You-Create-It: The Greatest Band EVER!
Simple enough: 1. Take any members or solo artists and bring them together to form what YOU think would make the best band ever 2. Band size of 5, with a 1 bass, 1 drummer, at least 2 guitarists, and then the 5th slot can be for whatever, another guitarist, a piano player, lead singer, etc., and at least 3 out of the 5 must be able to sing 3. Give your band a name 4. Give the title of at 5 songs that band "released," at least 1 with lyrics, 6 Rock on! :)

Anyone going to this, it's in Seattle? One game Friday night, two games on Saturday, would be good practice for the meeting in Boston this June!

bug
Not a big deal, but I'm in a gunboat game that claims to have an unread message, which I can't access. So basically it's always showing up at the top of my home screen despite the fact that I've entered moves, and obviously there is no message, cause it's a gunboat.

19 people have signed up, anyone else? Based on those 19 people's preferences, it looks like our US FtoF will be in the Boston area in mid-June from Fri nite to Sunday. Thanks to Abgemacht, Wizard, Madmarx, and Zombie for volunteering to help. Lets give this thread one more week for additional people to express their preferences. Then I will start firming up dates, venues, and fees.

Regarding fees, I would like to collect some sort of deposit/registration fee, because that tends to make people seriously committed, with marking their calendars, arranging transport, etc. I am happy to refund all or most of it, when people actually show up at the real tourney, depending on how much our expenses turn out to be. I am thinking something like $25-$35 for a registration deposit. The only way I know to collect it is thru each person sending me a check via snail mail :( since I am not set up with a special bank account, credit card acceptance as a vendor, etc. Does anyone know how to do this an easier way? Is there a way I can do it thru paypal maybe?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Wait, collect $500 from people? Sign me up for that job!
Crazyter (1335 D(G))

OK Ab-you got it. Figure out how to collect 19*35 and then turn over all the dough to me :). Oh yeah and thanks again for volunteering.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Nov 10 UTC
What I would suggest is the following:

Wait a little longer to see what people think. Then we can start firming up plans. Once we have a tentative plan in place, we can determine if a fee is necessary and how much.

@MM - Ill lose the Winter weight by then and by around the 245 pound mark. Im not sure ill get any shorter though :)

@Crazy - I think we should wait on the monies, especially if it is just to confirm places and maybe PayPal would be a good way to do it. Especially if an audit trail/ theft occurs en route to you. Im in though and ill see you next year all.

Brilliant, ab!

BZD, within four hours I may be pushing 230-235, maybe we should start Friday night off with a pre-game wrestling match to demonstrate what we'll do to anyone getting out of line?

Would be nice to get three boards in Boston, at least for Saturday and Sunday. Crazyter, do you know any locals that could be on standby, like maybe your boy?

If I go (which I currently am planning on) my board will accompany me!

As for collecting fees, whether it's Ab or Crazy, paypal will be the easiest way other than snail mail checks.

Yeah I'm happy to bring a board, I have the newest version with the cardboard pieces... so... meh. But I'll still bring it just in case eh
How about Louisville Kentucky? That seems pretty central to the Eastern USA crowd.

I can bring a board if needed, with the nice metal pieces :) But I'd rather not schlep it across the country if there are enough others nearby.
diplomat554 (2104 D)
26 Nov 10 UTC
Boston is right near me, so that's not a problem June 10+, but having to schedule a vacation to Kentucky would definitely complicate things.
Louisville is a good two day trip for me, but I can do it in the summer, Mid June-ish or July.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
26 Nov 10 UTC
Boston sounds like a lot more fun than the middle of the country.... not to hate on anyone who lives there but I'd to see some cool things while I'm wherever we are too... I'm already making a trip to Ohio this Christmas I expect I'll have had my fill of the midwest :P
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Nov 10 UTC
Hey Louisville is the home of The Kentucky Derby and, having lived in Ohio and Kentucky, they are not at all alike.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Nov 10 UTC
And Bowling Green is nearby with the greatest art museum in the world. Let's face it, the Corvette is simply art on wheels and BG is home of the National Corvette Museum as well as the Corvette factory.
Yeah I was thinking Churchill Downs, Six Flags Great America, The area isn't without its attractions. Some great caves to the south.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Nov 10 UTC
Yep, Mammoth Caves. Honestly, Ohio is boring unless you are in Cinci, Columbus, or Cleveland. But Kentucky has beauty and attractions all over. And honestly, Kentucky is a southern state, not a midwestern one.

3 players ally in mediterrenean gunboat
Are there any rules preventing 3 players allying in a 5player gunboat?
Its kind of silly, cause no chance to win.

They never attacked each other and killed me and another player, in the end it was 24 supply centers (3 players) against my 8, after the other guy left.

Intro
Not sure how appropriate this is, but thought I'd introduce myself. I'm new to site and thought I'd drop by. I have played Dip for many years now, the last few online, and came across this site pretty much by accident to be honest. Thought I'd give it a try. Jumped into a couple of games (hopefully) and will play those out whatever else happens. Nothing worse than a game unbalanced by NMRs.

Rich + Tax Cuts= More Jobs For Average Americans...What's The WORK On That Equation?
So, if I understand correctly, the Bush tax cuts will be extended now, with the GOP holding to the trickle-down theory from Reaganomics and saying tax cuts from the rich will lead to jobs for the average and poorer Americans. Now, numbers and I? We do NOT get along. Math and I? We've been feuding since Day 1 of preschool. So BEFORE I say this is just the rich getting richer--anyone on good terms with Mr. Math care to explain? Maybe I just calculated Rich+Tax Cuts=Richer Rich incorrectly?

Replacement player needed
I'm going on vacation and I'll need someone to take over my games (there are four of them). I tried to get all my games finished before I had to go, but some took longer than expected. The fewest units I have in any of the games is 6 (the most is 12). Message me if you're interested and I'll give you more info including my general strategy and alliances in each game.

How to unpause a anonymous game when 1 didn't vote for unpause?
Since the last server problems our game gameID=42532 is paused. 6 vote for unpause and 1 didn't. We can't continue because 1 didn't vote and stuck on "pause" mode.
Is there any solution like auto-delete after some weeks or how is this handled?

Loading Order...
Whenever I open a game, the site loads 'fully' but it stops short of loading the actual orders for the game. I can see the map and send messages, but I can't enter any orders. I have been able to keep up with games by using my iPhone to enter orders while looking at the map on my computer, but I assumed it would fix itself after a day or two. Any ideas? I am also unable to scroll through past maps. I am using Safari, and haven't had any trouble until three days ago.

"What Do You Read, My Lord?" "Words, Words, Words--And Plautus, He's FABOO!"
After that REALLY EXCELLENT discussion on "What Is Art?" that we had (thanks to all that participated, by the way, even though I disagreed with many points raised I DO respect your opinions) I got to thinking about all the books *I* love, MY art...and we have so many debates tracing back to what we've read, WHO we've read...I thought I'd pose the question--Favorite Novelist? Favorite Poet? Favorite Playwright? Favorite Philosopher? And then a Fifth...so, WebDip--what do you read?
