Damn, 5 solos so far? The World Gunboat Tournament only had 1 out of 17.

either this map is more easy to solo on - or we're bad at stopping them.

I think that build on any SC has a lot to do with it. Once you have momentum going, it is harder to stop. You can build units closer to the front lines and keep on attacking.

Also, with 86 SCs on World, it is more easy to find stalemate lines which are unbreakable. 3-4 people could each control 20-30 SCs which can fully be defended. For example, it is possible to lock down Africa with 16 units.

Build anywhere is a big part of it, but I think lack of familiarity with the stalemate lines in Modern is also a factor. Plus there have been a few games where it only took one player to destabilize the board enough for someone to take advantage. For example in Game 4 I was in second or third (maybe even 4th) when Poland attacked Ukraine's back and that created an opening which let me roll through into the north and get in position to solo as Egypt. Being able to build a fleet on the Northern coast of Iran to get into the Caspian Sea also was a key factor for me in that one.

Some fun facts from this series. Spain has been in every draw but no solos. Egypt the best power so far with a solo and 3 draws (also leading the last game). Britain has been the worst, no solo, no draws (though Britain is currently in 2nd in the outstanding game so may yet get on the board). The 5 solos have been by 5 different powers (but only 3 players). Ukraine and Italy the worst besides Britain, managing just 1 draw each. France not in any draws but did manage a solo.
