Scottish MP on trial for lying
Here's a fascinating case. A Member of Parliament actually being taken to court for lying - and in his defence, admitting that he lied, but arguing that's just something politicians do, so he shouldn't be held to account for it.

Facts based discussion on climate change
Nobody denies that the earth changes. Mountains form with shifting plate tectonics. We had an Ice Age, and then the Ice Age went away. All without man on the earth. Yes, climate changes. Let’s have a facts based discussion on climate change.

kas "actually, my question was: "but you seem to know more about climate change than a vast majority of climate scientists. that must have a reason, right?"" Yes. The reason is I don't have a political agenda on climate change. I don't get grants from organizations that hype the man-made climate change myth. Follow the money. How much money did Algore make hyping global warming? Check his predictions against reality. He was completely wrong. Global warming morphed into climate change when the believers realized their BS wasn't matching up with reality.

^riiight. You don't have a political agenda, but those scientist do. What a crock of shit.

the ONLY reason to deny climate change is because you have a political agenda.

Yeah, follow the money. Most of that work was done under grants from the NSF and NASA who would both much rather be studying more fundamental science. Global warming morphed into climate change when a Republican oil industry lobbyist was concerned that people might save humanity by not buying his company's products and he invented the new term.

Reality is 100% clear if you were not so illiterate or lazy to read about it. Frankly, I agree you ought to be bludgeoned to death, because you are risking the lives of hundreds of millions of people for your own selfishness. Frankly, you people make Nazis look good.

@ BOG:

"Look at Mars. They have no greenhouse gases. "

Prove this using fact-based facts. Use your intellect and answer this question.

"Mars has no CO2 in the atmosphere."

Prove that there is no CO2 in the atmosphere of Mars.

I should point out that I *am* a scientist who has worked on climate change issues in the past and am now working on marine conservation issues. I will say that anyone who is paying close attention will be scared shitless, and I have very little patience anymore for this kind of stupid mental masturbation while many many people are dying and suffering and global ecosystems are being slaughtered. The fact that this is happening because a small greedy people are stupid and ignorant is incredibly frustrating.
BaldOldGuy (74 DX)

Og - “^riiight. You don't have a political agenda, but those scientist do. What a crock of shit.
the ONLY reason to deny climate change is because you have a political agenda.”

We’ll try this again. I will use small words so you can understand. I said from the very first post that climate change is real. We had an ice age. The ice age went away. That is called “climate change” That means the climate changes. Do you understand? I know that climate changes. It changes every day. I don’t deny the climate changes. On a short time frame it is called ‘weather’ Do you understand? The question is, how did man cause the last ice age? Or did the earth do it all by itself?

“Yeah, follow the money. Most of that work was done under grants from the NSF and NASA who would both much rather be studying more fundamental science. Global warming morphed into climate change when a Republican oil industry lobbyist was concerned that people might save humanity by not buying his company's products and he invented the new term.”
Who was that individual? Global warming morphed into climate change because the global warming nonsense didn’t reflect reality.

“Reality is 100% clear if you were not so illiterate or lazy to read about it. Frankly, I agree you ought to be bludgeoned to death, because you are risking the lives of hundreds of millions of people for your own selfishness. Frankly, you people make Nazis look good.”
Brilliant. Use your mighty intellect and show me how man caused the last ice age.

jamie - k. Mars does have a bit of an atmosphere. It is approx 96% CO2.

But what is your point? Mine was that the temperature on Mars varies directly with that of the earth. And there are no humans on Mars. That we know of.
kasimax (243 D)

actually, the ice age that you keep bringing up, boylee answered that question of yours a few pages ago, you simply refused to engage.

"Since BOG keeps referring the Ice Ages I'm here to tell him that while they were really massive and caused a great change in the Earth's climate, even they happened slowly, and much more gradually than what we see today. The last Ice Age peaked 22000 years ago, and ended 10000 years ago. For 12000 average temperature of the planet rose super slowly, at about 0.01 Celcius per year

What we see today is not even remotely comparable. The temperature rise each year is at least 0.8 Celcius."
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
@ BOG: "But what is your point?"

My point is you were harping on the use of facts but your own grasp of facts is poor - you repeatedly claimed there was no CO2 in the Martian atmosphere. At least you now admit that you were completely wrong about that.

"There are no humans on Mars."

This PROVES the dangers of having such high levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. Think of how many humans would be living on Mars if they hadn't all been killed by Martian Warming.

So you are saying 10 years ago the earth was 8
degrees cooler? And in 10 years it will be 8 degrees warmer?

I didn't respond due to the sheer ignorance of this statement.
kasimax (243 D)

i don't say anything. i just quoted boylee. yes, .8 degrees per year is absurd. but did you read the rest of his post?
BaldOldGuy (74 DX)
03 Nov 15 UTC
Og."Ooh, weather is climate in the short term. God the stupidity is strong with this one."

You are amazingly ignorant. Here is a question - If you record the weather every day for 10 years, will you be able to describe the climate for that region? Climate is the sum of the parts. Weather is the part. For example, Climate contains average rainfall. Measure the rainfall every day (weather) and you will know the average rainfall. You will know the climate.

Your ignorance is astounding.
BaldOldGuy (74 DX)
03 Nov 15 UTC
kas "i don't say anything. i just quoted boylee. yes, .8 degrees per year is absurd. but did you read the rest of his post?"

Yes I did. But MEGO when I see absurd statements made, like the .8 annual increase in average temperature. (MEGO = My Eyes Glaze Over)

I disregard all other numbers when I see bogus ones.
kasimax (243 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
okay, bog, let me try again:

do you think that we're currently in a period of warming (anthropogenic or not)?
do you believe this graph, showing a correlation between co2 and mean temperature to be accurate? https://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/400000yearslarge1.gif?w=720 (posted before, can't remember by whom)
if so, that highly suggests co2 concentration and temperature are related, right?
fulhamish (4134 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
@ kasimax, I spoke about this graph on the previous page of this thread. May I refer you to that?
boylee (2103 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
For heaven's sake, BOG. Please google "average global temperature increase" like I did before calling it bogus.
boylee (2103 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
You demand facts, and when presented with the hardest fact there is out there you seem to willfully redirect your attention.

And you call others biased after that?
BaldOldGuy (74 DX)
03 Nov 15 UTC
I actually believe we are heading to another Maunder Minimum.

I think CO2 follows temperature. Based on Antarctic ice core data, changes in CO2 follow changes in temperatures by about 600 to 1000 years. Yes they are related, but CO2 is not the cause.

Temperature is determined by sunspots.
BaldOldGuy (74 DX)
03 Nov 15 UTC
boy "For heaven's sake, BOG. Please google "average global temperature increase" like I did before calling it bogus."

You are amazingly ignorant. Was the earth 8 degrees C cooler a decade ago? Was the earth 16 degrees cooler in 1994?

Here is clue that will help you with your life - Not everything you google is accurate.
boylee (2103 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
Well this is much nicer than your previous 10.000 comments. I disagree with it of course but we're heading towards the right direction.

So how is temperature connected to sunspots? Do you think we could observe a change of behavior in them? If so why do you think this is not the reigning idea?

I mean even if man-made global warming is a religion there has to be a reason why it's so widespread, right?
boylee (2103 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
well not everything maybe, but this is something climatologists measure pretty well I think.
BaldOldGuy (74 DX)
03 Nov 15 UTC
boy "So how is temperature connected to sunspots? Do you think we could observe a change of behavior in them? If so why do you think this is not the reigning idea?"

really, do a little research on sunspots. All energy on the earth comes from the Sun. Now, and in the past. Well, to be accurate, stray comets do add some energy.

The reason it is not the reigning idea is that you cannot tax the sun. But you can tax carbon usage if you can convince idiots that carbon causes global warming. Or causes climate change when global warming is proved bogus.

Google the Maunder Minimum.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
(+1)
@ boylee: Googling "average global temperature increase" says that the temperature has increased by 0.8 degrees since 1880, in *total* not by that amount each year.
boylee (2103 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
I guess this is the part where I hang myself. Sorry. All statements regarding that is retracted. This is why you avoid serious discussions while at work :D Thanks for the correction.

Back on track. Yes, energy comes from the sun. But. It is the atmosphere that actually absorbs energy. Consider the moon. It is cold af because all energy is reflected instead of absorbed.

I do not believe scientists have any incentive to try to convince people that CO2 is harmful because they're not the ones collecting tax revenue. As for politicians, they might have one, but if you want to steal taxes they can do it without extra taxes on CO2.

I really think this is headed towards conspiracy theory territory. I'll educate myself on the Maunder Maximum, but you sir, please do some research on the matter as well.
BaldOldGuy (74 DX)
03 Nov 15 UTC
boy - It is the Maunder Minimum, not Maximun
Octavious (2701 D)
03 Nov 15 UTC
@ boylee

You are really not having a good day.

"Consider the moon. It is cold af because all energy is reflected instead of absorbed"

The moon you can see ain't cold. That big white shiny thing you see at night has a considerably higher temperature that what you are currently experiencing here on Earth. It is so hot that without serious protection you would die pretty damn fast.

Biggest cause for concern I have in year 2 of this so called "system" is that for the first 4 weeks of these people sitting down to rank everyone they come up with even worse logic than the coaches and AP polls.
