3157 DMod)
22 Dec 16 UTC
(+1)
Eh, I don't play with lower ranked people because, in my experience, they lack the awareness of the game to respond rationally to press.

Example would be:
"Mate, that's a really bad stab of me. You left yourself open and Russia is now going to solo unless you stop."

"No, that's not true at all. You're wrong"

*Proceeds with more dire warnings until Russia inevitably does solo*

"Look man, I told you it was coming. You should've listened to me"

"STFU, you're terrible at this game."

One gets tired of those exchanges.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)

ssorenn (0 DX)
22 Dec 16 UTC

I get your point goldy. I really do. But how are we to create a better pool of players if we don't give them a chance.
It drives me nuts when people don't respond to press or won't listen to reason. We still need to try though
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
22 Dec 16 UTC
ssorenn, you and reason are total strangers.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
22 Dec 16 UTC
(+1)
@goldfinger - That's a lazy rationale in my opinion. In your example I would argue that its your fault for losing because clearly Russia did a better job of communicating with the lower ranked player.

To me, if you are a really strong player you should have the wherewithal to manipulate lesser players to your advantage - not let other players use them to your disadvantage.
Octavious (2701 D)
22 Dec 16 UTC
(+1)
Nah, playing experienced players is far easier than playing noobs. It's tricky to argue that an alliance is in a player's best interest when they have no idea what their best interest is.
Octavious (2701 D)
22 Dec 16 UTC
(+1)
Noobs can be a lot of fun though :)
Octavious (2701 D)
22 Dec 16 UTC
(+1)
Experienced players also tend to pick up a lot of rules thumb for "good play" which can make them comically predictable. Noobs are more likely to play like Valis in one of his moods.
